Chapter 132: Abominations

Chapter Hundred-Thirty-Two – Abominations

The explosion blinded Victoria’s sight, she tried running into the smoke but Nene dragged her back, choking on the contaminated air.

"Witches! Witches! They are here!" Victoria screamed to the other Fang members. Her heart raced while her mind wondered. How had they been caught?

Could she still have her scent as a witch? Surely not, she had worked hard to remove it and only Lycans trained to hunt witches will be able to catch her scent.

Then, who notified them of their presence? And how in goddess’ sake are witches in Lunaria?! Lunaria hates witches and Lycans. What the hell was happening?

Nene pulled the girl and hid behind a boulder, breathing sharply. This was a fail. If they got caught as they got in, then all Lunaria’s bred Lycans will be after them.

"I have to fall back! I must return to my brother!" she peeked to check for the others but the smoke was still everywhere.

Victoria wriggled in her hold. "I have to go and save the others! Let me go, Nene, please!" she stood up. "If they are injured, I have to heal them quickly."

The smoke began to dissipate. Nene stood up with Victoria. Surely, someone survived, she hoped. It was a surprise attack but someone must have survived.

As the smoke slowly shifted, Nene narrowed her eyes at the spot the rest were but her eyes widened to see no one there. Did they all dodge? All seven of them?

Then she saw them, with weapons drawn out, waiting for the enemy, behind the smoke that slowly floated away.

"Ah! That’s Fang for you!" Victoria’s mood changed and she jumped gleefully. "What made you think such cheap trick will work on these fine assassins?"

Nene exhaled. She must have forgotten how tough they were, back at Fang. Their boss usually called them undying cockroaches, it was the highest compliment.

"Aww! Brother! I told you it won’t work!"

Nene became pale as he heard the voice. She pulled Victoria and hid behind the boulder again but they could still see what went on below them.

The air around them changed, it almost became hard to breathe, like a predator just came in front of them.

From the Lunaria border, a tall lady, wearing black shorts and a cropped leather vest, slid down the cliff holding a large axe. "And they are seven of them? Eight?"

Nene held Victoria’s lips as she gulped on hearing ’eight?’. Those Lycans aren’t supposed to notice the witch or could it be her they sensed, from her distance?

"How convenient!" the Fang leader held up his scythe. "Lorena! One of our targets just walked up to us." He told the rest.

They pointed their weapons at her, despite the slight tremble their hands made. They instinctively knew the Lycan standing before them was no easy one.

Yet, it was the thrills of their job, cutting down the strong.

Nene wondered if it’d only be seven versus one. That should be an easy win, right?

But she felt unsettled with the smirk on Lorena’s face. And where did that explosion come from?

Just as her thoughts ran, the explosion came again but it missed the Fang members by an arm’s length and nearly blew down the cliff Nene and Victoria hid.

Timely, Nene shifted to another cliff. This was bad. Will those explosions serve as distraction for Lorena?

"Brother! I said stop, didn’t I? It doesn’t work!" Lorena shouted. "These ones aren’t ants, they are a little tougher." She gripped her axe. "Like cockroaches."

Another figure came from the Lunaria border. A tall young man with long hair that covered half of his face. He adjusted his gloves, then kept both hands on his waist.

"Fang, huh?" He shook his head. "None, good looking."

The Fang leader scowled, before raising his head. "The goddess must be with us. She brought the second target, Levine, to us again. We should finish this!"

The two of them? Nene frowned, sensing something terribly wrong. Why did the two bred Lycans they were sent to kill, meet them at the border?

How did they know Fang will come for them?

"Brother," Lorena turned to Levine, that walked towards her. "How amazing will it be when we tell Zeno that only the two of us ended the legendary Fang. Ha! So funny."

Her eyes glowed red and half of Fang took a step back.

Nene shivered in her hiding spot. She was Alpha ranked! Her aura was heavy. Was that why she was so confident? Still, they seemed to be more.

"I have killed lots of Alphas!" the Fang Leader came forward, his eyes burning in a steady orange.

Nene’s jaw dropped seeing the leader already climbed to Beta rank. She relaxed. With his experience and rank, even Lorena should be a cinch. The other members felt the same and came forward with their leader.

Lorena stooped low, stretching her axe, ready to cut.

But at that point, Levine took off his gloves. "Let’s try it again, Lorena!"

Lorena immediately jumped away from him.

Nene saw it. Fear seeping into her heart as she did.

Levine’s palm glowed red, like it was heating up, he pointed it at the confused Fang members. "Boom!" The glow left his hand and sped to the Fang members.

Timely, they jumped from the spot. One was caught in it but only sustained minor damage. Yet the injury slowly burned corroding her skin till it stopped.

The rest escaped but were glued to the ground. What just happened? Lycans using magic? That’s was heat magic, wasn’t it? They had so much questions.

Lorena clicked her tongue, then used her fists to hit her brother’s back. "Don’t you listen, Levine. It doesn’t work. Leave magic out of this and fight like a man. Sheesh."

Nene slowly slid to the ground. So these were bred lycans? This must be why very few bred lycans have ever been seen or killed.

They were witch-werewolf-lycan. In a word, abominations. This was will be more than a fail. It’d be their execution.
