Chapter 222: Elders of Black Claws

Chapter Two Hundred-Twenty-Two – Elders of Black Claws.

Stefan had given into the urge to look around High Mountains. Perhaps, see few elders and ask them if they had any issues.

It wasn’t like he didn’t trust Sorren to be attentive, but the Elders might swallow down some words with him.

He successfully crossed to the Elders’ quarters without being seen by the young ladies of the Pack. He sighed in relief. He knocked and waited for a reply.

"Stefan?" the door opened to reveal a tall man with white hair scattered about his black hair. He smiled.

Stefan couldn’t help but smile back. This Alpha was the grandfather of his best friend and Jade’s grandfather. His smile slowly fell as he remembered Jade.

The old man’s smile fell as well as he opened the door wider for Stefan to enter. The Alpha could catch the scent of the other Elders waiting for him.

Sigma must’ve rounded them up when he sent him to tell them of his presence. He sat in front of four of them with his head down.

But then, he realized the nervousness and guilt he usually felt around them was gone. He smiled internally. It must be because he avenged their loved ones.

"Greetings to you Alpha King Stefan!!"

Stefan raised his head to see the four Elders bowing with hands on their chests. He stood up immediately, shaking his hand frantically. "No need, really, no need, no need."

He decided to ignore the ’king’ added. He didn’t have plans for that yet.

After all, even as King, his father hoped to stay under the High Moon Kingdom for further protection.

Black Claws Kingdom had been a peaceful place so they didn’t usually have enemies but his father knew having a Kingdom attracted one.

Stefan, now he had successfully gotten under High Moon Kingdom, wanted to remain a pack or anything related.

The Elders raised their head and sat down.

Stefan noticed Jade’s grandfather still had his frown.

"How have you Elders been doing?"

"We’ve been useless as always." The only female Elder amongst them said with a smile. She had her short hair in a shabby bun.

Stefan gulped down nothing. He didn’t expect Sorren to ask for their advice about anything, but he didn’t expect them to be displeased by that.

"Sorren is the one taking care of here, right? He’s doing a good job. I’m only glad that he’s finally doing something." A blonde Elder added, with a grin.

He looked young for an Elder and was greatly admired by the young male lycans as he still brimmed with youth.

The last Elder only nodded in response, holding his head in boredom while munching on some medicinal plant.

Looking at them, having reduced from ten Elders to four, yet they were being themselves again, Stefan felt glad that he gave them vengeance, despite the costs.

He finally met Jade’s grandfather’s gaze and exhaled. "Is something wrong?" he wanted to ignore his frown and leave, after all, he only came to see how they did.

But he couldn’t, not when he felt he owed him.

"Well," the Elder finally looked away, "is everything okay at where you are? How’s Jade? Cade? All of them?"

He only wanted to ask about Jade, didn’t he? Stefan thought, but he couldn’t blame the old man. Jade was his only surviving family member.

That had been another reason Stefan couldn’t place any real punishment on her. "I broke off our engagement. Lady Jade knows about it. She’d return here soon."

The Elder didn’t look shocked. Stefan guessed he already heard Jade was in prison.

"As long as she’s in one piece, bring her back, please. Thank you for the benevolence, Alpha." He made a short bow, with his face still turned away.

The blonde Alpha looked disappointed. "Jade wasn’t your type, hmm? You might never find someone else if you don’t meet your mate, Alpha."

The female Elder nudged him harshly. "Don’t curse him! He’s just twenty-two! Are you the Moon Goddess?"

The Elder that had been munching on herbs, looked up, adjusting the turban on his head. "Just twenty-two, you are? That’s young, you are."

Stefan chuckled slightly nervously at his speech pattern. He couldn’t understand what he was saying. "Yes, I am."

The blonde Elder smirked, laying back. "In that case, you have enough time to fool around. I mean, look at me, still fooling around at one-hundred plus."

The female Elder glared at him before grabbing the other Elder’s turban and hitting him. "Stop encouraging our Alpha to be like you. You. Good. For. Nothing."

Stefan shifted himself towards Jade’s grandfather. Watching his Elders fight had only ever been stimulating when he was young and it was verbal.

"And the daughter of the wolf that destroyed us?"

The two elders stopped arguing, and turned to Jade’s grandfather that spoke, and to Stefan.

"She’s at the pack, handling her pack affairs." Stefan replied clearly. "Is there a reason you asked?"

The Elders swallowed down their rising questions, but the blonde Elder sat forward. "Can I ask why she was kept alive? I remember that her father sort for your life."

"Well, I’m not her father." Stefan exhaled. "The King was a tyrant after his wife’s death. His child wasn’t spared. I got my revenge and saved them. That’s what I chose."

If he had made up his mind about this a long time ago, then even if the daughter happened to be his mate or not, he’d have spared her some trouble.

The female Elder paused, before smiling. "If that’s what you chose, then it’s splendid. There’s no need to shed unnecessary innocent blood."

Jade’s grandfather, contrary to Stefan’s expectations, agreed. "Yes, when I met Warrior Dylan to ask about her, he said she was nothing like her father."

The blonde Elder made a long sigh, then locked his arms. The rest expected a word from him, but that was it.

Stefan sprang from his seat and made a quick bow. "Elders of Black Claws, I’m happy that you are doing well. So I’d be taking my leave—"

"Oh my, we didn’t serve you anything." The female Elder left her seat, looking around. She grabbed the medicinal herbs from the other Elder.

On turning to the Alpha, Stefan had disappeared.
