Chapter 199: Favored One
Chapter Hundred-Ninety-Nine – Favored One
Rage filled Amber to the brim.
No matter how reckless his actions were, he wanted to soothe the guilt in his heart, even if he paid with his life.
"You... I-I’d kill you!! I’d definitely kill you!!"
But his hands were shaking so bad that he couldn’t shoot accurately at the unmoving body comfortably laying on the ground, almost asleep.
Asher squatted on the branch again, a humorous grin spreading to his lips. He could tell Zeno wasn’t yet asleep.
How could he, with an arrow still in his chest, and with the archer till close?
Also Asher expected Zeno to be cautious about he and Sam, the other two on the tree who seemed harmless.
Amber slowly lowered his bow, trying to make sense of the situation. He sniffed. "How did you even... even control... How the hell are you able to use magic?!"
Asher face palmed. He’d have preferred if the young boy attacked instead of meaningless chatter. Still, Asher wanted to know, perhaps only Zeno would be able to tell.
The lycan left the ground, rising like a zombie to face the young boy with the bow. Zeno’s disheveled neck length black hair scattered across his shoulders.
His red eyes rested on Amber in an almost amused way. "You really want to know?" he also sounded like he really wanted to tell.
Amber dropped the bow completely. "Hmm!"
Zeno struggled to get up, covering his body with the richly designed coat. "You see, I’m just extra special."
That was already obvious, Asher thought. To keep his wolf and still wield magic, he was probably the first ever.
"Werewolves and Lycans can’t use magic unless they trade their wolf. In Lunaria, powerful lycans have no choice but to do it. You must lose to attain." Zeno sighed.
Amber took a step forward as Zeno stood fully, looking agile and could kill him in the blink of an eye.
"But then," Zeno’s face was adorned in a proud smirk, "My magic turned out to be compatible with my wolf!"
Asher’s eyes widened. Was that why?
Zeno began laughing, rubbing his face. "I was so scared when I was forced to remove my wolf, but it ended up being compatible with him. I was so thankful."
Amber’s hands still trembled, more in annoyance that the one who killed his team was laughing heartily.
"I, alone, got to be favored with such magic!" Zeno slapped his forehead. "It’s funny because I don’t even use it much, as I’m part of a lycan kingdom now."
Amber frowned. "The magic is really compatible with your wolf?" He needed to be sure. He might need to tell the Kingdom about the threat. Even the King.
Zeno nodded proudly. "It’s rare but yes, the witches said it had happened before. I’m the first lycan it happened to though. Well, not many lycans are into magic."
A heavy sigh left Asher. That was really it? It didn’t make it less scary but it made sense. The magic wasn’t anything unconventional or odd to wolves.
It wasn’t barrier or teleportation, but had to do with bloodlust, which was something lycans easily had. That could’ve been why it related with his wolf.
That was what Asher theorized.
"So, do you want me killing you with something else?" Zeno fell back to the ground. "Or you’d rather leave?"
Again, he had given them the chance to leave. Asher smirked. The lycan really had a shred of morality if he didn’t want to kill young ones.
Asher had already seen what he came for, so all he had to do was report back and make documentary. He whipped out a handkerchief from his pocket.
After carefully tying it on his face, covering everything but his eyes. He descended down the tree, holding Sam that was almost passed out, after sobbing for long.
Zeno became alert when he heard someone fall down a tree. He hadn’t really taken notice of that presence.
"Let’s go, Amber." Asher whispered to Amber. "Now."
Without waiting for the boy’s reply, he striked his neck, knocking him unconscious. He caught him and lifted him to his shoulder.
He carried Sam at the other, and briskly walked away.
Zeno watched them, even if he couldn’t get a clear scene as the trees cast shadows around them. He wondered if the new person was a rescue.
In that case, there’s no need to kill him. Zeno rolled to his side, succumbing to sleep. The black wolves, after having a hearty meal, circled around him to join the slumber.
The forest finally became quiet, resuming it’s natural sounds. Asher inhaled the tense breeze slowly fading away, then exhaled. "This was fun. I should keep it up."
"B-Big...broth... brothers..." a half conscious Sam kept on mumbling as Asher walked.
He led them to Snow Top Mountain. There he met Nero outside the entrance. "Your high...." The young lycan’s eyes rested on the two teenagers the King carried.
Asher walked in proudly, not sparing Nero a glance.
Nero ran after him. "They are...? You shouldn’t just bring random people... I mean, why did you—"
"Last I checked, Snow Top Mountain belongs to me." Asher interrupted still walking proudly. "And I learnt a lot from today’s adventure. I’d definitely do it again."
Nero turned pale immediately. The King will do it again? Why did he keep doing this to he and his twin?
Nero knew that despite his sister being glad the King was gone, she’d still worry because his safety was her responsibility.
Also, the former King wouldn’t accept that his son ordered her to stay put, if anything ever happened to Asher. It’d be the death of he and his twin, Nero just knew.
He watched the King throw a lanky boy towards Nene who was descending down the stairs. "Keep him in a room for me. Seduce him and make sure he doesn’t leave."
The twins had similar expressions, though Nene seemed more confused then annoyed at the King’s request. Who the hell was this kid he brought?
She looked at the one over the King’s shoulders. Just who the hell were all these! Did the King now kidnap his own subjects!
