Chapter 192: A Child

Chapter Hundred-Ninety-Two – A Child

Darren once again began thinking really hard on returning the young man, named Escanor. He would be a useful addition to Princess Laurel and he was willing to serve.

However, he was half lycan, which meant many things.

Currently, his two Lycan cousins were coming to pay him a visit because his departure had been abrupt.

Darren rubbed his temples, thinking of his next action. Escanor’s mother was loving so she kept good relationship with her lycan husband family even after his death.

Hence, Escanor and his lycan cousins were really close. They didn’t cause trouble for werewolves around Escanor so Darren didn’t see any reason not to let them in.

The only problem was that were lycans.

Silent River had barely recovered from the last lycan attack, finding two, even if peaceful, lycans would set them off to defense and attack mode.

This bothered Darren because he didn’t want another injured child in his hands. And the cousins were already on the move, so they was no stopping them.

They weren’t highly ranked lycans and just normal lycans who lived as subjects at High Moon Kingdom.

Contrary to that, Escanor’s mother was a Beta’s daughter, hence her werewolf blood surpassed the lycan blood in Escanor.

Darren noticed a cup of tea was placed on the table. He looked up and frowned. "And where are you going?"

The young man had a bag strapped to his back and held a sword, one Darren recognized was his. The young man just picked anything he liked. A really spoilt child.

Escanor touching his reddish hair back, looking at Darren stubbornly. "If you don’t want my cousins to visit, then I’d go to them there. I’d be back in two days."

Darren slapped the table lightly, getting up. "No. You’d stay here and they’d come in here. And what do you mean two days...." He trailed off, rubbing his face.

Even raising Ella, for the past two years, hadn’t been as hard as it was raising this eighteen year old, for the past three days, starting from Damancas.

"I can’t go to them? Then they should come here."

That was exactly what he said, Darren gave the young man side glances as he walked away, with high shoulders.

Darren forced a smile. After the cousins come and leave, he’d bundle Escanor over to the Princess.

At least, in there, he couldn’t just walk out to Goddess knows where. As a spoilt caged child, it always excited him to stroll about, but that’d be curtailed soon enough.

An hour later, Darren noticed the nudging in his mind link.

They must be here.

He sped out to meet them, before the warriors in Silent River will attack. They’d probably kill them since they were low ranked lycans

On getting to the entrance, he heard laughter. He saw a small girl jump to give a high five to a young man, Darren immediately identified him as Lycan.

Finn rushed to Darren. "Um... you told me to let them in, right?" he turned to the lycans. "They’re friendly."

Darren noticed the disbelief in the boy’s tone, probably because lycans were rarely friendly. He went ahead to the young man and young girl with the kids.

The young man frowned on seeing him, but it wasn’t a hostile frown. "You there! How could you take Escanor away a day before I could visit?"

Darren forced a smile. "He did come along with me...."

"Probably because you gave him no choice!" The girl chirped in, a ridiculous pout was on her face.

Darren exhaled, and gestured for them to follow him. He noticed the little children around them eating buns. "You gave them that?" he turned to the male lycan.

"Ah, yes. It’s my latest product." He beamed proudly. "And you should drop by my inn next time you come to High Moon. My pastas were also popular."

The way the man changed from scolding him to bragging and advertising proudly made Darren relax. Perhaps, they wouldn’t be a problem.

Another section of scolding started when they met Escanor. Darren left them since he wasn’t the one being scolded this time.

He returned to the living room, and took notice of a letter sitting on his table. It looked like it had been there for long.

He got closer and noticed they were more of similar designs. The owner must have sent multiple times.

Tearing it open, he read the addresser’s name. Sorren.

"I don’t think he should be sending me letters." Darren sighed, going to a seat. He didn’t remember being friends with that lycan to exchange letters.

However, his slight annoyance only increased to anger on reading the content. This Prince definitely knew he’d disagree and he’d have no way of knowing if he could.

So why then did he ask him a ’favor’ to ask the King’s and Queen’s alliance with Black Claws, or a werewolf pack under Black Claws, Black Thorns.

In the Prince’s words, it was help as allies, and compensation for not alerting them about the Green Valleys’ warriors last attack.

"I can see that you hold grudges." Darren tore the letter to pieces. "But I’m not planning to play in your hands."

After all, Silent River now had alliance with Damancas so even Sorren would hesitate before doing anything stupid.

Darren eyed the other letter before opening it. The contents were similar, apart from the addition of ’and hurry.’

Darren was now convinced that the Prince was only trying to annoy him. He smirked. Was the Prince so bored that sending random letters were his way of passing time?

He thought about indulging them, but brushed the thought off. He had better things to do. The Prince could try to misinterpret his words just to keep riling him up.

Someone barged into the room. "Darren, they will be staying here for a while. Can they take Ella’s room?"

Darren clenched his fists on the letter. Was that how to take permission to let him cousins stay? He already decided that they’d stay!

"Goddess, Escanor, if I don’t—"

"Okay, we’d use another room." Escanor slammed the door and left. Darren could hear his happy running steps. Like a child. A spoilt child. A stubborn child.

He quietly sat down on his chair, sipping his tea. He shouldn’t hit children.
