Chapter 198: Blood Lust
Chapter Hundred-Ninety-Eight – Bloodlust
The assassins circled around Zeno while he calmly took off his gloves. He looked up and found them still there.
"Seriously, I’m not with your brothers, dammit!"
The leader charged at him without response.
And the strangest thing happened.
The birds chirping loudly around Zeno, flew to the leader in a murderous rage, pecking and scratching his face.
The leader swung his sword around but they only increased. The others joined to chase the birds away, but the creatures hiding in the shadows pounced on them.
They were huge black wolves, a special modification of Lunaria’s experiments of wolves.
Asher’s jaw dropped as he realized. Those creatures bloodlust had increased!
He could feel it since they appeared and their defensive instincts were also high!
The assassins became overwhelmed when crows cawed loudly as they dived down, grabbing skin and hair.
The assassins were overwhelmed by the wild nature of the animals yet their target hadn’t even made a move.
At that moment, an arrow zapped to Zeno, making the lycan, freeze. The arrow lodged into his heart making Zeno looked down at it quizzically.
Asher snapped his head to the lanky boy who the leader had handed a bow. How dare he spoil his fun? Asher dragged his eyes back to Zeno.
The arrow did hit him. Why? Didn’t he sense it?
The intensity the birds and wolves attacked reduced. Zeno’s eyes were still on the arrow that got buried in his chest.
The leader rolled out from the birds bothering him as their attack intensity had reduced. He noticed the condition the bred lycan was in and frowned.
He turned to the lanky boy and screamed. "Amber, I didn’t say you should shoot! We need him alive—"
Sam quickly covered his eyes. The leader had a claw impaled through his chest. A huge Lycan form towered over him, its red eyes burning down on its prey.
Asher fell back, but not for the same reason the rest did.
The wolves charged at the assassins seriously, ripping them apart.
Sam kept his hand on his mouth to cover his screams. Before, the wolves had majorly been harassing and giving bruises but no, now, they tore skin and nibbled on bones.
The birds were viciously after the eyes of its prey. And the raging growl of the lycan form, with an arrow still impaled in its chest, seemed to fuel the animal’s rage.
Amber fell back, tears streaming down his eyes. His lanky form trembled but he couldn’t take his eyes off. He should’ve waited for an order.
This took a different turn and Asher had a mix of confusion and excitement and then more distress.
Zeno killing the assassins wasn’t surprising at all. In fact, Asher tried his best not to show his pleasure as the victims were from his kingdom.
However, Zeno shifting to his wolf, to his lycan form, totally threw him off – because, all magic was gotten in exchange of one’s wolf... but Zeno still had his.
That had never happened before. Asher never heard.
A bred lycan with magic and a wolf. That was excessive.
This was the cause of his confusion.
For his excitement, it’s seeing Zeno’s magic, which might lie in controlling surrounding animals, perfecting what he used science to create – increasing blood lust.
The best part was Zeno’s magic reverted the animals back to their original self. Which meant they’re reusable, which wasn’t the same for the wolves he tested on.
And Asher’s distress, which made him fear for his next decision, was that he so badly wanted to... experiment on this lycan. But it’s wrong.
Bred lycans didn’t fall under the same spectrum as werewolves. They were victims too, in a way.
But seeing one who embodied his drug perfectly, Asher had these thoughts.
Magic was part of Zeno, his blood, so extensive research would greatly help Asher, yet he resisted the urge.
He stood straight on the tree branch, casting his eyes over everything for the last time. All the assassins were dead and the wolves feasted on their flesh.
The birds still nibbled but never swallowed. The lycan was calmer now. It broke off the tail of the arrow on its chest and threw it towards Amber.
The lanky boy shrieked, already feeling dead for all he had caused. "He controlled himself not to kill you." Asher told Amber. The boy looked up the tree with teary eyes.
Asher met his gaze, having disgust and disappointed. "He gave you guys the chance to escape yet you made a sneak attack? You’re lucky he didn’t go wild with rage."
Amber hiccupped, his body vibrating at the thought of being in pieces as the others were now. "H-How can he... do all that?" he struggled to ask.
Asher forced a smirk. Many hadn’t realized it yet. That some bred lycans had magic. Neither had they realized the terror within it, but the boy had.
"Well," Asher faced him, standing on the branch, "it’s magic. I don’t know how he still has his wolf, but yes."
Sam held unto the branch, his eyes getting cloudy from tears. "L-Let’s save m-my big... br-brothers... Sher."
Asher glanced at him, then looked away. Zeno obviously didn’t know about it, so Lunaria might not be involved. Or it could be something deeper, that even Zeno didn’t know.
"Don’t be stupid. We should leave now that the lycan is down—"
A loud growl left Zeno’s lycan form, before he reduced, slowly shifting back to his human form. His body fell, bare.
He reached for a coat he had laid on the boulder while sleeping, and covered his body with it, feeling sleepy after his rage.
The animals were calm now, confirming Asher’s analysis. The birds flew off and all seemed to be returning to normal with Zeno slowly drifting to sleep.
Yet the rage transferred to another. Amber grabbed the bow that had fallen from his hand and ran towards Zeno.
His body was trembling but he pointed it at him. "You!"
His eyes went to the rest that had been reduced to mince meat. His teeth gritted. "You! I-I’d kill you!!"
