Chapter 128: The neverending hall
Chapter Hundred-Twenty-Eight – The never-ending hall
The people gathered around Laurel as she strolled towards the grand hall. Laurel laughed.
Didn’t they say the place was haunted, why did they look curious to know what’s in it?
Since they realized it was given to Sir Deon by the Beta, it probably made them wonder if hidden swords were kept inside, because the late Beta obsessed over swords.
She put the key inside the lock and twisted it, there was an opening sound and then a thud. Laurel backed away.
The door rang strangely, then opened by itself. If not that Laurel stood in front of it, she’d have assumed the white light that shone in the middle was the sun’s reflection.
But there’s no way it could be the sun because it’s evening and she blocked any direct sun light. Strangely again, the inside of the hall was pitch dark.
Laurel noticed a lit candlestick behind her, she turned and took it from Lisa. "Thank you, no one should follow me for now." Lisa nodded, and backed away.
The Princess breathed in and out before strolling in, keeping her senses alert. Elma came closer to help her smell for any rotting corpse.
The more she walked in, the farther the hall stretched. She turned back and still found the door opened with Lisa and the people peeking in.
Seeing the distance the princess had covered, Lisa began to wonder how far in the hall was.
She looked at the exterior and it didn’t seem so big. To her, it had gone past the width of the building’s exterior.
Laurel noticed Lisa’s expression and gulped down nothing. This was strange but it should have an end.
She lifted the candlestick above head and all she saw was darkness and more path ahead.
Then it clicked, the chamber that Sigma brought her into recently. The path had gone on and on in darkness till they reached the curtain that revealed another room.
Holding her dress up, Laurel sprinted forward. "No matter how far it’d go, even if it takes an hour, I must get to the other side and rescue—" her face jammed a wall.
It stopped? She turned to the door but she could barely see it. It probably wasn’t as far as the one Sigma took her into. "Well, that was uneventful."
She looked back at the wall and felt for it. There should be an opening somewhere. Then, she felt a door knob.
Her heart tightened at the realization that she need the key she left at the door. Would she need to run back?
She groaned, hitting her head on the wall but it suddenly moved. She stepped back as it revealed another inner dark room.
She sighed, at least, she didn’t need to run back for a key. She raised the candle light above her head again.
The grand hall definitely had a witch’s touch because they was no way it spanned this long inside, but not outside.
A grunt came from the darkness and Laurel froze. She was too young for these jump scares. "Is someone here?"
There was a whisper but Laurel couldn’t make out what was said. "It can’t be helped then."
She broke the candlestick and transferred the fire to the smaller one. "Whoever is in there! Dodge this!"
She threw the smaller candle down the hall to illuminate the path, it hit against a wall and fell, still lit. Her eyes shook slightly. What did she see? A dying woman?
She held the candlestick and hastened towards the person. The grunt came again, it sounded dying.
Looking down at the woman, Laurel saw parts of her flesh had been bitten and blood and scars scattered about her body. Her skin was dry too.
She looked at the door and screamed at the top of her voice. "Lisa!! Bring water and food in here!! Runnn!!"
She heard a reply. "Yes, Princess!!"
The woman turned to the light glowing above her. Saliva drooled from her lips as she stared at the fresh flesh in front of her. Laurel frowned. "Stay still. Food is coming."
Her eyes went about. Could she be the only survivor? Where were others? Laurel’s hand flew to her mouth. Could it be they ate themselves to death?
A door, she didn’t see before, opened.
Laurel’s claws shot out from their place, she pointed them at the figure standing in the darkness. "I’m Princess Laurel of Green Valleys. Who are you?"
There was a humming sound. "And Frida?"
Laurel lowered her claws.
That sounded like a child, a young male. She raised the light to see him. He raised his hand to his face then lowered it when his eyes adjusted to the light.
"Frida?" Laurel remembered the key should’ve been given to Frida only. Did the ones inside know that too? "Who are you? You don’t answer my question—"
"So she’s still alive."
Laurel jumped back, feeling shocked. The boy that stood away from her just now, now stood over the woman.
The only ones she saw having such ridiculous speed were Lycans, or any wolf stronger than her. "W-Who are you, really? And who’s this woman? I don’t have all day—"
He turned to her, a straight expression on his face. Her hand lowered as she recognized him. So it was this one.
"Young Master Ferdinand Righteous, future Beta to the Green Valleys Kingdom." He turned to the woman. "She’s a servant in my quarters, nothing to worry about."
Nothing to worry about? She literally looked dead. Laurel tightened her grip on the candle stick.
Despite how tender his features were, she knew this twelve year son of the Beta was a demon in disguise. She almost regretted wishing she’d find him for Frida’s sake.
"You all have been in here for long?"
"Yes," he agreed, "One hundred and twenty eight days."
He had been counting?
Laurel heard Lisa’s footsteps. She finally reached. She saw the boy return from where he came from. "I will call the other members of my quarters." He forced a smile. "Thank you, Princess Laurel, for unlocking the door."
He didn’t even use ’for saving them’? Laurel tsked.
With how healthy he looked, he probably locked in with supplies and servants. The Beta really doted on his kids.
