Chapter 183: Blind?
Chapter Hundred-Eighty-Three – Blind?
"He’s really strong though, just that, he’s blind."
Laurel withdrew her hand, snapping her head to Lisa. Her expression was one of disbelief.
How could he be blind?
Elder Uso, who slowly recovered his sight, noticed her expression and guffawed. "He’s useless, isn’t he? A blind slave who can’t do anything! And he looks like shit!"
Laurel looked back at the young man and notice he coiled himself rather timidly as Elder Uso spoke. She sighed, turning to the Elder with a defeated expression.
"You’re stupid beyond measure." She shook her head. "I was only surprised that a blind man nearly killed me. He’s really impressive to pull that off. I’m actually ashamed."
Jessika chuckled lowly. She knew that would be the reason for the Princess’ disbelief.
Even Jessika thought it impressive for a blind man to push her to a corner like that. It must be a natural talent.
Laurel looked back at the young man who had uncoiled himself. It must have been hard for him, being blind and being forced to serve a person like Elder Uso.
"Your sight is no issue. You have good understanding of your surroundings, you will make a formidable warrior."
The Elder slapped his hand on the table again and the girls walked out. Jessika helped the injured young man out of the room.
Laurel turned back as she left. "Two hours. Clear your belongings out of this place and leave Green Valleys or my warriors will come for you."
Elder Uso quickly rose to his feet, scampering for his belongings. Laurel closed the door, walking through the silent hall.
They was still an element of eerie within it even if a hole was in the wall. That hole will be Beta Ferdinand’s duty.
Laurel had noticed he had good leadership, like how he managed to survive with his servants under the grand hall.
Also, some of his female servants that stayed at Lisa’s, return because they rather serve their young master than be free.
Laurel thought, as long as he didn’t abuse them, he could definitely accept them back, but Valkyrie’s place wouldn’t be enough. So the Elders’ mansion will be given to him.
They didn’t see the Black Claws’ warriors by the gate and it made Laurel suspicious. She glanced at Jessika who nodded immediately.
"I’d send a report that those Black Claws Warrior’s were involved in attempted murder against Green Valleys’ Princess." She said.
"Add ’sent by Black Claws Elders’ too. And state that the culprit is already dead, okay?" Laurel wore a sly smile.
Jessika matched it and nodded.
Lisa and Jessika returned to the Lead Hunter’s place after dropping the injured young man at the Princess’ quarters.
The Princess began searching for more medicinal tea in her concoction boxes.
Little Mira joined her in the search, raising any bottle that looked pretty but they were mainly perfumes that had been twitched a bit by Laurel to become weapons.
"Ah, this." She raised a brown paste and hurried to the young man. This was her fault, even if she’d have died if she did nothing, so she wanted to correct it somehow.
"Tell me, what’s your name?" she asked as he rubbed the brown paste on his injured shoulder.
She hadn’t gotten a better view of his frame with the big cloak-ish garment on his body and the helmet and small cloth on his head. Was it a slave fit?
She only had skirts and dresses or she’d have given him something. Perhaps she’d ask the Beta if his servants can borrow him clothes till he feels better to buy what he likes.
Getting no response from him, she left the room where she let him stay and left to make tea.
She didn’t plan to babysit anyone, but she’d be patient since he probably had a traumatizing life before.
Few minutes later, Lisa returned with a needle. "Princess, the chain on his ankles. Can I unlock it—"
"Sure." Laurel shrugged.
She had forgotten about that. Could it be why he didn’t respond to her? She watched Lisa use a needle to pick on the lock. It was an interesting skill to have.
"Do you know his name?"
Lisa turned to the Princess and shook her head. "All I know is that, he’s been that elder’s slave for almost a year now. And Elder Uso bought him from Damancas."
Laurel’s lips parted. So there was a slave market at Damancas? No one could know how long he had been a slave then. She leaned towards him.
She tried to find his eyes but it was covered with a small white cloth that was stuck to his face with the helmet. She tried to take the helmet off but he moved, dodging.
"I hear he doesn’t let anyone take it off. They tried taking it by force but he screamed till it’s put back." Lisa sighed.
Laurel peered into his eyes covered with the cloth. She knew he was blind but did it help covering the eyes?
"Tea?" she placed it in front of him.
Surprisingly, he reached for it. The Princess turned to Lisa but Lisa didn’t seem to notice anything wrong.
Laurel felt something was wrong. She had read books out of boredom, and one was a blind character. That was what made her feel being blind should be synonymous to death, especially for a weak girl like her before.
And blind people couldn’t sense what’s in front of them, even if all their senses became sharper. He didn’t even search for the cup and directly reached for it.
"What do you want now?" she didn’t know why she asked. Perhaps she wanted to earn his trust.
He was a good warrior, and now, was claiming to be blind. It could be a way to avoid further responsibilities so she didn’t want to judge him.
He dropped the cup of on the bed he was on. Laurel leaned back, waiting for the reply. His hands stretched apart and Laurel leaned further back.
His voice was slightly deep yet young, and his request, absurd. "I want... a hug."
