Her Vengeful Lycan Alpha -
Chapter 194: The Request
Chapter 194: The Request
Chapter Hundred-Ninety-Four – The request.
Baxter didn’t expect the Alpha to accept the request so quickly. He also noticed the Alpha unconsciously arrange his hair.
Baxter didn’t want to read meaning into it, but as a self acclaimed ladies’ man, he couldn’t help but wonder if the Alpha fancied the princess.
He did keep her alive while brutally butchering other officials in her Kingdom. Was it attraction at first sight?
Either ways, he told the Princess the news and awaited what her conversation with the Alpha will be like. He planned to confirm his findings with this.
But then, a young man, who was with the Princess, turned to him a smile. Baxter wondered why his eyes were covered but brushed it off. "What is it?"
"Hello, will you walk my escort and I to the Alpha?"
Escort? Laurel’s mouth fell. Was it Valkyrie he called escort? Or what nonsense was he sputtering?
Baxter’s mouth was also open. Could it be the Princess he referred to as escort? Or was he the escort but he used the wrong words. "Hmm... yes. Come with me."
Zeldris followed the Lead Warrior, then paused when the lycan stopped. The lycan turned to the Princess and seeing she didn’t come, Baxter sighed and kept moving.
Valkyrie stood outside waiting, and Baxter paused when their eyes met. Her gaze on him were always icy and it made him feel bad.
He tore his gaze from her to her attire. It matched with the young man by his side. Was it a warrior’s uniform?
"The Alpha accepted our request, let’s go." Zeldris told Valkyrie and she nodded obediently, staying behind him.
Baxter didn’t understand. Was it the Lead Warrior who was his escort? He couldn’t check for the rank of the young man but he didn’t think he was powerful.
They walked into the Alpha’s palace and Zeldris’ eyes travelled everywhere. The place was too big for one person, in his opinion.
Despite Baxter wanting to leave, since the Princess didn’t come, he had to walk them in and wait till they were done.
The Alpha was still buried in his work when Baxter ushered the guests in. Stefan raised his head expectantly but lowered them again almost immediately.
"She sent these representatives?"
Baxter listened hard to find the disappointment in the Alpha’s tone, but there was none, only curiosity. "Yes, it seems. This one hasn’t been recorded in the official—"
"The name is not ’this one’, it’s Zeldris." Zeldris clicked his tongue, pushing Baxter’s hand down.
The Lead Warrior let his hand fall, while giving annoyed looks at this random man who spoilt his chance to get the Alpha and Princess interaction.
Stefan focused on the young man. Blindfolded and a ponytail. What was he going for? "State your business. What do the Princess want to talk about?"
Valkyrie stepped forward, laying the foundation. "Princess Laurel has humbly asked for permission for Green Valleys’ Warriors to train under General Conrad."
Stefan’s hand stiffened. He dropped the notice he was reading. To train under General Conrad?
That General was still a suspicious case but he wouldn’t want to train warriors who weren’t Black Claws’. Mostly, the ones from the pack of the Alpha that destroyed them.
Yet, this was one of Laurel’s first request to him since she became Princess and he didn’t want to just turn her down.
"Lead Warrior Baxter, what do you think? You know of the General’s schedule more." He shifted it to Baxter.
Baxter planned to give a flat out rejection because he knew General Conrad would be unwilling, but that would mean rejecting Valkyrie’s request.
"Well...." He searched for the words.
Zeldris raised his hand to speak. "It will mean a lot to the Princess if General Conrad handles our warriors, because due to circumstances, we don’t have a seasoned warrior."
Stefan squinted his eyes at the young man. He couldn’t help but feel that last part was directed at him, for killing Green Valleys’ seasoned warriors.
So they planned to use him to rebuild what he took from them? And if he didn’t to, would they rise against him or just let him be a bad ruler in silence?
"But that will be akin to being like her father." Stefan muttered. Was this what his mate was trying to do? Or he was overthinking again? He didn’t want a long debate on the topic. "This depends on the General, young man—"
"Zeldris." Zeldris interrupted him with a smile.
Baxter clenched his fists. "Shut up! The Alpha can call you anything! What’s so big about your name—"
"But, the Princess just gave me today!" Zeldris said cheerfully. "So it’s not fair not to call me that!"
Valkyrie made an ’hmm’ sound, sort of confirming, since he had told her he waited for a new name when she had asked him his name.
"Congratulations on the new name." She muttered, but everyone in the room heard her.
Zeldris nodded. "Thank you." Then he faced the Alpha. "I don’t understand why the General wouldn’t want to train our warriors. We are all under one Alpha, aren’t we?"
Stefan already decided. He didn’t like this guy. Did everything have to turn politic?
"The General is still capable of making a choice."
"And the Princess respects that." Zeldris stated. "But currently, a pack under his Alpha has poorly trained warriors. These are also his Alpha’s warriors."
Baxter glared at Zeldris. With his words, he meant to say that if the General didn’t want to help Green Valleys’, it’s like abandoning his Alpha’s warriors.
Did they really have to play a mind game even without getting a direct ’no’? Baxter held Zeldris’ arm. "You can talk to the General directly later. He might say no tho—"
"Is that what we’d tell our Princess’? To go directly to the General and probably get a ’no’?" Zeldris took back his arm. "Well, if the Alpha pleases, I’d do so."
Zeldris’ eyes returned to the Alpha who was glaring at him. The Princess had given him a minor tip, two in fact.
One. Make it all about the Alpha. ’Green Valleys’ warriors being strong will benefit the Alpha’ and whatnot.
Two. Don’t falter. The Alpha is malleable. Bend him.
