Chapter 142: A Young Beta

Chapter Hundred-Forty-Two – A Young Beta

Laurel finished writing a ’thank you’ letter to the King and Queen of Damancas, for their gifts and encouragement.

She exhaled, wiping off the sweat beads on her head. Only writing a letter had made her overthink so much.

She was writing to very important persons anyway, every stroke and curve mattered.

"Wanna go on a run, Elma?" she jumped from her seat.

She was free to do as she liked now, even if time wasn’t abundant like before. She had to still take care of herself somehow.

Her wolf gave no reply so she slumped back on the chair. "Your fur color? It shouldn’t bother you too much."

"It does." Elma confessed. "If someone sees it, you’d have to give explanation and you don’t know what to say."

An explanation wasn’t necessary, Laurel left her seat again. "I can choose what I answer, Elma. Also, I can honestly say it’s the moon goddess’ gift to me."

She wasn’t a normal werewolfess. First, she had that gift that could help her get memories while unconscious or asleep.

And then, she’s her mother and father’s daughter.

Having an unusual fur color might mean something positive, it was natural. She pushed the door open and walked out, she noticed it slammed back loudly.

She waited for crying from the twins, Mira and Marino, but heard nothing. She exhaled and opened the next door gently.

"Princess!" Lisa ran to her with a letter. "Valkyrie carried an injured Lycan back to the Alpha’s palace. Did she tell you about it?"

Laurel froze. Injured lycan? She heard nothing about it, but it’s Valkyrie they were talking about, she had good reasons to hurt a Lycan so it worried the princess.

Still, she trusted Valkyrie not to cause trouble especially now that the focus of Green Valleys was maintaining peace and getting a battle force.

"The letter?" Laurel stretched her hand.

Lisa wondered why she didn’t worry, she dropped the letter on her palm. "It’s a letter of congratulations from an ally pack. Haven’t heard of it before."

The princess opened it. Rolling Stones Pack? Unusual and unheard of. The Alpha’s name sounded feminine. Laurel smiled, walking out with it. "Thanks, Lisa."

Lisa made an ’hmm’ sound, still worried about Valkyrie’s situation. She brushed it off since the princess was calm.

The princess discarded the letter after reading its contents, she’d have to start another wrenching task of writing a reply later.

She hurried to the separated quarters where Ferdinand and his male servants stayed. They were four separate quarters within the courtyard, with many rooms in each.

The princess currently occupied one, Valkyrie another, and Beta Ferdinand, the third. Laurel slowed down on seeing the makeover the Beta’s quarter had undergone.

Few days ago, she heard the Beta had asked Valkyrie’s permission to make the quarters his, she had agreed.

Flowers were planted in a sword format, at the entrance. Small curved swords were tied to the roof like lanterns.

And the blue paint the Lead Warrior’s quarters had, the Beta’s part had red, with different colored swords drawn on the walls.

It looked like a school for sword training than a Beta’s quarter. Laurel chuckled. Was this his idea of making it his? It was sort of childish, like him.

He really inherited the sword obsession from his father.

"Where is your Young Mas—"

"Princess!" the male servants lowered their heads.

Laurel tried bowing back before she realized she wasn’t supposed to. She resisted the urge to tell them not to bow ever again. It’s courtesy. "Where’s Beta Ferdinand?"

The youngest opened the door in front of her, his head still lowered. "He’s having afternoon tea, your highness."

Afternoon tea? Laurel rushed in.

The twelve year old was seated in a cushioned throne-like-couch, having two maids serve him tea, while the other fanned him with a feathered fan.

Laurel exhaled. How exactly would this spoiled Young Master help as Beta? She planned to talk to him about the exportation but it could be much for a twelve year old.

"Can we go on a walk? I’d like to speak on exportation."

As she spoke, the maids took notice of her and lowered their heads. Ferdinand handed his cup of tea to one of them and left his seat.

He lowered his head. "Sure, your highness."

Courtesy coming from him felt fake but Laurel excused it. "We’d also be seeing your sister."

She studied his expression. Nothing.

"If you wish, your highness." came his reply. Why would she wish to see Frida? She only wanted to for his sake.

She walked out of the room. The male servants bowed again, till she was out of sight. It was bothersome.

She found Ferdinand behind her, dressed differently. Did he have to change clothes to see his sister too?

"Frida had been looking for you." She started.

He said nothing, then looked up when she didn’t add to it. "Did she say what she wanted with me?"

What the hell would she want with him if not to know if he was safe? Frida might be horrible but Laurel had no record of her being a bad older sibling.

Lena usually told her how Frida supported her brother’s condescending attitude to the servants and Laurel termed them birds of the same feather.

"When did you plan to see her?" Laurel asked again.

He closed his eyes. "I deem myself busy, so I’d have waited for her visit. Also, I have no idea where she is."

Laurel stared at him, before shaking her head. "Hurry up." She said, then sped past the border.

The Black Claws warriors noticed the form that sped past but weren’t sure what passed. Then they found a young boy causally walking out.

"Hey, do you have permission from your leader to move out?" one of them asked Ferdinand.

"I do." He said, without sparing them a glance.

The warrior tried holding him back, but he glared at him, his eyes burning in subtle orange, a feature only meant for a Beta. "Keep those things to yourself."

The warrior retracted his hands, and Ferdinand continued walking in his pace. The warriors looked at each other, hoping to see disbelief in their eyes.

That little boy was a Beta ranked wolf? Was he even old enough to shift? How were the Green Valleys’ werewolves built?
