Chapter 223: Their Relationship

Chapter Two Hundred-Twenty-Three – Their Relationship

Stefan let out a heavy exhale as he walked down to Sorren’s quarters. How were those Elders still active at their old age?

He looked tired just by watching them.

He sighted a lady walking with a young boy. He hastened up when he recognized her. "Lady Blossom!"

The young boy turned first then became pale and bowed. "Alpha! I’m... not here to..." Stefan patted his head.

The Lady bowed. "Alpha Stefan, you sure didn’t change. How are you?" she stretched her hand to him but Stefan moved away, his hand still on the boy.

"I heard Chris came back so I hoped to run into him later, that’s all." Stefan forced a smile, then noticed her hand reaching for his head again.

She always wanted to pat the next person’s head. And he had been trying to repay her son all the head pats but she kept piling them.

He discreetly moved away again, not wanting to hurt her feelings as she was like a younger sister to his mother. "I’m fine, thank you. Can I have a word with Chris?"

The boy looked down.

"Sure. Meet me at the farm, later, Chris."

"Yes!" he watched his mother leave, then felt more intimidated by the Alpha besides him.

"You ran away from the palace when Sir Darren left, right?" Stefan stooped to match the boy’s height.

He noticed the boy’s eyes closed. "Did you miss your mother? I just heard from Sorren that he didn’t tell you that you’d actually be the spokesperson."

The boy opened his eyes and found that the Alpha wasn’t mad at him for his cowardly act. "I’ll still do it. I think I can... just... my mother needed me at the farm and..."

"I understand." Stefan held his hand and began walking towards their farm.

He’d never keep a young child from his mother, except that now, they needed the boy’s help. "I wanted to ask you about that. Did you ask Sir Darren?"

The boy nodded and Stefan smiled.

"When I asked him if he helped Green Valleys’ get their alliance with Damancas, he said that the Princess had gotten it by her display of intelligence."

Stefan raised a brow. Sir Darren praising Laurel like that, when he didn’t know her? "Was that all?"

The boy added. "He also said that the pack and Damancas already had an alliance so it’s only renewed."

Stefan nodded. Laurel said something like that during the time she was threatening and debating for the freedom of her pack. "Is that so? Thank you. Run along now."

They were in front of the farm and the boy sprinted off.

Stefan exhaled, as he turned back, going for Sorren’s quarters again. Sir Darren seemed to know Laurel, but might not be on a personal level.

He remembered that Sir Darren had visited Laurel and while Stefan didn’t want to ask why, he was curious.

Baxter had said that the Princess didn’t act like a friend was coming to see her, and her officials seemed formally dressed to see the ally.

Stefan also remembered that Laurel had preferred belonging to Sir Darren than staying with him.

With Sir Darren’s personality, Stefan knew he was a good person who’d probably officially marry Laurel while keeping her safe. It made Stefan uncomfortable.

That decision he made that day, was the best. At least, Sir Darren had become a useful ally.

"Sorren!" he called when he reached.

He hurriedly tapped Sigma that was sleeping on the couch. The Delta sleepily kicked his hand away and turned face up.

Stefan left him as his mouth opened. He would probably bite his next disturbance. He went to Sorren’s room. "I hope you aren’t asleep too— Good."

Sorren turned to him, while still brushing his long hair. "I’d go to sleep soon though. You want to abandon me and return to your fortress, right? By all means. Good-bye."

Stefan sighed, sitting on his bed. "Did you figure out if Sir Darren has any relationship with Laurel?"

Sorren stopped brushing, remembering something. His hand resumed brushing. "He once called her by her name. If he was a guest of Silent River, then he knew her."

That meant Laurel probably hoped on a better life with Sir Darren than with him. Stefan’s fists clenched at those thoughts.

But he couldn’t really blame her. She was in prison.

Now that his anger had been quelled, he could see all the things he nearly missed, and hoped to recover.

"They’re probably on formal terms than informal so don’t think too much about it." Sorren added when his older brother suddenly became quiet.

Stefan looked up, then walked towards the mirror. "I know. Laurel probably didn’t have the chance to be on informal friends with many people."

Sorren thought otherwise. He remembered the three warriors that tried to attack him when he brought her into the maid quarters months back.

Also she had gotten close to that cook, and Dylan chatted with her on a formal but friendly level. She might not make friends, but she knew how to connect.

"Do you want to visit High Moon Kingdom again?"

Sorren dropped his brush and took a perfume. Stefan quickly took steps back, before he sprayed it on him.

"In as much as you want to quickly dispose of me, do it discreetly!" Sorren clicked his tongue, dropping the perfume back gently.

Stefan explained. "The Elders spoke of getting settled down before I got old. Well, I have a mate that I have to work on. You, you haven’t met them yet."

High Moon Kingdom had Lycans, and his younger brother’s mate might probably be a lycan.

"Them?" Sorren rubbed his temples.

His older brother shrugged. "Should I be specific with ’she’? I don’t know what you..." he saw Sorren reaching for the perfume again and rephrased. "...’she’, then."

Sorren returned to his seat on a mirror.

"If she isn’t better than me. I’d have no interest."

Stefan frowned. "That’s a really high bar."

Sorren smirked. "That’s why she hasn’t been born yet."

That part sounded even worse. Stefan carefully left the room, and went to Sigma. "Come and wake him up, Sorren. We need to go back."

There was no reply. Stefan sighed for the nth time.
