Chapter 141: Survive

Chapter Hundred-Forty-One – Survive

"You bitch! Did you kill her?!"

This will be a fail if that innocent werewolfess got killed. Again, he couldn’t protect another person and Lady Jade might be recaptured again.

He was aware he needed training, after all, at the pack they’ve been at, they were treated as guests who didn’t do anything nor train.

He only wanted to be the lead warrior to honor his uncle. He was well aware he didn’t have what it’d take yet.

His clenched fists tightened. But he wouldn’t be losing against rogues that were selfish and knew nothing about protecting others!

"Since you don’t answer me, I’d beat the answer out of you." He said, blood sliding down the corner of his lips.

Jade had a hard time staying conscious. One look at the redhead that tormented her and she felt her body break down.

She fell to the ground, giving in to the pain and dizziness that she felt all over her body.

The rogues slowly crawled to Baxter. Since they were with no swords, he felt his confidence come back.

All he had to do was tear and rip them apart. They were lower ranked werewolves so it shouldn’t be a hassle.

Contrary to her belief, Frida saw Baxter rush towards the rogues, stabbing his claws into their insides. She jumped back as another was thrown to her direction.

"The swords slowed him down." She scoffed. She sacrifices her father’s prized swords to be smeared on wolfsbane just to kill this lycan.

She had been expecting Cade but whoever they sent was okay, she knew they wouldn’t send a normal warrior.

The rogues were remnant from the ones the Alpha had killed so they wanted revenge as much as she did.

She might have manipulated them a little but it was all to their own benefit. She felt for the charm on her waist and exhaled when it was still there.

Master Darren had told her it’d hide her scent. As usual, he didn’t support her plans but will do nothing if she insisted.

Few minutes later, she found that the lycan had beaten down eight rogues. Their bodies were discarded on the ground.

Frida frowned, she didn’t really expect rogues to beat a lycan in close combat anyway.

She caught sight of Jade passed out. She was done taking her anger on the bitch, but an idea came to mind.

She grinned wickedly, raising the spear. "You should defend your prize, Lycan!" she shouted.

Baxter saw her from the corner of his eyes. He wouldn’t catch it in time so he let it stab at his sides.

He drew it out immediately and blood pumped out of his body. He held the spear, for support, as his knee fell to the ground. His body could no longer move.

Blood seeped from different parts of his body, including the minor injuries he got from the rogues. His vision was getting blurry.

"Finally, I’d be killing one of you." Frida came closer.

This one wasn’t as strong as those two that defeated Green Valleys last warriors but it was something.

Those Lycans needed to experience failure too.

Baxter noticed her getting closer, he fell back, sitting on his legs. Even if he died here, he’d complete this test then die as a lead warrior.

"What are you thinking?" he sighed at himself. "I can’t die here. I still have to make it up to Sigma for leaving him with that Sorren." He held the spear. "I’m not dying here."

The two rogues ran to him, their claws elongated.

He twirled the spears, forcing himself to stand and swing it at their necks. They fell in front of him.

Frida froze, then forced her body to run back. How was he still moving with all that blood? She gritted her teeth.

These lycans were monsters! And she had no other weapon to make good damage on him.

"Where’s the female lead warrior?!" Baxter shouted at her. "That werewolfess." he staggered but held unto the spear. "Is she another captive of yours?"

Frida frowned, turning away from him. Will she have to go back? Was there no way to finish this?

Valkyrie was close and if they both fought, they will surely take him down but Valkyrie was unwilling to get directly involved.

"I’d have to make do with beating him up this badly." She seethed. "It’s not nearly enough but that’s all I can do."

She mustn’t hurt herself, nor reveal her identity. She did work on Jade and she probably forgot her name by now.

Jade being a hostage will bring attention to Master Darren and that shouldn’t happen. She turned to the Lycan, she knew he was still alert, despite being on his knees.

"We’d meet again." She huffed, before running off.

Baxter tried to regulate his breathing but with the blood leaving him, his panic only rose. This was his first brush with death and he didn’t have anyone to say goodbye to.

All he could do was sit there, protecting Lady Jade. He couldn’t complete the test by sending her back. His senses had dulled too. Anything could sneak on him.

Valkyrie stood behind him, without his notice. Her claws were outstretched and she contemplated striking him.

But then, he knew she was the lead warrior and he said that the Alpha told him to go with the lead warrior.

The case will still be traced to her. Also, where he died, was in front of their Beta’s property.

He didn’t know but if someone saw his body there and reported back, any of their pack members could betray them and tell who owned it.

The death of their lead warrior will then be seen as a work of Green Valleys. Valkyrie needed to avoid that, for Laurel’s sake.

The Green valleys warriors had already tormented her by dying unnecessarily, let there be no unnecessary death again.

She tried holding him but he fell face down. He finally fainted. She sighed, picking her spear up.

It was now smeared with the dirty blood of rogues and this Lycan. How would she carry him and Jade back?
