Chapter 200: Cold

Chapter Two Hundred – Cold

(High Moon Kingdom)

The sun was high in the sky but it felt, to Asher, that it was on his face because of how hot it was in his room.

He rose from the bed, panting slightly.

Indeed magic wasn’t good on lycans. He had suspected it’d happen but after a while and nothing happened so he brushed it off and stayed there.

When being exposed to magic for long hours, it could drain strength, just like it did for the user. He felt weak, and he suspected the ones he came with did as well.

He turned to Sam by his side. For a small boy like him, it’d take longer for him to wake up.

Asher took his leg down the bed and it felt cooler than usual. Did the magic take away his body’s heat? Maybe that was a dangerous adventure, after all.

He quickly left to take a bath. He untied his hair and let it pour over his shoulders. The water droplets felt cold too but on touching his skin they felt warmer.

Asher exhaled. The magic might not have seeped to deep into his body. Nene hadn’t complain of a side effects of the magic on her body after witnessing Fang squad death.

Could it be Zeno’s magic that was the harmful one?

Also, Nene didn’t say anything about the bred lycans feeling tired after using their magic, but Zeno did.

Maybe, since his wolf still lived in him, he might never use his magic freely. From Asher’s point of view, Zeno might not mind. He didn’t want to rely on his magic.

"Sher..."

Asher turned towards the door. The boy must have woken up? Since Lunaria wasn’t with his brothers, the boy would’ve have to stick with him till they figure out who was.

He walked out of the bathroom few minutes later, a towel around his waist and one on his neck. His wet hair fell on his face, covering one eye.

Asher tried blowing it off but it didn’t budge. The cold was gone now. His body heat must have conquered.

"Sher...."

The King frowned at the boy. Was he a kid who kept calling on his mother? "Wake up, I’m here." But he left to his room filled with robes. The cold was returning.

He returned, with only a golden pair of silk trousers and a shawl on his neck. The cold was gone again.

"Will my body heat keep fluctuating like this?" he clicked his tongue, falling on the bed.

The moment he did, he saw Sam jump on the bed and fall on him. "Sher..."

Asher caught him, holding his body up with a frown. "Are you crazy? Why do you keep..." his hand squished something on his body.

Asher dropped Sam on the bed immediately.

The King slowly left his bed, before glaring down at the young lycan on his bed. "Sam, are you a female?"

The young lycan coiled on the bed. "Y-Yes..."

A sigh of relief left the King.

"I thought something else was growing out of a boy. A pox or something." Asher returned to the bed, shocking Sam. "So, your brothers, as you heard, are not with Lunaria."

Sam sat on the bed, feeling hot inside. She had been hiding her gender, while in the assassin squad, because she didn’t want anyone taking advantage of her.

She could easily act like a boy, faking a male’s voice and dressing like one. She had brothers, after all.

Yet, this young man realized she was a girl and didn’t even have a reaction? She looked down, her face furiously heating up.

He even squished her small breasts and said he thought it was pox? She could let it go since he didn’t know. Still!!

"Are you listening? You feel cold too, right?" Asher sighed. Zeno’s magic would affect everyone within the place. He left, returning to his room filled with robes.

Sam took the time to look around the room. Did Sher steal all these? He was really resourceful. She turned to a wall and gaped at it for long.

There was no way Sher stole all those! Even a crown!

Was he a noble! Did he get the King’s crown replicated for him! There was no way he picked that up from a merchant! That excuse wouldn’t be enough this time.

Sam already suspected that Sher wasn’t completely honest, but they just met so she didn’t expected to be trusted yet.

She’d earn his trust before he’d tell her his real identity. She owed him for saving her from that magic user.

"Ah, right..." Asher came out from the room, holding two warm white robes. "I am the King of High Moon. I hope you don’t mind." He threw the robes on her head.

Sam sat there, momentarily shaken to the core. Did he just tell her his real identity!

And did he mean it! King?!

She began babbling, her hands searching for a place to run to. She used to engage in petty thievery. Did Sher infiltrate that assassins squad to catch her? She’s dead!

Then she realized. Why would he? She’s just a nobody.

"And is his name even Sher?" She took the clothes from her head and gazed at it. They felt so soft and warm.

It made a small smile come to her face.

How did Sher do it? Say something jaw dropping and just accept it. She understood how he was so agile in the forest. And how he had those expensive things.

It made her heart beat really fast.

Sher had been nice to her, and now, he still was.

But he’s the current King of High Moon.

The current King was an enigma, more mysterious than the former King that had been caught in a beer parlor four times since his rule. That one was free minded.

Even as a Prince, very few knew about the King’s son.

She wore one of the robes, while trying to calm herself.

The door behind her opened and Sam froze. Slowly, she turned to the door. A tall lady with annoyed blue eyes stood there, staring down at her.

Sam felt like she’d die. She somehow spawned into the King’s room. What if this was his mistress?

A tear rolled down her eyes. "Brothers..."
