Chapter 124: Dark Past

Chapter Hundred-Twenty-Four – Dark Past

Sorren watched Laurel stomp off, he then slowly turned to Cade. His eyes lidded. "So you’ve been flirting with cooks, Cade? That’s unlike you."

"I just said, that’s not true!" Cade barked, rubbing his head. "That Princess is trying to make me look bad."

Sorren shrugged, returning to the living room. "It’s not bad, you are of marriageable age. I wouldn’t judge."

The Beta seethed. Didn’t he just say it wasn’t true? Why did Sorren keep pushing it? His head snapped to the werewolf runt looking at him.

Bebe screamed and ran back to the farm.

"Sigma, what’s that girl doing here when you’re around?" he returned to the living room with Sorren.

Sigma sprawled on the ground, his stomach exposed. "Which girl? What’s a girl? What’s life?" he groaned, lying on his stomach. "Ah, what did I eat? Oh goddess."

Cade sighed, crossing him to seat besides Sorren mixing a medicinal tea for Sigma. "So Sorren, as we discussed, you’d be going to High Mountains to—"

"And Cade, as we concluded," Sorren handed Sigma the medicine. "I decline the offer. I’m good here. Thank you."

A line flashed on Cade’s forehead. "This isn’t something you decline, it’s not an offer but an order!"

Sigma exhaled, feeling better after drinking whatever he drank. "Life, I feel alive! I feel alive again—!"

Cade smacked him and he shut up. "Shut up, Sigma, we are talking on something important here." He turned to Sorren. "And you can’t—" his words such on his throat.

Sorren’s expression was straight but his eyes burnt in low flames. "You shouldn’t hit a kid who’s feeling dreadfully ill."

Cade held his hand to his chest. Those rules only exist for Sigma, didn’t they? Because he knew Sorren would hit him even if he was dying.

And wasn’t Sigma only suffering from a stomach ache? How was that dreadfully ill?

Sigma rolled on his back. "I can’t wait for Dylan to come back with the survivors! And everyone will be here! We’d be happy again!"

Sorren’s eyes brightened. "Don’t hope too much on that. We will also be rebuilding the people and Black Claws. Well, Stefan will be rebuilding. I’d be farming."

Cade left where he sat. "Sorren, try taking responsibility for once. You don’t need to do much. The Alpha can only stay here for now, handle the new Black Claws—"

"Don’t you think we should change the name though?" Sigma interrupted. "If here is Black Claws with Green Valleys in it, then they should be... Black... Black Fangs!"

There’s silence but Sorren slowly nodded. "Tell Alpha."

"Don’t tell him." Cade grabbed Sigma that was running to do so. The Beta exhaled.

He had lost a lot of brain and fat cells just speaking with Sorren, while also trying to shut Sigma up.

He exhaled again. "I know you made me Beta because you don’t want to involve yourself in politics."

Sorren folded his arms. "If you know, then why are you forcing me into it? I really like my life like this."

Cade glanced at Sigma, who was distracted, then back at Sorren. "You know he’d be coming too. The dark past."

Sorren squinted his eyes, his brain trying to think of who that was. He rubbed his hair. He couldn’t remember, maybe he’s getting old, after all. "Tell me."

"Well, you were five when it happened." Cade grinned, making Sorren frown. "The student under your father that trained to be General of all Battle Forces in Black Claws."

Sorren hesitated before nodding. The runt of his father? Wanting to unite all werewolf packs’ warriors and their lycan warriors under one umbrella.

And then he trained a talented Lycan to take over. But the plan got foiled after the raid and now, there’s barely enough force for a pack more or less a kingdom.

"So what about him? If he comes, he’d probably be bored as there’s nothing for him to do." Sorren said.

Cade face palmed. Wasn’t this Prince supposed to be smart? Why did it take him ages to understand this?

"Sorren, if he returns, he’d ask Stefan to let him take care of the survivors at High Mountains." Cade spelt out.

Sorren would’ve celebrated that as a good thing that’d let him be free but he remembered the exact dark past.

During the raid, they were talks that the runt was the one who revealed Prince Stefan’s location and identity as the heir to Black Claws Kingdom.

This was believed to be so, because the Lycan King had made sure his sons were safe before leaving to fight Alpha Titus yet Alpha Titus easily found Stefan after finishing the Lycan King.

Also, with how bloody and tired Alpha Titus must’ve been after a heated battle with the Lycan King, his first move should have been to retreat.

The only reason he would go on to look for the heir would be because he knew exactly where to find him.

Yet this was never confirmed. The runt not being killed by Alpha Titus, despite being an important official, made people suspect him more and termed him a dark past who tried to kill Stefan to take the throne.

"So, you think if Mr. Dark Past take over High Mountains, he’d make the people accept him as King and cause a rebellion against my brother?" Sorren asked.

Cade sighed in relief. Finally, he used his brain. "Yes. That’s why you should be at High Mountains instead."

Such a pain. Sorren rested his head on the couch. "Can’t we just kill him off? I mean, if he’s a threat just kill him—"

"No, Alpha also plans to use his battle knowledge to teach the new Black Claws warriors." Cade explained. "We don’t have a battle force. But his influence on the warriors won’t be too great to use them to rebel, I’d make sure."

Sorren sighed in despair. "Leave me alone." He hugged himself. "I don’t want to leave my farm."

Cade leaned towards him. "If you want, I’d arrange a farm for you there. You just have to be there."

Sorren squeezed his face like he’d cry. He drawled. "Big Brother... Tell him to leave me alone..."

Cade nodded. "You lazy... It’s agreed then. You’re going!"
