Chapter 176: Self-sacrificing
Chapter Hundred-Seventy-Six – Self-sacrificing
(At Damancas)
Darren paced about in the hall as he waited for the King and Queen to arrive. The letter in his hands was the source of his annoyance.
After skillfully crafting an incriminating letter against that lycan, it turned out that who he submitted it to, the only official in charge of international notices, swatted it, with a silly stupid defense, leaving him boiling.
How could a lycan who went wild be said to be ’drunk’? How could it be that official’s reply to that!
And what should he do after a ’drunk’ lycan came into his pack, hurt a child and terrorized the peace?
Forgive the messenger and state how much gold he want in compensation! Like he’d trade justice for gold!
Darren’s fists clenched by his side.
Those High Moon officials must take all werewolves for jokes. Why would a messenger even be drunk while delivering his King’s message?
He quickly opened the letter and reread it, fury blaring in his eyes. It was ridiculous. It was all ridiculous.
The official’s defense for the lycan was that the message still reached Black Claws when the lycan felt sober.
Preposterous! Darren resisted the urge to shred the letter to pieces as the King and Queen are yet to read it. They should also see how dense High Moon think they were.
Were they supposed to just accept the reply like that?
The door by his right opened and the King and Queen walked out, laughing at something with each other.
Seeing them being happy quelled a bit of Darren’s anger. He even felt guilty that he’d be destroying the mood soon.
When they were seated, he bowed before them. "Hail the King! Hail the Queen! Reply has come from High Moon Kingdom concerning the last issue."
The King gestured to hand it to him and Darren obeyed. "I hope you slept well, Darren?" The Queen asked. Darren nodded, stepping back, but that was a half lie.
He had to stay at Damancas till the case makes headway, and he couldn’t help but worry about Silent River.
Thankfully, the pack wasn’t greatly involved in politics and still worked as a refuge camp. The people could live by themselves. Also, they were some wise ones there.
On the plus side, he had a nice room at Damancas, even if the scantily dressed maid-in-waiting was uncomfortable to be around but the soft bed calmed his nerves.
All in all, he’d like to solve the case and return to his pack.
The King sighed, after taking in the content of his letter. He shifted it to his wife to take a look. "Darren, it seems High Moon aren’t as careful as I thought."
Darren looked up. "What do you mean, your highness?"
The Queen’s eyes flared up as she threw the letter to the ground. "And we were being too careful!"
Darren couldn’t understand what they meant but he appreciated the anger burning in their eyes. The case was worth getting angry over.
High Moon just demeaned the report with alcohol like it’s no one’s business. "We should have directly accused them of making that drug!" The Queen spoke.
Her husband shook her head. "They could’ve denied it and made us the fools. It’s not easy to bring a King down."
"Then frame that messenger for wanting to use it on the King." The Queen looked up. "We can say Darren found it in his ownership and that he got it from us."
Darren stayed quiet as the two royalties contemplated.
The King raised a brow. "You think we should get into the mix? We weren’t directly involved in this, you know."
The Queen smirked.
Darren narrowed his eyes at her. They were talks of this side of the Queen. Self-sacrificing.
In fact, that was said about concerning all the Queens in Damancas’s recent history.
Like the one that had sacrificed herself to the first witches that came to Damancas, in return for the witches to stay in her kingdom and teach her people magic to protect themselves.
"How about I..."
"No," The King objected immediately, his eyes softening on his Queen, "You wouldn’t be involved either."
Darren smiled. They’ve also been talks that the current king, like the older ones, have been trying to correct that self-sacrificing nature of their Queens.
The Queen that had sacrificed herself to the witches will always be loved and respected but it didn’t mean all Queen must follow her footsteps.
"But what did you have in mind?" the King added.
The Queen wiped her pout and replied. "The drug could be said to have come from Damancas, given to the lycan to cause the King to go wild and die. I’d accept that I gave the lycan and strengthen Darren’s claim that the lycan had told him he planned to kill the King."
There was silence after she said that and the Queen went back to pouting. Her husband chuckled, slapping his thighs gently. "That is a good plan but let’s just call it dangerous and avoid it, okay?"
Darren quickly nodded. If she accepted it then whatever punishment the lycan would get, she would experience something similar.
What if that stupid King decided that she worked at the Kingdom for a while to cleanse her sins and then break her to become his test experiment?
Also the Queen of Damancas cannot stoop so low to have conspired with a common messenger.
That plan shouldn’t even be thought about again by the Great Queen of Damancas! It was inconceivable.
"Well, since we all have food for thoughts," the King faced Darren, "I’d ask that you go back now. When we have something else, we’d call for you."
Darren bowed. "I’d take my leave then." He exhaled, as he walked out of the hall and down the stairs.
On the way, he remembered that he was a guest specially to the second Prince and stayed within his quarters, at a little courtyard preserved for guests.
Darren didn’t understand why the King and Queen didn’t let him stay in a motel as he planned. That son of theirs was carnal in every way.
On opening the door to his courtyard, Darren paused, watching the two. The Prince never seized to surprise him, in fact, Darren actually wasn’t surprised.
His maid-in-waiting and the Second Prince were groping each other in a sexual wrestle.
The maid’s body were devoid of clothes and soon the Prince’s too. Her lips skillfully ravaged the Prince in an almost painful way.
"I must’ve sinned so greatly against the Moon Goddess," Darren walked up to them, "that I have to put up with this."
