Chapter 219: Crying Blood

Chapter Two Hundred-Nineteen – Crying Blood

Laurel stomped into Valkyrie’s quarters, then paused to catch her breath. Why did that Rolling Stones’ Alpha have to put her in such a situation with Stefan?

And she was compared to a child! Laurel ran her hands through her hair, pushing out a heavy sigh. Why couldn’t she get his smirking face out of his face?

"Elma, get out of my head."

"We will be together forever, Laurel." Elma snickered, then sighed satisfactorily. "At least, he wasn’t mad at us. He knew we were innocent."

That was because it was obvious. Laurel scoffed. He wouldn’t be that stupid. She strolled towards her quarters.

"He must have mood swings to threaten someone with death today and smile at the person the next day."

Elma sighed. It wasn’t yesterday the threat came though. It’s been months ago and she’d like to believe their mate had a change of heart since he never mentioned it.

"Laurel, do you think you can ever forgive him? He might have forgiven us—"

"What was my crime again? Yeah, being the daughter of the King that destroyed his home? What did I do?"

"The same way he wasn’t at fault." Elma reminded. "His crime was being the Prince of the Kingdom where your mother had been killed. You are both victims."

Laurel shook the thoughts away. "And he got his revenge. Don’t be unfair, Elma, and say I don’t deserve one."

"Then, in the words of a wise girl, the cycle of revenge never ends. It’d keep going on because the next person will get wronged and want revenge."

Laurel knew very well that it was her words, but those words didn’t stop her mate from tormenting her, so why should it stop her?

Also, she didn’t fully mean them. Revenge wasn’t wrong.

She only said that because they’re mates, and since he was keen on destroying the mate bond, she shouldn’t hope on the clouds anymore.

"You forget Elma, my father didn’t torment him either. My old man destroyed and left them to rebuild. Stefan destroyed, conquered, tormented. Those are different."

Elma stayed quiet to avoid arguing. She knew Laurel knew that Stefan was assumed to be dead by her father so wouldn’t have had the chance of rebuilding.

But she also knew Laurel was unforgiving towards all she passed through. It hurt Elma too, but she wanted to start the process of letting go.

Laurel closed the door behind her, but it was soon opened again. Luckily, it didn’t hit her.

"Princess, something is happening to Sir Zeldris!" it was a maid, she ran out immediately towards Valkyrie’s quarters.

Laurel sped to his lodge and barged in with knocking.

She found him grunting and holding his hair, as he crouched on the ground. She ran towards him, trying to raise his head up.

"Wh-What’s wrong—"

She felt something wet on her hands and she retrieved her hand, thinking he was crying. But she saw blood. Her hand shook before she leaned down to his face.

He was crying but it was blood. She left him quickly and found a scissors, she saw none around so returned to him.

"Rest on me!" she forced his head on her laps, face up. Her claws shot out and she cut the small cloth from his face.

The cloth fell, and strangely withered away, like a plant.

Laurel was panting heavily. Zeldris’s grunts turned to sighs. She rubbed his head, looking at his eyes that still streamed out blood.

She could only guess that the magic imbued cloth was the problem, because crying out blood should only be metaphoric, not realistic.

"Do you think your eyes will still work?" she asked, as he was yet to open his eyes, probably due to fear of seeing nothing.

Laurel frowned at the situation. If her bodyguard became completely blind on the same day she made the Alpha know he was her knight, it’d be bad.

Also, Zeldris will be awfully quiet for a while, which wouldn’t be a good thing. It’d affect him.

"Zeldris..." he seemed to be asleep.

She exhaled in relief. If he felt calm enough to sleep then they may not be any other problem. Then she realized, his head was still on her laps.

She closed her eyes, regretting her action, even if it was a moment of panic. When she opened her eyes, she found his lips curved in a smirk.

"I should’ve known!" she raised her hand to smack him but he quickly left her body. She hissed.

"So can you see? Open them." She leaned close. He did nothing but touch his closed eyes. "Are you scared?"

"Wouldn’t you be?" he sighed. "I may see... nothing."

Laurel’s shoulders slumped. She patted his head, hoping it’d soothe the despair that’d come with the revelation that he couldn’t see.

"It might have repaired something. Maybe you’d still see in black and white. You never know. Also, we can use Sir Darren and get another of that."

Zeldris shook his head. "Healing magic isn’t common because werewolves regenerate naturally. But my eyes couldn’t regenerate to its natural state so magic was used. And now... apart from my mother, I don’t think anyone else bothered to learn healing magic."

"You never know." Laurel repeated, even if she didn’t also know. Surely, Sir Darren might get someone. Even Escanor, who’s from Damancas, might know.

Hope shouldn’t be lost yet.

"Open your eyes first." She shifted from his side and came in front of him. "Tell me what I’m wearing?"

At least, he hadn’t seen her today so he couldn’t randomly guess, not that she thought he would in this situation. He faced her, then breathed out.

Laurel stayed back so he could get a full view.

His eyes gently opened and Laurel was relieved that they could even open. Since he always tied the cloth, she assumed his eyes were stuck by now.

Her lips parted when a pair of hazel eyes were staring at her, with no clear coordination. No life in them.

But they were pretty.

With the cloth out, his straight long hair falling behind him, with his pretty eyes, Laurel had to accept that he was more than a noisy young wolf.

"So, do you see me?" she asked when his eyes moved.
