Chapter 201: Samantha

Chapter Two Hundred-One – Samantha

Nene stared down at the little form on Asher’s bed. How could the King of Lycans bring a random boy to his room?

She really failed as a mentor to Asher if he still pulled dangerous feats like this. Giving his robe to this little boy, was the King interested in males?

These were things she should’ve asked Slime since he was always frequenting Asher’s room.

Nene watched the little boy reduce in size and she stared at him. Had she caught them doing something wrong?

Then she noticed the tear that left his eyes. "Brothers...."

Nene shook her head. "Asher," she walked in, following his scent to his closest room. "What are you doing?"

He was deep inside, crouched down, looking into an old chest. Nene recognized the chest. His mother’s.

Asher had inherited all the things his mother owned. Including the attire he wore at his coronation. His crown was remodeled after her own.

She left him to it, he was usually in a bad mood after seeing something that used to belong to his mother, so she planned to steer clear.

"You, name?"

Sam looked down. "S-Samantha... L-L-Legon!"

Samantha? Nene’s lips parted. She leaned towards the young one and scrutinized her. She could see a little girly features stuck somewhere there.

"So, what are you doing here?" Nene’s voice was stern. Somehow, it felt a lot worse for a young girl to be in the King’s bed, than if it was a young boy.

Sam kept her head down. She had no clue. Sher saved her. She had passed out on the way. Then woke up here.

"I-I don’t know. He... he brought me after saving me from that magic user... there was... Amber... I don’t know."

Nene turned to the door. That other lanky child that was given to her? The boy did say he was Amber by morning.

She exhaled. If they were the two the King brought after going to Lunaria, then they’d be useful to the King.

She eased up, forcing a smile. "Nice to meet you, Samantha Legon. I’m Nether, but call me Nene."

Samantha raised her head up. On closer look, the lady before her was really pretty. And her blue eyes were no longer scary to look at.

"N-Nice to meet you... Nene."

The girl quickly wiped off her tears. Nene peeped inside the room and found the King had resumed searching for goddess-knows-what.

"Nene."

Nene turned to the girl.

"Is Sher really a King? I mean," Samantha looked around, "This is really his palace, right? The properties are his?"

It must’ve been hard for her to find herself here, and find out it was the King’s palace.

Nene remembered how she and her brother had been summoned to meet their new Master.

They had been aware that it’d be someone of high ranking so they followed the middlemen blindfolded, but on seeing the King of Lycans, they had peed their pants.

They were around Samantha’s age then, Nene thought.

"He really is. And he’s Asher. But you can keep calling him that." Nene walked to the door. "I’d get Amber, I think you all need a long talk with the King."

Few minutes later, Amber walked in. He had changed to the spare clothes Nero gave him and he froze staring at the opulence of the King’s room.

He was over the shock of Sher being the King. While walking into the palace, his heart had been beating wildly.

He thought it must be a dream and cursed his dream for being so vivid that he wanted to be there.

But after bumping on a fully armored warrior, and having his head throbbed with pain, he realized that he’s awake.

Which was still scary.

Yesterday was the worst day of his life, and the next day became the best. What exactly did fate have for him?

"A-Amber?"

He turned to the boy. The new recruit that joined the assassins squad, along with Sher.

Was he some kind of important personality in disguise? He was wearing an expensive white robe.

Amber bowed on impulse. "Sir Sam, n-nice to meet you. Forgive my rude behavior in your presence, yesterday." He grew sober. "Because of me, they... all died."

Sam frowned a bit. That wasn’t how she remembered it. He was trying to fight for their cause and the magic user had striked. It was none other but the magic user’s fault.

"Yes, it is indeed your fault..." Asher walked out of the room. "You should never had shot that arrow."

Sam’s face reddened as she realized the King’s chest was bare. Also, she made a new discovery. Sher was actually really handsome under the light.

Last night, she barely saw his face.

She dragged her eyes away from him when he looked at her. "And didn’t I tell you, Sam, your brothers aren’t with Lunaria. That magic user was right."

Amber froze. If the magic user was right, then it meant the magic user wouldn’t want to kill anyone. That meant he had really caused everyone’s death by shooting.

The boy fell to his knees, holding his head. "I’m sorry!"

Sam’s eyes watered seeing him cry. If that was the case, then Amber might never forgive himself. But what were they to do? Believe a bred lycan and magic user?

"Also, that lycan is an official under my Kingdom currently. If you meet him again, walk away." Asher looked from Sam to Amber.

Their looks of unbelief made him frown. "Walk away." He repeated. "If you try to expose him, I’d make sure I discredit it. I don’t want him dead."

Sam took her eyes down. That was so cold, but she understood that Sher was being a King now.

Amber cursed under his breath, looking down. If the King said so, then he’d have to obey. He’d have to swallow everything down and do as he’s told.

He placed his hand on his chest. "I’m not talented, but I’d willingly give my life to repay my debt, my debt of causing others’ death and for you saving my life, your highness."

Sam hurriedly left the bed and bowed.

"S-Same, I’d give my life as... a gift... no, I mean... thank you... yes." She bit her lower lips.

Asher huffed, crossing his legs. "It’s fine. I accept your lives. We need to find where the kidnappers are, only then can you two get what you want."

Amber nodded. He’d more than anything want to be able to finish that mission. Then, he’d feel lighter.

Sam made an ’hmm’ sound. She wanted to find her brothers too. They’ve been through so much together.

Asher smirked internally. Young people were so easy. He’d not have saved them, if he didn’t need their gratitude.

As long as he had more people to use, he was ready to do trivial good things to win them over. He wouldn’t want to get bored, after all.
