Chapter Two Hundred-Forty-Six – The Ugly Medicine

Bebe chuckled briefly. "And you’d know?"

Zeldris left his hand on her head. "Well, my mom used to tell me of her older sister who was supposed to be an Alpha, but saw it as a hassle and dropped it."

His expression changed as he remembered.

Bebe looked away, ignoring his hand on her head. "She didn’t have anything to lose."

"She did. She lost the pack. The people were conquered. Her younger sister, my mother, was given to a witch as a student but is now dead. My aunt is dead too and her daughter is still missing. So yeah, she lost a lot."

Bebe raised a brow. Then why did the lady even leave?

"My point is," Zeldris finally dropped his hand from her head. "At least, you’re trying to protect them. Just keep trying and you would someday. Many don’t try."

That was oddly encouraging. "Thanks." Bebe shrugged. "I guess." Zeldris frowned. The last part was uncalled for.

He nodded proudly and headed to the door. "Though, I think the Princess calls you to tell you to join the warriors raiding. She wants you to tell the pack to surrender."

Bebe ran out with him. Prince Sorren had deflated that suggestion when she made it. "The Prince might not want to. How will the Princess convince them?"

Zeldris was sure the Princess had thought that all out before she even stood up. She was that amazing.

And didn’t that Sorren owe them a favor for providing information? He should stop being conceited.

They passed by Jessika who was rushing out with a tray having one covered plate on it. She danced a little as she walked out with the tray.

She was tired from cooking all the time, so tried to keep her body active, by keep being active. She still had to finish making dinner.

The life of a cook wasn’t easy but she preferred making food for her friends and the Princess, than for Lycans that could snap her in two.

"A special dish for the Princess?" Zeldris asked.

She paused. "A medicine for Prince Sorren, courtesy of Sir Darren." Jessika hurried out of the place.

Zeldris frowned. That Prince Sorren again? "As you feed him, make sure he chokes. Okay?"

Jessika chuckled, hastening up, while still wriggling her body to unknown music. "As if I’d get to feed him."

She paused to bow at the warriors in front of the palace. "A medicinal—" they signaled for her to enter. She smiled and strolled in. She paused again when she got in.

Should she be here, or at Prince Sorren’s quarters? But that had been taken over so the Prince wouldn’t be there. Then should she go to the Alpha’s study?

"What do you want, Jessika?"

She tensed up before facing him. "Beta Cade, I have a..." she looked at the tray, "a medicine from Sir Darren. I had told him about the magic related injury and—"

"You didn’t have to. Sorren is awake now." Cade opened the cover and saw the ugly looking mixture. His face twisted. Would Sorren want to drink it?

Jessika looked down, seeing his expression. There was no satisfying these lycans. Did he know how expensive the medicine he twisted his face at would be?

"My medicinal tea didn’t work so I asked Sir Darren. This medicine is from Damancas and is actually what’s used to handle cases like this." She briefly narrated.

If he didn’t still think it was good enough, she planned to return with it and keep it for future purposes. Sometimes these lycans weren’t worth the effort.

There was no reply from the Beta, so she stepped back then looked at his facial expression. He looked annoyed.

She gulped down nothing. By any chance, was it because she mentioned meeting Sir Darren? He had the same reaction when he had met Sir Darren with her.

Or did he look like that because of the medicine?

"What exactly is your relationship with him?"

She wanted to ask ’who?’ but she knew he knew she knew who he was talking about. But did he need to be so nosey? She bowed and replied politely.

"That’s a slightly personal question, Beta..." she trailed off when she noticed his fists clench.

She valued her life more, so answered. "... but I used to work at Silent River under the former Alpha’s orders so I had served him few times. It’s a formal friendship."

Cade clicked his tongue. Was there anything like a formal friendship? He took the tray from her. "Go back then, I’d send it to him. You look tired."

Her eyes widened. He could tell? She didn’t even sigh or show any sign. Was it on her face? She unconsciously smiled, nodding. "Thank you."

Cade smiled back. "Go on." He watched her walk back to the entrance. On turning towards the Alpha’s study, he found his sister, Cara, standing with folded arms.

"Why are you smiling at stupid werewolfesses?"

Cade’s smile left his face. "What are you doing here?"

Lady Cara flung her hair back. "Aren’t I the only lady around to take care of Prince Sorren? Give me the tray."

Her brother briskly walked past her, shifting the tray from her reach. Such an important medicine should be dealt with carefully.

"You’d worsen his condition. Also, Sorren is one body organ from being a lady. He can handle himself."

Cara eye rolled, but followed him. She had to be useful somehow and prove to that Prince that she wasn’t a dead weight. She forced her entry into the Alpha’s study.

Cade sighed on seeing her behind him. She didn’t even understand anything. He’d prefer her being away from Sorren, because of what she did to Sigma.

With Sigma still injured, Sorren could remember her sins and punish her personally. But his sister was dense.

"Jessika brought this. She says she told Sir Darren about it and he brought a medicine from Damancas." Cade dropped the tray close to the Alpha.

His eyes went to Sorren laid on a bed, that was recently brought to the study because the Alpha needed to work while keeping an eye on him. And Sorren didn’t like laying on the ground.

Sorren opened his eyes. "Medicine from Damancas?"

As scary as that sounded, Cade nodded. It was brought by Jessika so it wouldn’t be harmful at all.

Sorren looked behind him to see Cara. He sat up. "Cara, come and taste it first. It could be dangerous."

Stefan frowned and Cade could only sigh. He knew Sorren would use all ways possible to bully her.

Cara looked skeptical, but didn’t back away. "Fine." She opened the cover and both she and Sorren grimaced. Was that ugly thing really edible? She began to hesitate.
