Chapter 216: Coward

Chapter Two Hundred-Sixteen – Coward

Laurel’s grip on Bebe’s hand tightened. Coward? This Alpha didn’t know a thing!

She quickly jumped back, as a spear dived to the Alpha. The Alpha bent backwards and caught it before it got to her face.

"Don’t call the Princess a coward!"

Laurel sighed in relief, he was finally here. She ignored his dangerous act and stretched her hand to stop him from doing anything further.

"We’re done here, Escanor, Bebe. Let’s go."

She sent one more glance at the Alpha. "I don’t know when you’d start your assassination so I’d not bother the Alpha, it’d fail anyway. But know that, you’re alone in it."

The Alpha tilted her head. "Is this how you encourage me? If you want, you can tell the Alpha. Though, I doubt it’d change anything. My plans are already in motion."

Her plans had started? Laurel frowned, then turned away, pulling Bebe with her. That was one deranged Alpha. She should never have made the trip here.

"You won’t let our mate know?" Elma didn’t know how to feel about it. "It’d not work but..."

She could already feel Laurel’s resolve, and the resentment within, perhaps it was hatred.

Being called a coward for accepting the fall of her Kingdom, and letting the captors roam free.

It must have sparked something in her. Something Elma didn’t like. Laurel was unforgiving, but not vengeful. Yet, it felt that Alpha’s words were switching things.

Escanor bowed in apology but Laurel ignored him, glaring at nothing in the distance. "You guys don’t mind having a short stop at Silent River Pack, do you?"

She was yet to ask Darren how his teaching with the spokesperson went. She’d use that to distract how she was feeling.

Escanor seemed reluctant, but the Princess had another scary expression on her face so he didn’t dare refute.

Finn let them into Silent River as he recognized Escanor and the Princess. He marked the other as plus one.

The servant that hosted them said to wait at the living room while she left to get Sir Darren, he seemed to have returned late from teaching yesterday and was resting.

Laurel felt guilt for bothering him.

She only wanted him to know. Not for any special reason.

He was currently a leader, like her, and had his own grudges against the Alpha and those lycans.

If an assassination was being sent in motion, would he encourage it? If not, because of its failing chances, would he let his captor know of it?

"There’s no way it’d be linked to me, if it succeeds or not. Is there any need to tell him?" she asked Elma.

She could also feel her wolf’s desire to let their mate know. But Elma desired their mate knowing, for his own protection, not because she didn’t want to be blamed.

"In that case," Laurel added on seeing her emotions, "no need to worry because it’d fail. You know that much."

The servant returned with Sir Darren. He didn’t seem like he’d been asleep so Laurel felt less guilty.

"How’ve you been, Princess— oh, we met yesterday, right?" his eyes went to Escanor.

His heart skipped a beat. He adjusted himself in his seat. Could it be the Princess was here to return Escanor?

But seeing Laurel’s expression, he guessed something worse had happened. He listened attentively to her narrating what just happened.

While he felt honored to be needed for advice by the Princess, he couldn’t help but wonder why she needed his advice.

It was simple – let the assassination happen.

As the Princess had said, countlessly that it seemed like a prayer, she knew the assassination would fail. Then why did she worry? It had low chances on being pointed at her.

If this Rolling Stones’ Alpha would use her own means to try to defeat a lycan Alpha, because she was probably a lycan hunter, then she should be really prepared.

It wouldn’t be bad if the death happened. That lycan Alpha surely didn’t think his enemies were few.

"So what is the problem, Laurel?" Darren asked plainly. He noticed her shock at the question. Did she think she had been self explanatory? He decided to rephrase.

"Why don’t you want the assassination to happen?"

Laurel’s breathing hitched. Why did he think so? How did he think so? She did her best not to show any agitated expressions. It was Elma’s fault for making her this way.

"I don’t care about it. It will hardly be directed to me." She knew that wouldn’t be enough so she added. "But it’d be a hassle if he’s assassinated."

She hoped he wouldn’t ask for more reasons because that was all she could muster at the moment.

Darren nodded. The chances that the Princess was just being careful were high, and he’d only hope that was it.

She obviously didn’t hold any affection towards the lycan Alpha so that was clear.

However, if there was any other reason why that lycan Alpha shouldn’t die, an abstract reason or a deal, then that’d be harder to figure out.

"It will be a hassle, but let the assassins deal with it."

Laurel nodded in understanding, breathing out in relief that he didn’t bother ask further. She felt better with his reassurance to keep it a secret.

The Rolling Stones’ Alpha will fail, and if she told Stefan, it might seem like she insulted him by expecting him to die by weaklings. She didn’t know how proud he could be.

With that out of her mind, she stayed at Silent River, having tea with Darren while sharing the problems of being leaders.

She mentioned the success of Green Valleys’ exported goods to Damancas and got congratulated by Darren.

Escanor had been showing off Darren’s armory to Bebe.

Few hours later, Laurel decided to return to her pack. It felt like a holiday, away from the remaining notices on her table. But it had a quick end.

"Oh, and Princess," Darren called as they were about leaving, "I’d suggest you strictly avoid anything concerning those lycans, their joys, sorrows, as long as it doesn’t directly affect you and Green Valleys, do avoid it."

Laurel slowly nodded, before smiling. "I will. Thank you."
