Chapter Two Hundred-Seven – Impression
Laurel watched as those three strolled into the hall like victors of an intense battle. She had to eye roll.
She should have known. Calling anything a ceremony would strike a ’who’d look best’ event. She smiled.
At least, the Delta would know what kind of goofballs he’d be dealing with. Even the Beta had taken it seriously.
A maid was running in behind the three and had to stop to look at the attires. "Um... Princess! The guests are here!"
Three seats were taken immediately.
The two maidens with the Beta stood at either side of his seat. Laurel exhaled.
Even the young boy had more taste than she did. Well, since she became Princess, she had dressed better everyday so she looked alright.
"Let them in, please!"
The maid bowed and ran back.
Zeldris sat on a chair at the left of Laurel, the Beta was at her right and he wanted to avoid the menace.
Black Claws’ Lead Warrior walked in, alone.
He paused when he noticed the atmosphere was a bit tense. And the clothes they wore... his eyes tarried on Valkyrie before he dragged them to the Princess.
He made a small bow. "Your highness, I’m here to confirm for the Alpha, did you receive the notice?"
Laurel looked at it and nodded at Zeldris.
Zeldris replied. "She did. To host the Silent River ally, is it not? Why do you think you need a confirmation?"
Baxter frowned. That blind shrimp still stuck around the Princess? He forced a smile. "In that case, I’d bring the guest in. The Alpha just needed the confirm—"
"You must think the Princess is a stubborn one." The Beta interrupted him. "She is. But this guest has also taken in refugees from our Pack and sheltered those affected by the destruction. The Princess is also grateful to him..."
A line flashed on Baxter’s head. The destruction? Was that brat referring to the Alpha? His fists clenched. "I understand. Excuse me." he walked out.
Zeldris turned to smile at the Beta but received only a side glare, so he looked forward. The Lead Warrior returned with Sir Darren and someone else.
Laurel’s expression slowly changed from expectant to slight disappointment. So they were four?
The supposedly new Delta she’d be having was wholly covered in a golden armor and a metallic sword behind him. Possibly for first impression.
So they were four overdramatic officials she had?!
Zeldris tried his best to suppress his laughter, at the supposed Delta’s appearance.
He left his seat, rushing towards Sir Darren. "I’ve heard so much about you, sir. Do you mind a hug? First, duck."
Darren raised a brow, his thoughts tried to process.
Hug? Duck?
Duck! He bent down, just in time for Zeldris’s leg to slam against the Delta’s helmet, sending it flying off.
"If you’d be our Delta, you bastard, then apologize to the Princess first!"
Laurel left her seat. The red haired young man! He was the Delta? He wasn’t expecting Zeldris kick and unlike last time, it really hit him at the head.
Darren immediately striked Zeldris back, making him stumble. He held unto Escanor who bent down, holding his head in pain.
"Am I missing something here?" Darren tried to sound calm, despite his annoyance.
Who was the blind man throwing legs around? He turned to Laurel and she had left her seat. The other officials only looked surprised.
Zeldris hissed, then strolled back to the Princess’s side. Laurel smacked his head, but he already expected it. She walked to Sir Darren and the young man.
"I’m really sorry. Just that, we met earlier and there was a misunderstanding." She held her hand to the Delta.
He didn’t look up, and instead, she noticed tear drops falling. Something seized her heart. It was like Mira and Marino crying over being bullied.
Her eyes darkened as she turned to Zeldris.
"You met Escanor earlier?" Darren brought her attention back to him. "He did come back earlier looking sober."
The Beta scoffed, making Darren look at him.
"If the Delta is going to be a crybaby, then you should kindly return with him." Ferdinand spelt out.
Laurel frowned, stooping down to the Delta and pulling his head up. She hesitated as his eyes met hers. Her frown deepened.
"You heard the Beta, stop crying or you’d not be able to make friends here. Your first impression was humorous enough."
Darren smiled, leaving Escanor’s side. He was sure the young man was going for a ’cool not a ’humorous’ when he wore that heavy armor.
Escanor forced his head down, but nodded. "S-Sorry."
Laurel didn’t know if he was apologizing for crying or what Zeldris said he should apologize for. She decided to forget everything that happened due to the turn of events.
"It’s fine. Come on."
She led him to where Zeldris sat. "Apologize to your Delta." She thought Zeldris would refuse so she’d smack his head again but he bowed.
"My apologies, Delta."
So he knew his place? Laurel shrugged, though slightly disappointed. She kept Escanor by the Beta.
"You can join us, Sir Darren. I had a lot prepared—"
"I’m sorry, Princess, but I don’t have much time. I’m here to coach the spokesperson, you remember."
Laurel looked down, nodding. "Indeed."
"However."
She looked up again.
"There are things happening within High Moon Kingdom, the home of Lycans, that I think I should tell you all about. Now, it’s best, as it seems all the officials are here."
Laurel’s eyes went to Escanor, who had lycan blood and want wolves to accept Lycans.
He didn’t react to what Darren said so she guessed he was well aware of it. She wondered if it had to do with Slime, and the actual reason Slime went to Silent River.
It had been bugging her. Was there anything special happening in that haven for refugees that the King of Lycans will bother send anyone there.
"Damancas is currently aware of this and are working to protect werewolves." Darren added, raising the tension.
Laurel held her hand together, for shock absorption. "Please, tell us."
