Chapter 140: Panic
Chapter Hundred-Forty – Panic
Why didn’t he sense anything before the sword got buried in his insides? Baxter pushed the girl back and pointed the sword at her.
They were in equal positions now. She’s tired with a sword and he was injured with a sword.
He’d be handling it quickly, because the blood spilling from his side will surely tire him out.
She lunged at him but he dodged it and slashed her arm with his sword, not deep enough.
He noticed his hands begin to tremble. The effects of the wolfsbane had started. He had to finish this quickly.
The girl shouted as she lunged at him again, but he parried and rose her sword to her neck.
Panic flashed in her eyes as he pressed the sword to her neck and her blood sprayed on her face, she fell limply to the ground.
Baxter held his hand with the other. Blood wasn’t circulating properly anymore. He looked ahead. Should he keep going or fall back and ask for help?
Someone screamed, a female. Baxter couldn’t tell if it was Jade but he ran ahead. He couldn’t abandon this test or he will fail, and that’s one thing that can’t happen.
He ran past a figure in the shadows and slowed down, standing in a defensive stance, tightening his grip on his sword. He couldn’t catch the scent of whoever.
Was it a ghost or soul living in the cave? He waited for it’s move, but it ran into the shadows.
With it’s heavy footsteps, Baxter thought it should be living person. He continued deeper into the cave.
There was a light at a route he cornered too.
"Lady Jade!" he called, his voice vibrated within the cave’s walls and that worried him. His position will be revealed to others.
He marched towards the light, his breath came out heavily. Could it be Lady Jade wasn’t in here? Had it been a trap after all? The Alpha wouldn’t have any way to know.
His hands went to his stabbed stomach. He still had time before his body will become immobile. He caught the scent of another rogue and exhaled. "Come."
He sighted the sword flying to his face before the leg coming to his face. He slapped down the sword with his own and grabbed the leg.
In one swift movement, he slammed the person to the wall and dropped them. They weren’t dead but they wouldn’t come after him so soon.
"Lady Jade!" he called again.
At the end of the route, there was a large hole above the cave. He got tricked, he clicked his tongue, rushing back to where he started from. "This cave seem like a maze."
A loud thud came from behind him. Something fell from the hole above the cave. "Lady Jade?" He stooped to the sack that fell from the hole.
Untying it, he found her, in a crying mess. It broke him, seeing her white blonde hair disheveled like that.
He stood up, looking above him. The rogues had gone outside? His mind went to the werewolfess outside.
He attempted running back but paused. "Lady Jade, come with me. I’m Baxter, lead warrior of Black Claws Pack, and I’m here—"
His face was slapped, he looked away from her.
"If you are here to save me then do it immediately!" Jade yelled. Why the hell will she care who he was? Did he have the slightest idea what she’s been through?
Baxter nodded. "Yes," he attempted carrying her but she slapped his hand away. He frowned. He didn’t have all day, his stomach still bled.
"Follow me then. There’s someone else in danger." He remembered the werewolfess again and hurried away.
Jade struggled to get to her feet, cursing him for leaving her. She stood up, but her legs bent and she cried, falling back to the ground.
Baxter came running back. Her condition was terrible. Her leg was sprained and her skin had been brutally lashed.
One of the rogues must have a personal issue with her.
"Let me carry you." He didn’t like seeing her like that.
She let him and he hurried out of the cave with her on his back. His legs froze on seeing them. Two more rogues, pointing swords at them.
He had hoped they were waiting for him outside, so he could get Lady Jade to the werewolfess and face them squarely.
"So useless! Shouldn’t you have killed them all before coning for me?" Jade shouted on his head.
He ignored, carefully placing her on the ground. He had dropped his sword while carrying the Lady so it wouldn’t hurt her, now he had no weapon.
The rogues advanced to him, being careful of his next movement. Baxter reached for a large rock. The rogues still kept their distance.
He threw it at them, as distraction and they fell for it. Their eyes went up and they took a step back.
"Good." They heard below them. The last things they saw were the claws that slashed their face, blinding their eyes.
Raising his hand, the blood dripped from his claws. They cried out, staggering back. Their swords fell from their hands and Baxter caught it, slashing their throats with it.
A confident smirk rose to his lips but he gagged out blood, fear engulfed him on the realization that his body was reaching its breaking point.
The wolfsbane spread slowly because it wasn’t much but its effect still remained.
"Now, why are you vomiting blood?" Jade scowled.
What type of weak bastard was he that spat out blood over a little fight? Why was such a wolf sent to her?
But Baxter misinterpreted her words as worry. He smiled. "Don’t worry, Lady Jade. I’m fine and I’d take you out."
He carried her on his back again, breathing in and out, before rushing to the front. This time, he held a sword to avoid being unarmed when next he saw an enemy.
He found some of the rogues he defeated as he passed, the one unconscious stayed down. He felt relieved.
The red hair fellow who stabbed him hadn’t come for a rematch. Such a cowardly fighter. He reached the entrance, and his legs stopped.
Jade whimpered, wanting to return to the cave on seeing her. Frida stood in front of them, her face covered with a small cloth. She held the spear Valkyrie had.
With her were ten more rogues, without swords. Baxter recognized the spear with the red fellow. He looked around and didn’t see the wolfess who had it before.
His fists clenched and he dropped Jade to the ground, harshly. "You bitch! Did you kill her?!"
