Chapter 174: The Verdict and Punishment
Chapter Hundred-Seventy-Four – The Verdict and Punishment
Baxter’s eyes shifted to Dylan. "Your highness, you might be getting a little punishment."
Laurel kept her eyes on him, her face remaining indifferent. "Hmm, and why?"
The Lead Warrior nudged Dylan to speak up and the warrior took a step forward. "Well, you... you had hit the Beta’s sister and she filed a report... to the Alpha."
Laurel’s expression changed to contempt. The lady had filed a report to Stefan and he decided to punish her offender without proper investigation?
The guts of that lady to even report her to the Alpha. She must think everything must go her way. Laurel sighed, leaving her seat. Two can play that game.
"I’d make a report to the Alpha too, before receiving my punishment. How’s that, Dylan?"
The warrior kept his head down as the Princess marched to him. "S-Sure... I-I mean, what report do you want to—"
"A female lycan I do not know summoned me from my royal duties to escort her to the palace and demeaned my warriors, hereby demeaning the Alpha they serve."
Baxter gasped, poking Dylan. "That’s a serious report." He looked at the Princess. How did she turn a silly act by Lady Cara into a form of treason again at the Alpha.
Dylan was speechless. "I... I should report this now?"
"Yes. I have two witness too. The warriors who were abused. My actions too were to scold this lady from her sins so it’s only right, is it not?"
Dylan gulped down saliva. He’d never have been in the midst of all these if he didn’t lose his temper. And he’d never has lost his temper if that Lady had kept to herself.
He clenched his fists, looking up at Laurel standing in front of him. Since that Lady was trying to be whiny, he’d make notice invalid and generate issues for her.
"I’d do it."
He would? Baxter face palmed. Causing trouble for the Beta’s sister meant causing trouble for the Beta.
Laurel smiled. "Good. I hope the Beta will understand that law and order within a pack is more essential, in this scenario, than playing brother and sister."
Baxter’s mouth fell. This Princess really had no filter. He looked at Dylan, who still looked determined.
"I’d tell him."
The lead warrior held his knees for support? Dylan would tell the Beta that? He wanted to have his life shortened?
Laurel retuned to her seat. "Thank you, Dylan. I’d await the Alpha’s verdict and then, I’d take my punishment."
Dylan left the hall immediately and Baxter followed. He tried to match Dylan’s speed to advice him. "I know you are stuck with me because of Lady Cara but..."
"I can’t show my annoyance towards her because I’m just a warrior, but that Princess can, so I’d let her. Lady Cara was definitely at fault."
Baxter exhaled, giving up on advising him or convincing him to choose his life over revenge.
They reached the Alpha’s study and Dylan and Baxter bowed, waiting for permission to be given to them to speak.
The Beta was still with the Alpha, clearing out files that the Alpha had finished so it wouldn’t look like nothing had been done, thereby killing the Alpha’s will.
Stefan stared at the two. "Did the Princess accept her punishment? You should tell Lady Cara about it instead."
Dylan exhaled, before relaying the Princess’s reply and report, while that I was still in the air, he respectfully repeated the Princess’s words to Beta Cade, verbatim.
Baxter kept his hands behind him, tapping his feet while the silence lingered. He thought of leaving before he’d be sentenced to death alongside Dylan, but decided to stay, to see it through.
The Beta dropped the numerous files back on the Alpha’s table, the thud broke the silence. "You mean, she knew Cara was my sister when she hit her?"
Baxter shot his head up. Was that the only part that offended him?
Dylan kept his head bowed. "It’s likely, but she didn’t say so. She might have realized when I made the report."
Stefan folded his arms, actually finding the situation amusing. "You didn’t tell her the punishment, did you?"
Dylan shook his head. "She said I should report this and after your verdict, she’d accept her punishment."
Stefan nodded. This was just that mate of his being defensive.
Obviously, Cara wouldn’t add what she did wrong in her notice so he asked some warriors that were eyewitnesses to tell him.
On hearing it, his punishment to the Princess for hitting the Beta’s sister, was a week of coaching and lecturing the Beta’s sister about the way of Green Valleys’ to avoid such mistakes again.
Also, Stefan had it in mind to make Cara the representative of Green Valleys since she’d have free time after assigning the maids.
The role would surely frustrate the girl.
"My verdict in that effect, will be..." Stefan glanced at the Beta, who looked rather unbothered. "... that the Lady Cara spends one week learning about Green Valleys from the princess."
Dylan snapped his head up. Wasn’t that the same thing as the punishment of the Princess?
Why will the princess appreciate having to coach that whiny lady? It could only serve as a punishment?
"I-I should tell her that?" he asked to be sure.
"Why not. If she doesn’t like her verdict, she can take back her report and her punishment will also be revoked."
But Stefan was sure Laurel would accept both the verdict and punishment. With the temper he’d known her for, she’d take the chance to bully Cara as her student.
Dylan left the study hall, wondering if the Princess can make use of the opportunity to bully lady Cara.
He turned to Baxter, who raised his hand up. "Don’t ask me, I don’t know what the Alpha is thinking. He’s putting Lady Cara in the mouth of a tiger, and I can’t fathom why."
Dylan smiled, understanding that it wouldn’t favor Cara. He hurried back to relay the verdict to Laurel.
