Chapter 172: Anger Issues
Chapter Hundred-Seventy-Two – Anger Issues
The library was a place of wisdom, but also a place of relaxation for Stefan. He was already used to bearing the burdens of leadership alone.
He just needed a place to refill then return to his Alpha role. He swirled the page holder in his hands, in the form of a butterfly hairpin.
A gift from Jade, someone who shared a likeness for books like him. It was one of his attractions to her.
Recently, he had asked her guards to let her read to pass time. He still didn’t know what to do with her.
If she had hurt him that much, for not killing that cook, then if she knew Laurel was his mate, and he hid it from her all those time, she might do worse.
The door to the library opened, and Stefan sighed at the fact he had been spotted. It usually took two hours for Cade to find him anytime he goes in there.
He knew a library wouldn’t be his Beta’s first choice to look for him. "I hope I didn’t get a notice. Please, cancel."
Cade cornered to where the Alpha sat, he chuckled seeing Stefan’s both legs on the table and he was in a relaxed position. "It’s almost the end of day, you can—"
"That’s exactly why I should stop already." Stefan sighed. "Till tomorrow. But there’s no notice, right?"
Cade stared at the one in his hand. "I can handle this, but Cara had said to be given to you."
Stefan frowned. She arrived that day yet had submitted two notices to him already? "What does it say?"
The Beta tore the letter opened and checked its content. His face shifted through different emotions before settling on defeat. "I don’t know what she wants you to do."
As he dropped the letter on the table, Stefan noticed the small scar on his Beta’s arm.
Cade usually wore a sleeveless leather jacket so it was easy to keep tabs on the scars he got.
Stefan noted jokingly. "A pet?" But when he looked at it closely, it seemed like a knife cut and one that had gone really deep. "How did that happen?"
Cade closed his eyes, before answering. This will further speed up when his sister would be called for Sorren’s reckoning.
"Cara was hyperactive today and hit Sigma." He waited for the Alpha’s reaction but there was nothing.
He added, realizing that the Alpha might not be locked on Sigma, like Sorren. "Well, Dylan had tried punishing her for it... he unsheathed his sword but I got in the way. It’s just a little accident."
Stefan’s eyes remained on the scar.
"Just an accident, huh? Dylan unsheathed his sword to attack a defenseless lady and then hurt his Beta?"
Cade never saw it that way. Partly because hurting a defenseless lady wasn’t a big deal in his books, if they’re good reasons to. And from what happened, his sister was in the wrong.
"He apologized." He added, to defend the boy.
"To your sister?"
Cade shook his head. "To me. But she had hit Sigma, a Delta, and—"
"I’m sure Sigma wouldn’t mind being hit by someone like Cara. You said she was being hyper, right?"
Cade began rethinking everything. Sigma didn’t react to pain the way others did so the only dangers was Sorren’s reaction to the boy being hit.
Stefan sighed. "Dylan has anger issues, that’s what I mean. I thought Sorren corrected him."
Cade didn’t know how to reply. In his books, Dylan’s reaction was probably stemmed from what Sorren would do to him for watching Sigma hit.
But he appreciated the Alpha looking out for his sister when he couldn’t see a reason to.
He looked at the letter on the table and wondered if the Alpha would side with his sister again.
Stefan noticed his gaze and picked the letter, reading it. He dropped it, exhaling.
"Cara says she was physically abused by the Princess of Green Valleys for accidentally mistaking her for a warrior."
Cade shrugged. It’s probably a lie. Laurel’s attire stood out from her warriors who wore leather clothing. His sister must have wanted to rile her up then got beaten.
The Beta had heard stories from the warriors about them annoying the Princess and getting beaten. And all he could say was ’train harder to stand up to her’.
"It must’ve been a bad day for Cara today." Stefan dropped the letter back on the table. "And ask someone to get Dylan for me, please."
The Beta spaced out, contacting the closest guard to handle the message. "You will punish him?"
"I don’t know what Sorren told him about Sigma, but Sigma isn’t a child. Both Dylan and Sorren need to understand that." Stefan left his chair.
Finally, Alpha role took him from his comfort place. The warrior, Dylan, had been known to nearly kill some kids because they abused the Prince when he was younger.
Like Sigma, Dylan were amongst the kids taking in by the royal family after the war, because they were warrior’s kids. Dylan had latched onto Sorren during those times.
"If he’s not controlled, he could harm a member of Green Valleys. He’s not easily riled up but it’s still a problem." The Alpha said as he moved out of the place.
Outside the libraries block, he found Dylan rushing to him. The boy bowed on noticing him walking to him. "Alpha you called for me—"
"You’d have to stick with the Lead Warrior, only, for the next one week. I don’t want anyone spotting you with Sigma." He leaned close to the boy.
Dylan looked up, his eyes widening in disbelief.
He glanced at the Beta and quickly guessed what happened. It must be his act of unsheathing his sword against the Beta’s sister.
His eyes turning glossy. "Alpha..."
"I hope we have a deal?" Stefan raised his voice a little. "Sorren isn’t here anymore so but you and Sigma need to grow up and be responsible."
He’d known those two personally for fifteen years and they always followed Sorren like baggage.
Cade stared at the boy, whose shoulders had dropped to his knees. He sort of pitied him.
