Chapter 151: Brush With Death

Chapter Hundred-Fifty-One – Brush with Death

(High Moon Kingdom)

For a week, it’s been on his mind. And with it, came the excitement. Lycans with magic. The moon goddess couldn’t stop surprising him.

"King Asher?"

Asher turned to the court lady with a smile, "Yes?"

She blushed, looking away. "I-I asked a question. Which one do you think would be good on you—"

"What do you think?" he left where he sat, strolling towards the laces of golden thread sent to the palace.

Apparently as King, he should change clothes quite often. Asher found it quite inconvenient since some clothes held memories from his time as an avid scientist.

"I think this one is good." The court lady raised a red lace. "Red looks..." she hid her blushed cheeks, "... really good on you, your highness."

The King hummed then shrugged. "Red then." He waved. "I leave the King’s court to you then, Fifi."

She smiled, bowing her head. "Yes, your highness." And her new nickname pleased her so she added, silently. "Thank you."

Asher slipped out of his Kingly wears and threw it on a guard. "Now, to the lab to finish another masterpiece."

After hearing Nene’s report, his mind had been on creating a drug that’d make the lycans vulnerable. His result didn’t really prove the point, but it’s the fun part.

"And Nene said one of them had Heat Magic, right?"

That was a rare. Offensive magic weren’t common. The most common magic were barrier, paralysis, healing and teleportation magic.

Teleportation and Paralysis could be used offensively but with speed and agility most lycans could avoid it. The rare magic were a death sentence to lycans.

He reached Snow Top Mountain and cheerfully strolled in. At least, he didn’t have those smelly Fang members huddled in his lab.

Their death brought about a detailed report from Nene, and even gave Nene few weeks of trauma that she no longer bothered him.

"I’d really like to meet one of them. Who knows, I might actually go all out after a long time." He said, holding his cheeks in gleeful anticipation.

But that’d be hard to do.

As King, his whereabouts had to be accounted for, so he couldn’t run to Lunaria’s border to fight bred lycans.

"So caging."

He reached his lab and took the liquid out from the cooling box it had been in, the bottle had grown too cold and would’ve broken and leaked if he didn’t arrive.

He frowned at Slime sleeping by the side. It had been his duty to watch the drug but he couldn’t be very dependable.

"If only I had test werewolves for these." He licked the bottom of the bottle, there was no crack yet.

"Your highness." Slime groaned, with one eye open.

"The wolves are ready?" Asher gathered some syringes.

Slime forced himself off the chair. "Yes. I caught about six. Natural wolves are harder to control than I thought."

Even better. Asher laughed, as he walked out of the lab. Slime followed. They ventured into the forest and Slime directed the Alpha to where he caged the wolves.

A cave, deep under a waterfall. Asher stared at the waterfall momentarily before dropping his lab instruments on the ground, and sitting there.

Slime panicked, looking around. "A King shouldn’t sit on the ground. I should have brought your throne as we left."

Asher frowned at him. Did he know how stupid he’d look carrying a throne into the forest? "Sit, Slime."

The lycan placed his butt down immediately.

Asher focused on the drug. He filled syringes with it and handed them to Sigma. The lycan tried injecting it on himself but paused when Asher glared at him.

"Don’t waste my drugs, Slime. I’d not condone that."

Slime shook on his gaze, smiling widely, he nodded.

The King retrieved the drugs from him and stood up. "I’d do it myself. Slime, stand back and under no circumstance will you come close to me."

Slime held his chest. "I-I’m sorry for trying to inject myself—"

"It’s not about that. Just stand back."

Slime left the ground, moving away from the King with fallen shoulders. "Yes, your highness."

Asher walked into the deeper part of the cave, low growls came from the darkness. He could see perfectly within it and he knew the wolves could too.

"Just stay still and it wouldn’t hurt." He ordered, his eyes shifting to the shade of a bleeding sun.

The natural wolves stayed calm, as per his command. He squatted by two, injecting the syringe into them.

The wolves became restless, shaking their heads before growling loudly, baring their fangs at him.

The King grinned. The first one jumped on him, aiming for his head. The rest joined, sending him down, and gnawing at his neck.

Slime stood far, inclining his ears to hear what’s going on in the darkness. He frowned on getting the wolves’ growl, then got more worried when he heard biting sounds.

He could sense the intense blood lust coming from those natural wolves, it must be the effects of the drug on them.

"King Asher?" he called, but he got no reply.

He took a step towards the cave but remembered the King’s clear orders not to stand back. In that case, the King must have expected the reaction.

But the nauseating smell of blood came. It only nauseated him because he could guess who owned the blood.

His legs became weak and he slid to the ground. Should he really still stand back? What if the King had created a drug that abound his control?

"King Asher, are you okay? Say somethi—"

Slime heard the whimper of a wolf, then slash and cutting sounds rapidly. He found strength to stand up again.

Asher walked out of the cave, with bloody marks on his body and a bite on his head. Streams of blood streamed from his sides too.

Slime shook visibly. "K-K-King Asher... wha-what happened—"

A psychotic grin appeared on Asher’s face. "The drug worked. You won’t believe how aggressive the wolves were. Even a powerful lycan could’ve a brush with death."

A brush with death? Slime stopped shaking. His lips curving downwards.

Could it be the King let himself be attacked to know how aggressive the wolves were?

"Your highness, that was dangerous." Slime said. "You could have used me. That’s why I’m here, right?"

"Didn’t you hear me? The brush of death part." Asher’s wounds slowly disappeared. "Either way, this was good exercise. Life as King is boring anyway." He smiled.
