Chapter 136: Baxtard

Chapter Hundred-Thirty-Six – Baxtard

Sorren dropped the hand running through his hair, he turned to him. "Well, hello, Baxtard. Long time."

He squinted his eyes on seeing the boy’s long blonde hair had reduced to his ears length. "And you look worse than I remember." He flung his long hair to his back.

Baxter strolled to the Prince, swinging a sword in hand. He had a tall frame, with muscular arms and legs.

"I will give it to you." He nodded at his words. "You actually looked better than when we last met but it’s probably because you did nothing, like always."

If he had joined the last war, then he must have gotten his first scar, but his skin was still smooth like a baby’s.

"Indeed." Sorren agreed. "Still, that’s no way to talk to your Prince. A head bow and greeting should come first."

Baxter huffed, coming in front of Sorren. "You are just few months older than me. Don’t expect me to glorify you just because you are the King’s son."

"Shouldn’t that be why you should glorify me?" Sorren sighed. Like Sigma, this one didn’t care about ranks and spoke as he liked. But then, he was all bark, unlike Sigma.

Baxter continued his taunts. "And I hear you’d be in charge of this place? Can you really handle it?"

Sorren looked up. He barely had any leadership skills and mainly forced or manipulated others to do his bidding. But it shouldn’t be that way with his own people.

"Good question. If I have to lead idiots like you for long, I’m afraid my brain will rot. I have no choice though."

Baxter smirked. "Still sharp tongued, eh?"

"Still stupid?"

They glared at each other for a while.

Sorren smirked, looking away. "Still have that passionate one-sided love for Jade?"

Baxter frowned. "I grew out of that, you idiot."

"Oh. Why? You have a chance now."

Was he mocking him? Baxter shook his head. He was aware Jade engaged the Alpha so he wouldn’t try getting excited over nothing.

"How’s my cousin?"

That was an unexpected change of topic. Sorren glanced at the young man. "Since when did you care?"

The major reason he wanted Dylan to be with Sigma, was to gauge his interaction with Sigma. Dylan disliked Baxter so would naturally steer Sigma away from him.

"Since you made him leech on you and then, he started avoiding me!" Baxter said with gritted teeth.

Sorren paused. Was he jealous? An amused smile came to his face. So Baxter was a tough love kinda guy?

Because to Sigma, Baxter was a bully who never let him do anything by himself.

Sigma saw it as he thought he was useless but, perhaps, it could be overprotective instincts.

Baxter turned away. "I also heard I’d be going over there, and since you’d be stuck here, I’d ’un-train’ him from all the nonsense you have taught him."

Sorren’s smile faded. He exhaled. "Just don’t ever hit him."

The lycan frowned. "Why will I—"

"And make sure Cade doesn’t either." Sorren smiled again, turning to him. "That’s my order to you. Fail, and die."

Die? Baxter backed away. Wasn’t that much for hitting Sigma? What’ll be Cade’s punishment then? "I-I’d protect my cousin if he’s in danger, I don’t need your order."

Dylan returned to them, panting. "I am ready to go."

The two Lycans stared at the heavy bags and belongings in the boy’s hands. He literally had all his life’s belongings with him at that point.

"Um...Cade just decided it today." Sorren deadpanned. "It might change and all so don’t get too excited and wait."

Dylan’s shoulder fell, he looked distressed but he forced words out. "F-Fine. Sorry... I’d go back now."

Sorren returned his gaze to Baxter. "Go and make yourself useful, you might actually get sent there so finish up here."

Baxter scoffed, walking away. "I said don’t order me."

Finally alone, Sorren exhaled, then met the gaze of the one who’d be looking at him from far away. He noticed the person looked away when they made eye contact.

That gaze was awfully curious, like the person knew him and expected them to know him too. But he couldn’t even place where he’d seen such strange eye colors.

"Well, for one thing, they have an interesting feature." He left where he sat and strolled towards the lycan.

He walked silently to attract less attention, but he still noticed some men working, pause and stare at him.

He reached the house, almost at the end. He wondered why he could feel the stare from over here. Such intensity.

He reached the man, and peered into his face. Different eye colors, blue and hazel. It’s a beautiful combination.

"So, what do you want?" Sorren asked, breaking the awkward silence. It shouldn’t seem like he only walked the mile just to stare at him. They should converse.

The men held Sorren’s gaze, then smiled, closing his eyes as he did. "I hoped you’d recognize me."

Sorren knew he was supposed to, but this time, it wasn’t the fault of any old age creeping on him.

The man just had a feeling to him, not a face. "Let’s start with a name then."

"Right. Conrad." The man opened his eyes, hopefully. "Remember something? I served your—"

"Dark Past, huh?"

The man’s smile fell. "Well... I’m called that... too."

So this was the man Cade spoke about? The one who could be trying to take the kingdom from Stefan and who caused the death of Stefan’s friend.

Sorren frowned slightly. Oddly, he didn’t feel threatened by the man and he really knew when to feel threatened.

Perhaps, it’s because he wasn’t the man’s target, Stefan was. That was, if he really wanted to take the Kingdom.

"The last time I saw you, was fifteen years ago. Someone mentioned you recently and that’s the only reason I remember." He paused. "I guess I remembered the name though. The person never mentioned your name."

"I’m happy someone know my actual name around here." Conrad smiled again. "I was asked to come to your bro... the Alpha," He corrected, "to help the warriors."

Sorren shrugged. He really didn’t feel a threat from the man but he did seem sketchy.

Maybe his continuous smiles, that seemed unwarranted, were putting him off.

But in a way, he seemed like an adult trying to befriend a child, with the random smiles.

Sorren looked away from him. Literally, the man would be a decade older than him, so it’d make sense why he’d try to communicate with him like a child.

His last memory of him would be the five year old Sorren, who probably avoided him, so he was trying to be friendly.

"Oh, sorry, I must have bored you." Conrad sighed.

Sorren met his gaze, looking at his eyes again. "I’m going to be here for a while. If you want to talk, you can visit."

Conrad paused before nodding. "Sure, thank you."
