Chapter 243: The Audacity

Chapter Two Hundred-Forty-Three – The Audacity.

Asher took a step back, releasing his clenched fists. Did the brat think he’d drop the case if he mentioned Zara?

That was a stupid dream that he should wake up from.

"I should let Zara know of your actions. Her lowly dog dared to put her in a vulnerable position."

Thales frowned. "Another thing I hate about you, you think Lady Zara is like you who treat your workers as dog."

The King chuckled. "They are my workers, I treat them as I deem fit. And if Zara is so good to you, how dare you soil your name with your crimes!"

Thales smiled, seeing the King getting worked up. He left where he sat, holding the candle holder in his both hands.

Asher could see his face clearly, brown haired idiot with mischievous blue eyes. He didn’t even look like he was from around, maybe a brat from a neighboring pack.

"You are right, King Asher." Thales assumed a sullen expression. "I shouldn’t involve Lady Zara in my crimes."

Nero stood in a defensive position as he suspected that the lycan wanted to attack. Asher became alert but he didn’t change position.

Then, the growing blood lust they could sense from the young man slowly quenched, he sighed.

"I could take this the long route; attack you so you’d hurt me, and then the Beta hears of it, and you reveal to him what’s going on, and the King’s adventures in the night... but I’m so tired of such long journeys."

Asher’s guard tightened, this young man had it planned out. Indeed, all the workers of the Beta, in fact everyone at the Beta’s district, were accounted for.

As a worker under the Beta’s daughter, if Asher took him to Snow Top Mountain to interrogate, the Beta will catch news of it and ask his worker’s crime.

The information about the kidnapped lycans, as well as his adventures at night, the bred lycans with witch magic, perhaps even Zeno, will be brought to light.

Asher wasn’t ready for any of that to happen yet.

Thales was very informed if he knew all those, while still having the upper hand at knowing the location of the kidnapped lycans.

Asher decided to tread carefully. "So will you tell me and let it be done with? Or you’d rather I kill you and fake a horrible story to tell your Beta?"

That was another option. Asher smirked.

Thales didn’t look bothered. "You think you can kill me so easily? I truly dislike that overconfidence of yours."

Asher closed his eyes.

Even if since he walked into the warehouse, and realized he couldn’t catch the young man’s scent or determine his rank, he knew he could beat him.

After all, he looked like he could be easily beaten.

Yet, he might have a trump card if could dare speak so brazenly to the King of Lycans. He had audacity.

"Are you going to tell me? Nero." Asher gestured for Nero to get ready to strike. Nero was to be the sacrificial lamb of course, in case this Thales had a trump card.

Surely, it wouldn’t be anything too fatal, they were in a warehouse after all.

"I will tell you. Nero save yourself death by my hands." Thales kept a leg on the seat he left. "Lunaria asked."

Asher’s expression turned sour. Lunaria again? Didn’t Zeno say they had nothing to do with it? "This shouldn’t be another lie from you, Thales—"

"You asked so desperately for answers from me and now I give you one, you doubt it? Why can’t it be Lunaria?"

This was resembling his earlier declaration of Zara being the one who sent him, and Asher didn’t appreciate it. Should he just bundle the young man and take him back?

He can deal with the Beta later.

"Seriously, Lunaria has many factions. What faction X is doing, faction Y might have no idea. It’s hard to keep up with them." Thales sighed. "I can’t tell you which faction."

So that’s what happened? Asher folded his arms. The faction Zeno might know about might be innocent.

"And why do they need them? Surely you know."

"Probably, or probably not. I’m only sent to deliver them and that’s were my crimes stopped. Why are you interested in this? You don’t care, do you?"

Why wouldn’t he? Asher clicked his tongue. How could the bastard stand in his face and say he wouldn’t care that lycans are being kidnapped in his country by Lunaria!

"Let me guess, you needed more specimens so you checked the poor lycans living in your kingdom but found out someone beat you to them?" Thales smiled.

Neo reacted, striking his hand on the wall. "You will not insult the King like that! His work has nothing to do with Lycans! And is that what Lunaria is doing?"

Didn’t they agree to end such acts?

"Can you judge them if they start again?" Thales asked. "Your King is experimenting on werewolves, isn’t he?"

Nero couldn’t reply. Did Lunaria hear that and decided to start their experimentation again? That’d be bad.

This meant, the kidnapping was the King’s fault. If Lunaria’s experimentation becomes rampant, it’d lead to exposing the King.

"Thales," Asher stepped forward, "if this is really what’s going on, then it seemed I’ve gotten into a bad spot."

Thales nodded innocently. "Indeed, you have."

"And I can’t keep you alive too, because you’re obviously the one leaking information to Lunaria." Asher added.

Nero brought out his weapons from his side.

Indeed, they had to silence this one first, then think of how to deal with Lunaria. If it’d mean the King stopping his experiments, Nero hoped he’d do so.

To Nero, those experiments were just a way for the King to pass time, but being King was already time consuming.

Thales stared at the two, readying to attack him.

"I told you, Nero. Don’t dare me or you’d die by my hands. King Asher, you can try your luck while I’m in the mood."

Nero gritted his teeth. How dare he mock him repeatedly?

"Nero, strike." Asher ordered.

Nero nodded, lunging forward immediately.

Thales exhaled, as he did, the fire in the candle holder swirled out of the place, dancing in the air.

In one movement, the young man swung his hand over the space between he and Nero and a fiery barrier blasted between them.

Nero jumped back on time.

Thales yawned. "If I wanted it to hit you, it will. Thank me."

Asher smiled. "Magic, huh?" So that was his trump card?
