Chapter Twenty-Four – Dramatic

Jade realized that the bitch before her zoned out. She smacked Laurel’s head, snapping her from her thoughts. "Didn’t you ask about this?! Now you make me seem like an idiot rambling here?"

Laurel shoved her hand aside. "Aren’t you an idiot? You just came here to ramble, didn’t you?"

She regretted her words when Jade’s claws snapped out. Her eyes glared down at her like she was trash. "You really need a good lesson, don’t you?"

"Shit." Laurel slowly backed away. Her mouth always placed her in difficult situations, even if they always said what she truly meant.

"And I shall be the one to teach her that lesson, if you don’t mind." it was Sorren, at the door, and he had a whip.

Laurel had never felt more grateful seeing him but she begun having mixed thoughts on seeing the whip.

Jade turned and sighed. "I’d have done it but it’s fine. You are the one in charge of her?"

"If there’s a problem, do meet me first before punishing her." Sorren replied, walking into the prison.

That wasn’t an answer to her question. Jade exhaled. Was he really being protective over a prisoner? There was no reason to. She shook her head.

As long as it was Sorren acting weird and not her fiancé, then it wasn’t much of a problem. If Stefan wanted the girl dead after he’s sick of her, Sorren would surely not object.

"I’d leave you to it then." Jade faked a smile and walked out of the prison.

Those brothers definitely confused her but she’d just manage and try to understand since she was stuck with them for the rest of her life.

When Sorren was sure Jade was out of earshot, he sighed. "It’s like the devil keeps bringing her here."

Laurel raised a brow, confused at his words but he said nothing to her, instead stretching his whip. Was he really going to use it on her?

He strolled past her to the rack were her dirty clothes hung. He shifted the trashcan towards him and sighed again. Taking out a small cloth, he covered his nose.

Laurel watched him curiously. What was he trying to do?

With the whip, he flogged down the dirty clothes on the rack into the trashcan, moving the can as he flogged each cloth. There was no expression on Laurel’s face.

That was what he was trying to do with a whip? Couldn’t he just ask her to help him gather the clothes. And was he throwing them away?

Sigma usually asked a maid to rewash them. Did he plan to replace it or that was her problem?

She really wanted to start a conversation with him but for some reason lost the nerve to, she could only watched in silence at him dramatically flogging her clothes down.

Something sort of told her not to broke his concentration.

He finished, tied the whip to the trashcan and began dragging it away, with a relieved expression.

"So boring." Laurel murmured as he walked away. He and Stefan were definitely brothers if they always waited for others to speak first before starting a conversation.

"Excuse me?"

Laurel snapped her head to him. He heard her? His eyebrows furrowed angrily so he certainly heard her.

"Did I forget to thank you for clearing my laundry? Oh, do forgive my bad manners. Thank you and do well to return them." She smiled broadly.

His hands went to his waist. "Thou must think Lycans are devoid of sarcasm and insensitive to it?"

"Maybe. I have few expectations of Lycans." She replied.

He dropped the trash can. "Thy abode smells like a seven day old corpse has lived with you for six weeks. To have a conversation, I have to be sure my life isn’t at stake."

That was awfully specific and an exaggeration. Had she died yet while staying there and what did he mean by her abode? She was in a damn prison. Was he a clean freak?

"So you want to have a conversation with me?" Laurel ignored every other statement and asked.

"Yes, on how to schedule your torture and how long your body lasts before it breaks under pressure but that’d be for later because I can’t survive here." he replied.

How long she lasts before her body breaks? "So I’m still getting tortured despite being your brother’s mate?"

"Ask him when you see him. You’re his mate not mine." Sorren bent down to re-tie the whip to the trashcan.

Laurel fell quiet.

"I told you not to expect special treatment from these Lycans." Elma sighed. "Our life is their own."

So because she was his mate, her life was his to wield? Couldn’t that go both ways? Where she controlled his own fate as well? Or was that too much to ask?

There was a knock on the prison door and the former guard to Laurel’s old prison peeked in. He froze on seeing Sorren and attempted going back.

"What are you doing here? She’s no longer your prisoner and you are aware of it." Sorren reprimanded.

Laurel wondered how he knew the exact person at the door when he was completely backing him the guard.

"I-I came to just... to see Sigma but it seems he’s not here so I’d just go back now." The guard said.

Even Laurel knew it was a lie. Why was he lying? She sighted the lunchbox in his hands and rushed to retrieve it.

A gift from Sorren? She turned to him but he didn’t look at her. The guard gave the box to her and sped off before Sorren would ask him the true reason for his visit.

Laurel quietly went back to her bed, opening the lunchbox. Should she thank him for the lunchboxes now or just wait till he spoke of it?

Sorren rose again, lifting the trashcan with the whip. He noticed the lunchbox Laurel opened but frowned. So she got special meals like that? Was it from his brother?

He decided to ignore it, since the maiden really needed it with how skinny she looked.

There was a displeased expression on Laurel’s face as the lunchbox had just soup, no rice or other things. She gulped it down quickly. "That was uneventful."

She watched Sorren trying to pass the door but the whip kept on getting held by something. She looked back at the empty lunchbox. Why was it only soup he delivered? And he had even acted like he didn’t see it?

"Excuse me...." She trailed off as she clutched her stomach.

Sorren looked back into the prison as she called his attention. His eyes widened. "Blood?"

Laurel spat out clots of blood and her stomach felt like it was turning over. She crouched on the ground. "What... did you give me?"

What did he give her? Sorren stared at her, temporarily paralyzed from shock. "Blood...? She’s... bleeding?"
