Chapter 206: Can’t See

Chapter Two Hundred-Six – Can’t See

It was almost time for Sir Darren to visit.

Laurel had arranged a round table in the hall, with seven seats, one slightly bigger, around it for the other officials.

Since they were welcoming a Delta that wasn’t originally from Green Valleys, they should make it more like a ceremony so it’d be memorable for him.

She had Jessika and her delicious food on standby. The maids knew what to do when the signal will be made.

For now, Laurel decided to read. It was a random book.

"Die, you evil villain!"

Yet, she was sure Zeldris was seeing a classic battle scene in it. And it wasn’t a book with pictures.

All it was a choppy tragic romance, the type that made her stomach curl in disgust.

"Which villain do you speak of? Except if you mean the female character. She’s so repulsive." Laurel closed the book and tossed it on the table.

Maybe the female character felt too close to home. That was what Laurel had planned to do too, except, she believed, that she had good reasons for it.

And she’d never take it that far. That was too vengeful.

The female character was forced to marry a man that killed her witch mother. As revenge, she killed the man with her awakened witch powers.

Laurel didn’t bother much about that, but she did bother when the female character went about killing everything the man was fond of.

His little siblings, the bakery family, the longtime friend and his family, the teenage girl who had a crush on him.

It was unnecessary to Laurel.

But what worsened it was when the female character killed her twin children, so nothing will tie her to the man.

Laurel only read the book because Valkyrie said there were twins in the book only for them to be killed by their mother. What wasted potential.

"The kind of books Valkyrie read..." Laurel sighed, rubbing her temples. "So vengeful..."

That book really spoiled her mood. Zeldris’s face popped in front of her. "Did you say something..."

She smacked him immediately, her ears reddening due to his closeness. He fell to the ground, holding his head. "You said something..."

"Yes, so ugly!" she snapped, breathing out. Why did Valkyrie have to leave her alone with this attention seeker? She could’ve dragged him with her.

She noticed he adjusted the cloth on his eyes, then his hand slowly fell to his side, seemingly in defeat.

"What?"

He sniffed before answering. "I can’t see. It happened again." He turned to her. "It must be your great hatred for me that affected the magic."

Laurel touched her hand. Or could it be because she hit his head sometimes? It was only when he invade her personal space from nowhere or made corny jokes.

Was the magic angry with her? Or with him?

She blew raspberries, crossing her legs. "At least, you wouldn’t bother me and just sit there. It’d correct soon."

Zeldris looked forward with a click of his tongue. "You really hate me. Now, I’d become one with the darkness."

His words were beginning to worry Laurel. She rested her head on the arm rest, soaking in the silence that came from his agony.

Not being able to see. She’d rather die. Her green eyes were the best thing about her and if she lost them, she’d be hard to look at.

"Does this affect your wolf too?" she broke the silence.

Zeldris’s neck turned to her direction a bit. "I see black and white with my wolf too, but this hasn’t happened when I’m with her yet."

Laurel nodded, then paused. "Her?"

"Yes!" Zeldris left the ground. "My wolf is a—"

"I don’t care." Laurel deadpanned. Her eyes went to the crown that had been by her side. It glowed so Zeldris was definitely lying. And of course, it wouldn’t be a her.

The wolf brought up crazy stories to keep a conversation going, as if he was scared of a place being quiet.

A maid hurried into the hall, holding a notice.

Zeldris used the sound of her footsteps to move away so she’d pass. The maid bowed to him, without knowing he couldn’t see her. "Princess, a notice from the Alpha."

What did he want? Laurel took the notice and tore it open. It was permission for his guest, Sir Darren of Silent River Pack, to be hosted at her place.

"It must be Sir Darren’s way of making his visit less suspicious." She mused.

Darren wasn’t supposed to have connection with her, so he came into Black Claws under guise of fulfilling Prince Sorren’s wish of helping them get an alliance with Damancas.

Laurel had found it convenient that Darren used Sorren’s joke to gain entry into Black Claws. She thanked the maid that brought the notice and she left.

"Where are those officials? Sir Darren will be here—"

The door, in front, that should only be used for Sir Darren’s entry, was gradually opened. And the three walked in, leaving Laurel’s jaw on the ground.

The Beta, had worn a red regal attire with a long cape behind it. The trousers had a golden stripe at the waist and legs. A slanted crown was on his head and he was poised with a golden staff with a diamond at the head.

Two maidens with red skin tight dresses stood besides him, complimenting his attire.

The Lead Warrior was cladded in dark leather combat suits with two black swords by her side. Her boots were shiny black that reflected the light around it.

Her head had a fitted metallic dark helmet that covered her forehead and part of her eyes. It extended above to three heads, resembling a crown.

The Lead Hunter’s apparel was a floral simple dress but the frills seemed to be made of seashells of different colors. The furry coat had the luxurious touch to the fit.

Laurel slowly left her seat. What sort of parade is this? Zeldris folded his arms. "So we were supposed to dress up to see the new Delta? I had no idea."

"You can see now?"

Zeldris nodded, tapping his feet on the ground.

"Well, Beta Ferdinand comes first. Valkyrie is second. And Lisa, are you going for Queen of the earth or Queen of the sea? Dump the shells."

Lisa’s shoulders fell. "But... but..."

Laurel quietly returned to her seat. She didn’t know there was a competition. "It is my fault. I called it a ceremony."
