Chapter 244: Believe In Me
Chapter Two Hundred-Forty-Four – Believe In Me
The fiery barrier kept on burning between them.
Asher watched it intently in fascination. When Slime had narrated the barrier the little girl had striked him with, he mentioned how he couldn’t see it.
Nene had agreed as it was the same case for the bred lycan that defeated the Fang leader.
So now, Asher guessed that the only reason he could see this barrier was because of the fire mixed with it. Burning brilliantly and warning them to stay back.
"So your trump card was a defensive magic!" Asher yelled out to Thales, behind the fiery barrier. "Not as impressive as I thought!"
"I don’t care to impress you, King Asher."
Asher nodded. Of course, he hated him.
With the knowledge he had magic, Asher guessed he might be a bred lycan of Lunaria. It’d be easy for a bred lycan to sneak in here, a kingdom of Lycans.
But how could such an identity be living in the Beta’s district without the Beta realizing. He was too accommodating for his own good.
"This means you are a foreigner in this place. A spy? I have even more reasons to make sure I kill you." Asher’s claws left their place.
Fire and barrier magic? He didn’t know a thing about it, but he’d manage, like always. What he knew about magic was that, it had weak and strong output.
Thales wouldn’t send out a strong output as they’re in a warehouse. He’d not want to burn his master’s goods, or send the building falling, and kill himself inside.
"King Asher, apart from to cover your crimes, is there any other reason you’d want to attempt killing me?" Thales asked.
As he did the fire quenched, but Asher knew not to move carelessly, the barrier might still be active.
"I wish to kill you. I didn’t like your tone." Asher shrugged.
Thales had a bored look. "In that case, there’s no need for me to remain here. I have finished my job with Lunaria and have told you who your enemies are. Kindly leave."
Asher paused, narrowing his eyes at him.
"I just said, I don’t like your tone—"
"I am a worker directly under Lady Zara," Thales made a small bow, "and we were taught not to give respect to spoiled brats, King Asher. In that case..."
Suddenly, Thales lifted himself from the ground, floating midair. Asher noticed the air temperature got hotter. He briskly walked to Nero, and pulled a dagger from his waist.
As the air around grew more intense, small boxes were pulled towards Thales, Asher worked on tying a small ribbon to the dagger he took.
"A small gift for you."
Thales raised his bowed head, but panic flashed through his eyes as the dagger stuck on his forehead. He exhaled, the dagger hadn’t gone too deep.
The next instant, he was gone.
Asher shrugged. "He didn’t even say thank you."
Nero sighed in relief that it was all over. It was his first time seeing magic and his body shook on such near death experience.
They both returned to Snow Top Mountain and Nero couldn’t help but notice the King being in a good mood.
What about what they experienced will keep him in a good mood? But he didn’t dare ask. The King had always been odd, he didn’t plan to start understanding him now.
"Where have you two been?"
Asher ran to Nene as he heard her. "Hey, Nene. Guess..." he spun around her. "...what?"
The confused lady glanced at her brother for help. Nero shook his head. What spectacular thing had happened?
"You found another worthy experiment?" Nene said the first thing at the top of her head. Surprisingly, the King turned red-cheeked, turning to her in surprise.
"Wait, really?"
"Nero and I found a bred lycan inside High Moon and best is that, he’s on a death roll already so I can work on him."
Nero’s body ran cold. Wasn’t a bred lycan... still a Lycan? Wasn’t it only werewolves the King did his experiments on? But he kept his thoughts to himself, looking at Nene.
Nene didn’t even get half of what he said so nodded absentmindedly. As long as he was happy and didn’t cause trouble for her. "Have fun with your experiments."
Asher strolled towards his lab, swinging his hands gleefully. "I will. I will." The door slammed as he entered his main lab. "I will definitely enjoy my experiments."
He slid towards a box and peeked inside. That drug hadn’t reacted to the cold yet. He closed it.
He looked around his lab at the different colored wonders he had made to be tested on werewolves. They should actually be honored to have his hardwork in their bodies.
He quickly took out some unfinished work and started working on it. There was a knock on the lab door after two hours. "If you aren’t here with snacks, please go back."
He felt the person leave the door, running off. He scoffed. Sam took everything seriously.
Minutes later, he heard her knock again. "Come in."
At least, he had news, bad news, to tell her. He spun his seat around to face her, her hands were fiddling with each other.
"Um... there are no snacks... Sir Nero told me... you left."
"They were taken by a faction of Lunaria that performed experimentation on lycans. You can easily guess that I can’t do anything about it, unless start a war."
Sam’s eyes grew distant, as her eyes became moist and her breathes came out heavily. "Y-You can’t do anything... at all? But war?" she fell on her knees. "M... My brothers."
Asher turned back to the table where he worked.
"Unfortunate, isn’t it? Lunaria promised not to experiment on lycans ever again, but for unknown reason, they’ve resumed the cursed act." The King sighed.
Sam slapped the ground repeatedly. "Why! Why! Why... were these werewolves taking everything from me!"
Asher’s eyes sparkled. Did she just sat werewolves? He spun his chair to her with a devious smile. He never mentioned werewolf, but Lunaria. Was she growing a hatred for werewolves by herself? He’d help her then.
"Indeed, werewolves are the major problem, aren’t they? But what can we Lycans do, they’re in majority."
Sam glared at the ground, her eyes burning with hatred. She hated oppression. She hated being weak.
She hated losing. "W-We have to do something... or else, Lycans might die out... or something."
Asher nodded to her words of wisdom. "We will do something. We will do something. Believe in me."
