Chapter 242: I’m Not Fond Of You
Chapter Two Hundred-Forty-Two – I’m not fond of you.
(High Moon Kingdom)
Nero stood at the door, waiting for the King to finish dressing up. He watched the King stroll out with a dead brown attire.
The lycan mentally face palmed, his Nene was right, the clothes the King asked her to buy, and liked, were the worst that were ever made.
It was probably due to the combination the King wore them with but Nero didn’t have much hope on them alone.
Asher spun around as he noticed Nero’s eyes on him. "You like it? It’s indeed fine work."
Nero could only smile.
Asher exhaled. "Okay, let’s go."
Nero became serious and nodded. He jumped down the window quickly, and landed, his eyes went up to see if the King followed but Asher strolled past him.
The lycan smiled, mentally reminding himself that the King was much more agile than him, and only lacked in experience of the outside world.
"You are sure this place we’re going to is the location of the culprit stealing the lycans. Sam is getting impatient with me." Asher adjusted the jewelry on his wrist.
Nero noticed the ornament. Every time, the King carried an expensive item with him that heavily contrasted the poor thief image he was creating.
"I’m quite sure. The young man acted suspiciously and he snooped around the places the victims got missing at." Nero explained. "We can get more if we speak to him."
Asher nodded. Whether or not it was Sam’s problem, finding the one responsible for kidnaping young male lycans in his kingdom was his responsibility as King.
Finding the victims alive wasn’t very important, only finding the one responsible was.
If he finds the ones responsible and torture them, the whereabouts of the victims could be revealed.
If they couldn’t get information, then at least, the kidnappings would stop and the former victims will be sacrifices that had been made.
Nero led the way, the both of them ran in the dead of the night, through trees and bushes to get to the other end of the Kingdom.
The environment began to change as they moved. Asher slowed down as he remembered the buildings and the particular breed of trees.
"It didn’t change that much." He looked ahead. Why were they going towards the Beta’s district?
Asher remembered visiting the place as a child with his mother, but it had become brighter. It was a weird change but it still seeped with nostalgia for him.
"Over there!" Nero landed on a roof top and tumbled down. Asher did the same and landed smoothly. They were in front of a large warehouse.
The King nodded, this building would have enough room to hide kidnapped Lycans and not even their screaming would be heard.
"Why was such a person living within the Beta’s district?" Asher walked into the warehouse.
Nero followed behind him. "This man works under Delta Zara, though I suspect she has nothing to do with this."
Asher froze. Zara? He frowned. Since when was she dumb enough to have a rat right under her nose and not sniff it? "I’d do my best to put her in trouble with this."
A smirk came to his lips and he threw the front door of the warehouse open. It was dimly lit, then Asher noticed a young bulky man lighting the candles around the warehouse. He didn’t seem alarmed at their presence. "That’s him." Nero knitted his brows. "He seems really good at running and hiding though, so we have to be—"
"Don’t insult me." The young man snapped suddenly, turning to the two. "Running and hiding would be while I’m not at home. Now, I’m at home, I am not going anywhere."
Asher fondled the jewelry in his hands. "That will be convenient for us. Will you be hosting us too?"
The young man lit the last candle, the warehouse wasn’t very bright but faces could be seen.
The young man huffed. "You will have to forgive me, King Asher, but I am not fond of you so have no intentions to host you."
Nero stepped back, stunned that he could see beyond the King’s disguise. "You? Who are you—"
"I think it’d be best if you let the King ask the questions, Nero." The young man made himself comfortable on a seat. "I am Thales Talisman, by the way."
Asher found an empty gallon and sat on it, keeping his legs wide. "You are an interesting man, Thales."
Nero stood besides the King, glaring at the strange man. He could see through his own disguise too? Him, an assassin that served the King?
"Again, I am not fond of you so will not be accepting any compliments. I’m quite aware of my own charms." Thales dropped the candle on the ground, by his side.
"Every time, you remind me of your hatred for me?" Asher tilted his head. That was getting him really bored.
Thales nodded. "I need to burn it in your skull."
That phrase got Asher excited again. Someone who truly hated him, and possibly sort his life.
It gave him a rush of excitement.
"I really want to know more about you, Thales. Will you tell me what you plan to do with the lycans you kidnapped?"
"What are you talking about? You need proof to accuse me of such things." Thales said. "I am a worker under Delta Zara and she sent me to do nothing of such—"
"But you’ve been doing it anyway!" Asher left where he sat. "And don’t drag Zara into this!"
If he was bold enough to show his hatred, why couldn’t he also accept his crimes? Asher walked towards Thales and Nero followed. "Who sent you to kidnap them?"
"Zara."
Asher steps stopped. That was a lie. "Be serious."
A sly smile curved on Thales’ lips. "I am. Why can’t you believe she’s the one who sent me? Do you think the adorable Zara will never do anything wrong?"
"You have an obvious smile on your face and you revealed it too easily." Nero pointed at him. "And how dare you accuse your master!"
Thales’ shoulders shook as he laughed. "Why can’t I accuse her? It’s not like you’d actually do anything to her."
Asher’s fists clenched tightly. "You think?"
Thales narrowed his eyes at him. "I know."
