Chapter 196: Perfect Common Person
Chapter Hundred-Ninety-Six – Perfect Common Person
(High Moon Kingdom)
Why did he never think of this? The most brilliant thing he’d done since he became King – apart from his successful drug.
Taking a day off!
Even Kings had that.
And it was in the form of taking a sick leave!
Slime had gone to Zara and that’s okay because he’d now have to take things into his own hands – like the King he was. And there’s an important issue in Asher’s head.
Asher snuggled up in bed when he heard the maids knock. He faked a croaky ’come in’ and the two young girls crawled into the room, hoping not to make the faintest sound.
It was common knowledge that during the few times the King had fallen sick, he hated noise.
Only that during those times, he made the loudest noise and blamed it on the medicine’s reaction.
Nene stood outside the King’s door, watching the maids pitifully. If only they knew that the King faked everything and had only gotten sick one in his life.
On the day his mother was separated on him. What befell him was akin death, and he had recovered from it without his soul as he became... what he was now.
But other times he fell ’sick’, it was just excuse not to go to a meeting, or when he tried his ’seventy percent sure’ drugs on himself and the ’thirty percent’ reacted badly.
He became loud mostly because the drugs took his hearing, and he would hate for someone to speak to him at that point so he didn’t want noise.
Yet he’d scream when he needed some attention. Remembering all these, Nene couldn’t help but sigh at herself for being stuck with the nineteen year old even as he was King.
She had hoped for a miracle, but she was so covered in blood that the Moon Goddess wouldn’t show her mercy.
The maids dropped his breakfast on his table and left as they came, closing the door carefully behind them.
A second later, Asher sprang from the bed with the agility of a young monkey. "Nene! Bring it!"
The poor lady exhaled, while digging through the bag she had with her. How could he be so excited for such a weird plan? She stretched out dull looking clothes to him.
Asher raised them towards the chandelier in his room. "Ah! They shine brighter than the greatest opulence!"
He must be sick and his sight was taken, Nene thought.
She had tried to convince him to discard his plans of blending with a group of shady travelers, by midnight. Bad things happened during that time.
All in a bid to infiltrate Lunaria, a place she had reported to him was a crawling hive of bred lycans with magic.
But she’d have more luck convincing a broom to sweep a room itself than convince Asher to not do something obviously dangerous but exciting to him.
And she had clear orders not to tell anyone, especially his father. She wouldn’t have either way. The former King would probably have a seizure if he knew.
Lunaria took his Queen and now, his son was obsessed with the place. Nene sighed. The King had it the hardest.
Asher jumped down his bed and towards the dressing room. "You say these are easy to wear, right?"
She nodded, even if he couldn’t see her. "Just put yourself in them. They were made with good quality too so it wouldn’t rip easily."
A minute later, Asher came out, wearing the clothes that were a dull brown but clung fittingly to his upper body. The lower body was like a gown with slit at the sides. There was a black trousers underneath that didn’t compliment.
"Pathetic enough?" Nene raised a brow.
"Perfect! I look like the perfect common person!" Asher swirled himself, for her to see.
But Nene had seen enough. Even common persons would try looking for colored trousers to match but for his orders for the most dull looking, she got those two.
Her face molded together when he wore his black boots, that were made with the finest leather in High Moon. That was a straight giveaway that he was royalty or noble!
But she didn’t bother tell him. He wasn’t stupid so he might be looking forward to something.
"Sword, Nene?" he opened his palm.
She took out another item from her bag, wrapped in a scabbard. "It’s a common type of sword too."
Asher unsheathed it and looked it over. "It will work."
He stuck it in a sword belt and attached the belt on his waist. Again, the sword belt looked expensive in it’s shiny blue grandeur but Nene left him to it.
"And I’m gone!" He climbed unto a window. "Later."
Nene wiped her forehead. Now, she could use the next two hours for something productive. "Good luck."
He jumped, gliding down the wall and landing on his feet. He dashed to the location Nero discovered for him. He tied his long hair in a bun, hiding the green edges as it could make him stand out.
Reaching the location, he slowed down, hiding his aura so he’d blend in. He caught the whispers of the young men and smirked. He was close.
It was by sheer luck that he had overheard two drunkards speaking of how they’d sneak into Lunaria to rescue their brothers-in-law who was kidnapped.
Their reason was so they’d let their young master marry his sister, so Asher didn’t think it was motivation enough. Till another came, saying more people went missing.
As their King, Asher couldn’t ignore this, even if they’ve been no official report about the disappearing.
What other way to help than acting like a victim wanting to save his brother and join them.
Lunaria should’ve stopped kidnapping lycans. If they haven’t and he got proof of it, that’d be reason for a war.
"Yes, Sher! You’re here!" one of them said after spotting Asher. He pointed at another young boy. "Stick with Sam."
Asher glanced at the Sam. A young boy with a small build but Asher could guess he was fast. His brown hair scattered over his face and he glared at Asher darkly.
"Hmm...." Asher threw his sword on him. "Keep it. Are you really with no weapon?"
Sam looked down, his eyes widening on seeing the expensive sword belt. "W-Where did you get this?"
With his voice, Asher guessed it’s probably a fifteen year old. It’d be disappointing if he died here.
"Why, I stole it from a travelling noble."
Sam looked at him in admiration, then shifted his eyes to his boots. He stooped down, touching it. "A-And this?"
"Stole it from a merchant few days ago."
Sam’s admiration increased. He smiled, stretching his hand to Asher. "Nice to meet you! Let’s stick together!"
Asher took his hands, shaking it. They were always easy.
