Chapter 221: Growing

Chapter Two Hundred-Twenty-One – Growing

(High Mountains)

Alpha Stefan stepped down from the carriage and thanked the rider as he rode off. There had been no need to get a carriage but Sorren had insisted.

Stefan had written him a letter of his intention to visit so he could clear his schedule and host him. Of course, he had expected the first reply that said ’no’ to his visit.

And then after much persuading, he got a ’yes’. That was how to deal with younger brothers.

Sigma stretched his back, feeling rigid all over, due to sitting in the carriage for almost five minutes. "We could have just walked. I’m not used to this new form of torture."

Stefan smiled. The boy had begun having a personality and it’s showing in his speech. He wondered if Sorren had noticed it too. His baby Sigma was growing.

They walked into the huge gate, that served as entrance for High Mountains.

As he had requested, the guards didn’t make it known that he was the Alpha so he peacefully passed.

His eyes went over the houses and the pups playing in the middle. It was shaping up already. There was no fallen house anymore, all had been rebuilt.

They made way towards Sorren’s quarters. Stefan could hear the silence from the building. How did his brother endure all that loneliness?

Sigma opened the door and yelled out. "Prince Sorren, we are here!" he looked around and ran into a room.

"He better not be asleep while knowing we’re coming." Stefan mumbled as he fell on a seat. Still he heard his tired sleepy yawn as Sigma pulled him out.

"You guys came early." Sorren rubbed his eyes, then fell on the seat by his older brother. Stefan glared at him before sighing. "We were actually twenty minutes late."

"So I thought you weren’t coming." Sorren sighed, shaking his head to remove his dizziness.

The Alpha looked away from him. He always contradicted himself. He thought of bringing out the gift he brought to him but decided against it. He wasn’t a kid.

But on looking at Sorren, whose eyes had darkened on him as if he heard his thoughts, Stefan dipped his hand into the bag and shoved the gift to him.

"We had a short alliance with a werewolf pack that makes armory so I asked for a customized one for you. They’re the colors you like, right?" he beamed proudly.

Sorren’s eyes ran over it, then he dropped it carefully by his side. "What do you mean by short alliance?"

Stefan sighed internally. He really wasn’t expecting him to accept that he liked it, but since he handled it with care then it showed he did.

It was a light but almost impenetrable body armor. It had ruby stones at the joints of its limbs and its overall body was golden and black.

It wasn’t modest, like his brother would like.

Stefan folded his arms. "I’m not complaining to you. Do you complain to me about the things at High Mountains—"

"Should I?" Sorren deadpanned. "I write letters to my dead mom, complaining to her. I was abandoned anyway."

Even Sigma shook his head at his dramatics. Stefan would’ve preferred he left his good late mother out of it.

"The Alpha of a small pack, Rolling Stones, dissolved her alliance with us. She accused Lau... Princess Laurel..." Stefan’s eyes went to Sigma, "...of suggesting it to her."

Sorren smirked. That would annoy that little lady. But since the Alpha was more powerful, she’d grit her teeth and endure it.

He turned to his older brother. "You did something to make her feel better, right!"

Stefan glanced at Sigma again. "To make her feel better?" What would he have done? And to her?

Sigma left where he sat and walked towards the kitchen on perceiving a sweet aroma. Sorren turned and yelled after him. "You can eat all. I made them only for you."

Stefan frowned slightly. Of course, he escorted Sigma to see him. He adjusted himself, facing Sorren. "What did you mean by ’make her feel—"

Sorren’s gaze darkened on him. "Don’t tell me that since you threw me here, you’ve not tried getting close to your mate." His eyes slowly widened when Stefan looked away.

He rubbed his temples. He was no matchmaker by any chance, it was no concern of his. But his brother had other ambitious ladies around him.

That Cara.

She missed his first trap but he planned more. If she somehow proved slightly useful to his brother, Sorren worried that Stefan could fall for her.

That was how Jade had gotten him. By being useful.

"You don’t want your mate anymore?" Sorren asked with a straight face. "You want to hate her—"

"No."

Sorren smiled. That answer came faster than he expected and sounded firmer too. That was good growth.

"Then, wait around till some fine men surround her as she’s now the Princess." Sorren advised.

Stefan raised a brow. He meant ’don’t wait around...’, right? The scene of his mate against the wall with that Damancas Prince flashed on his mind.

Sorren noticed his expression changed. Was that pain and anger from the thought of Laurel being with someone, or there was already someone around Laurel?

"Oh, and I should add." He rubbed the armor by his side. "Laurel seems to like gentlemen. Like those who smile and are polite. She was really impressed with that Zeno guy."

Zeno? Stefan frowned as he remembered. When did Laurel have an interaction with that grumpy Lycan?

"In other words," Sorren left where he sat, holding the armor to hid chest, "Try showing your kind side more. You always suffocate your enemies with it anyway."

Stefan smiled, then looked at the armor in his arms. "You must really like the gift if you’re giving this much advice."

Sorren huffed, walking to his room. "I just want nephews and nieces."

Stefan’s jaw dropped. Was that the new version of ’I want grandchildren’ from parents? And was that his way of saying he was lonely?

He rubbed his face, then left the seat and walked to the kitchen. There was a no sound coming from there.

Sprawled on the ground was Sigma with a pot on his stomach. He was asleep, with a full stomach.

"And I thought you grew up."
