Chapter Hundred-Twenty-Seven – Four Hundred
Gold jewelries, sweet smelling perfumes and a small crown that had magic infused in it. Those were the major contents of the gift box.
Laurel’s eyes gleamed wickedly as she stared at the small golden crown. A side note was tied to it. It detected liars. This will be really useful to her in picking her elders.
But she kept it a secret for the time being. The element of surprise will be the best part. And she didn’t even need to wear it, just have it on her, like the charm.
"That reminds me," she closed the box, "I need to find the key to the grand hall, incase they were actually people locked in there."
She hid the box under her bed and nodded at herself. Her eyes scanned Mira and Marino, asleep on the bed. They’d not need her for the next two hours, at least.
She searched for Lisa in her mind link. Apart from Lisa and Valkyrie, she had never tried the mind linking with any other person.
"Ah, Lisa." She found the girl outside her room when she came out. "Are the girls settled in there?"
Lisa looked up, wondering what she meant, before she hummed. "I think they are. Lia said she’d use my father’s shed as a store for her clay pots to earn money."
Laurel chuckled. Lisa had found her father’s house and invited the other girls to live with her because the house was huge.
Surprising to the princess, Lisa was the daughter of the Lead Hunter under King Titus. Laurel didn’t even know all the officials, so she wouldn’t have known their children.
She knew Frida because she lived within the palace, and bullied her. She knew Valkyrie because the Lead warrior, who took over from her mother, got fond of her.
Laurel also realized that the children of the officials were a lot like their parents. Frida was scheming and heartless like her father but had soft deceiving looks like her mother.
No one believed that her mother was warrior ranked and would think she’s an Omega married to a Beta because she always acted weak.
Valkyrie was every inch her father, even in bravery. And Laurel realized Lisa inherited her father’s information gathering skill, which she needed at the moment.
"So, Lisa. Ask around for the grand hall’s key. You might not say the princess needs it, in case it is in the hand of an uncooperative elder, okay?"
Lisa placed her hand on her chest. "Yes, princess!"
Laurel recognized the hand salute as one belonging to the hunters and warriors. She played along, making a small bow. "Go on your mission, hunter!"
Lisa smiled and marched off.
The Princess followed, but diverted to another direction. The survivors of Black Claws Pack had arrived and two Lycans had been spotted within Green Valleys.
Laurel went towards the young girl who said she saw a Lycan looking at her through a window. It was probably an assumption but Laurel had to react to it as their leader.
"Well, I’m sure they are even creeps amongst Lycans." Elma said. "So her claim might not be wrong."
Laurel exhaled. "I don’t think it’s wrong. I mean, at High Moon Kingdom, how many Lycan creeps did I meet in one day? So it’s very possible."
But the thing was, even if that was the truth. What could she do? Green Valleys weren’t given authority to punish a member of Black Claws Pack.
If the Lycan had harassed her, then it’d be more feasible. If not, he could deny any other allegation.
"She’s not home. She went to the farm with her father to help us clear it." Laurel was informed by the girl’s mother. "We need to farm a lot now, you know."
Laurel agreed. "You should. Thank you."
There was nothing else to do as leader. She wondered if she should go snack hunting but decided against it. She walked towards Matt’s store with fallen shoulders.
Sometimes, she had no purpose as she’s no longer a maid. It made her wonder what she did while being a princess but it was boring as well.
Her mind link got nudged on and she stood erect. She released it. "Lisa, did you find any clue?"
"Yes! I found the key itself. It was held by the oldest wolf in Green Valleys. He said he’d only give to it Frida but wouldn’t mind giving you, but by hand." Lisa reported.
Laurel’s lips curved downwards. What was that about? Why will the man only give Frida?
"Where is he then?"
"Um... I found him by Valkyrie’s house though. Just backtrack. You went out, right?"
Laurel nodded even if she couldn’t be seen. Using wolf’s speed, she sped back to the house. She caught Lisa’s scent and walked into the apartment.
"You were fast." Lisa pointed an old man, sprawled on a mat. "Sir Deon, aged four hundred. His ears don’t work anymore so I talk to this boy, who mind link to him."
Four hundred? Laurel stared down at the man’s disheveled hair and skin. It was a miracle he still had hair.
The average werewolf expectancy was two hundred and fifty years. Some did live to three hundred and Laurel heard once of a King that lived to three hundred and fifty.
"You are an immortal, sir." She said even if the man couldn’t hear her. She noticed the boy besides them, stare into space, perhaps communicating what she just said.
"Tell me, I’m here to take the key—"
The old man moved. A ’hmm’ sound left him and he lifted his head slowly. The key laid on his forehead. Laurel froze, watching his mouth move but nothing came out.
"He says the key was given to him by the Beta and he’d only give you if you make sure to do a good job reviving the Kingdom to it’s former glory." The boy explained.
Laurel looked from the boy to the man, a wry smile creeping to her face. The old man was pretty straight forward and that was a heavy promise. "Y-Yes? I plan to."
