Chapter 123: Accused
Chapter Hundred-Twenty-Three – Accused
Things had been moving fast since they got into Valkyrie’s quarters. The grand hall’s key hadn’t been seen yet and worse, a strange rumor started going around.
Laurel squeezed the cloth and placed it on Marino’s head. The change of environment had made him sick.
Matt agreed for the twins to live with her while he remained in the store and keep apprenticing.
Laurel thought he almost sounded relieved to have someone else take care of his siblings. He was just thirteen, after all, raising little children will be hard.
"I don’t even know how to raise anyone but this will be fun." Laurel smiled, patting the sleepy boy.
She noticed some girls gossiping, about the rumor again. According to some, the grand hall had an underground basement where some people hid during the raid.
It’s also said that since the grand hall is locked, those people became trapped inside and died and their spirits dominated the grand hall.
In other words, no one wanted to open the grand hall because it could be haunted. "Nonsense." Laurel said. The moment she finds the key, the hall will be opened.
If they were really people there, shouldn’t they hurriedly rescue them since the pack was safe?
Were the people of Green Valleys cowards through and through? "Princess! Princess!!"
Laurel squinted her eyes, looking at the direction of the voice. Lia ran to her, panting heavily. She looked up and stood straight.
"Princess, Jessika has been accused of something!"
Laurel left Marino’s side. Accused? It could only be Beta Cade that’d start such nonsense.
Jessika hadn’t been allowed to leave the kitchen since Green Valleys became free.
One job to another just to delay her when she was the only cook that wanted to leave the palace.
"Cade might actually like her too much." Elma scoffed. "But he forgets the kind of monster he is, who’d want to stay close to him?"
Laurel sighed. When she assumed Jessika could be Cade’s weak point, she only thought it’d be something temporary.
If he’d put her in trouble to keep her close then Jessika will really need help. "Stay here, Lisa. Don’t leave his side." She sat Lisa by Marino and hurried off.
It’s been a three days since she moved to the Lead Warrior’s quarters so the maid quarters had been taken by the warriors of Black Claws.
Those warriors had been habiting the houses of some pack members, including Elder Kuso’s, so with the new law, they had to go somewhere else – the maid quarters.
When High Mountains gets it’s makeover, they could move there if they like. "Jessika has every right to leave that place." Laurel seethed. "That Cade just likes trouble!"
She stood before the guards of Cade’s quarter, hands on waist. "Can I speak with Beta Cade? It’s important!"
The guards looked at themselves, then one cleared his throat. "He’s currently at Prince Sorren’s quarters—"
Laurel didn’t wait for him and stomped to Sorren’s quarters. He had no guard so only a knock and she barged in. She found Bebe outside, at the farm.
"Princess!" Bebe jumped on her. "Princess... there’s a scary man with Master Sorren and—"
"That’s who I am looking for!" She left Bebe and knocked on the door. "Excuse me?"
Bebe stared at her, before running to the door. "Erm... Master Sorren, Princess Laurel will like to speak with—"
The door opened and Cade stood in front of them, he looked down at Laurel. "Since when did you visit Sorren at his quarters?"
Laurel folded her arms. "A while now but I’m here to speak with you, Cade. Three words, let Jessika go."
A scowl came to his face, hiding the little red on his cheeks. "W-What made you think I’m keeping her from leaving the kitchen!"
"Oh, then how do you know someone’s keeping her from leaving the kitchen?" Laurel peered at him. "Four words, she can’t like you."
She noticed the Beta’s fists clenched and smirked. "If you understand me perfectly then I’d take my leave, expecting your cooperation—"
"He isn’t the one keeping Jessika at the kitchen."
Laurel frowned, turning to Sorren behind Cade. "Huh?" She noticed he had restyled his long hair to be fixed up in a bun, it made him look a bit masculine.
Sorren pulled Cade back, crashing the Beta on a wall. The Prince smiled. "Today or tomorrow, the survivors of our Kingdom will arrive." He told Laurel.
The princess wondered how that should be her business. She did her best to make sure her pack had some order before that, because more Lycans will arrive too.
"High Mountains is ready but they might be tired from the long journey." Sorren added. "So we asked the cooks to cook, all the cooks."
Laurel frowned but released her face. With Sorren’s smirk, he knew the words to counter with.
Even if Green Valleys had freedom, they still served Black claws. Jessika couldn’t just leave till they let her and she, as their Princess, couldn’t do much about it.
Still, she exhaled. "I heard Jessika got accused so I came here. If it isn’t connected to Cade, then I trust she’d be allowed to leave when she’s done."
Sorren shrugged, his smirk still on his face. "When she’s done."
Laurel frowned again, would they still keep her there?
"And why do you think Cade wanted her to like him though?" Sorren’s smirk fell and he looked curious. "I have never heard of this before."
"B-Because, it’s not true!" Cade grunted, leaving the ground. He had stayed there trying to relax but he couldn’t stand what Laurel was saying.
Laurel clicked her tongue. "Ask your buddy. You don’t really expect a girl to like the man that raided her land."
"Hmmm," Sorren asked. "Even you?"
Laurel paused. Did he mean in respect to being Stefan’s mate? Laurel clenched her fists. "I said no girl will like a man that raided her land! Even me, of course!"
Bebe tried to calm her down but Laurel brushed her aside and walked out of Sorren’s quarters.
"Why should we be the one to forgive and accept? Why didn’t you guys forgive and accept! Ridiculous!"
If Stefan knew her father’s attack was due to his step mother killing her mother then why didn’t he accept the mistake and rebuild his pack?
Why did he have to avenge? Why did he have to hurt his mate after his step mother took her mother from her? She wouldn’t be the one to end the circle of revenge and hate.
"Let it continue till we die!" she cursed. "Foolish Lycans!"
