Chapter 122: Elder

Chapter Hundred-Twenty-Two – Elder

Laurel took a step back. How unlucky could she get? She spun around and faced the door. Even being in the elder’s presence nauseated her.

"I’d never forget how you beat me up while blaming me for the fall of our empire. Now, I’m going to be it’s rise, I don’t need to see your worthlessness face again!"

"What?!" the elder left his seat, pointing his cane at her. "I’ve lived for more than a hundred years and I can tell that this expire will fall again in—"

Laurel heard a metallic object collide with something. She turned around an found Elder Kuso on the ground nearly passed out. The older woman sat on top of him.

"Don’t speak that way to a princess, you foul mouth!" she left him on the ground and smiled. "Don’t mind my husband, Princess. He’s a big coward."

Laurel straightened up. "Uh... yeah... I mean," she looked at the elder’s condition. His wife really did a number on him.

"Oh my!" the woman came close to the twins. "It’s been a while I’ve seen these two outside. And they’re looking thin again. You wouldn’t mind them eating here—"

"I respectfully decline!" Laurel bowed. She didn’t know the woman enough to put the twins’ life in the line. Also, her husband was elder Kuso. It said a lot about her taste.

"I actually wanted to know where the grand hall’s key is. We’d be having change of elders soon." She said that looking at elder Kuso.

His eyes returned to their normal position and he sprang up to his feet like an agile peacock. "Change elders?! You must be crazy little girl!"

"You’d be stunned to know that I’m not! You don’t benefit us anymore. Actually," she faced the woman. "I’ve seen great understanding in madam over here."

Many men flipped colors when compared to their wives. Laurel was curious to know what color he’d be.

Elder Kuso turned purple. "You are replacing me with my wife? A woman? You really want the empire to fall ag—"

The metallic plate in his wife’s hand slammed on his face again and he staggered back, falling face down.

Laurel began wondering if it was safe to beat an old man like that but it should be fair if it’s by an old woman, right?

"What do you mean a woman! You and your misogyny! You didn’t even do a good job as elder, you coward!" the old woman raised the plate again, before sighing.

"Princess, I don’t know if I’d be able to help you. My husband and the other losers might be cowards but they are knowledgeable in politics."

"I need elders who have a heart, ma’am." Laurel adjusted the twins on both her arms. "Wise and have a heart. None without the other. We are rebuilding now."

The woman gazed at her before giving a reassuring smile. "You must know what you want then." She bowed. "These old bones will do her best for you."

Laurel nodded and bowed back. "Thank you."

Then, little Mira clapped, earning looks from the two. The little girl didn’t know what happened but the old woman bowed and the princess bowed back. An agreement must have been successfully made.

Laurel smiled and left Elder Kuso’s place. She also noticed that they lived in a store, not a house.

With gritted teeth, Laurel marched back to the maids quarters. The maids watched her walk in with two kids.

"Don’t crowd them." Laurel said, dropping the twins as the maids came towards her. "And speak softly."

Lia held Marino’s hand. "Marino! Don’t you remember me! I used to visit you with Aunty Lena!"

Laurel frowned a bit on hearing the girl shout, she waited for Marino’s reaction but the boy turned away, looking at the Princess.

Lia held her heart dramatically. "He forgot me!" She got pushed away and the other maids tried to talk with the twins. Laurel hurried to Valkyrie’s room. She met it open. "Huh? What are you doing?" Laurel raised a brow, seeing Valkyrie upside down on the bed.

"Some kind of exercise."

Laurel shook her head, entering the room. She didn’t think Valkyrie would have a silly side, but then who didn’t?

"I was thinking of us moving out of this place. I have no where to return to. My palace had already been—"

"What about my place?" Valkyrie fell on her bed. "The lead warrior’s quarters. It’s close to the forest and really large to aid training. It has many rooms for warriors too."

That’d be perfect! Laurel clasped her palm together. They also didn’t have a battle force so they could grow some there. But it was the Lead Warrior’s role to train warriors.

Valkyrie hadn’t broken the lead warrior rank yet and Laurel didn’t think she could teach anyone what she knew.

"Let’s go slowly." She told herself out loud. "Valkyrie, you wouldn’t mind anyone without a home staying there with you, right?"

Valkyrie smiled. "I’d be honored to host you and anyone. I lived there alone with my father, and sweaty men who do nothing but train, my whole life. I’d be the lucky one."

It was settled then. The maids with a home to go to will return, and those without would stay at Valkyrie’s place.

"I wonder if Matt will move to the lead warrior quarters. It definitely has more air circulation." Laurel looked out the door and saw Mira being chased by the maids playfully.

Her light cheerful screams showed she liked fun but she probably didn’t have a big field to run about.

Marino just rested on the boobs of a maid. Laurel tsked.

"Do you know that the lead warrior’s quarters was originally non-existent?" Valkyrie tried going upside down again. "The Alpha, Beta and Delta lived in the palace and had their quarters in the palace but the lead warrior had no place except amongst the people."

Laurel folded her arms. Was this a random teaching moment? She knew Jessika did them but she didn’t expect Valkyrie too. "Then, when did the building—"

"When our Luna was a lead warrior!" Valkyrie fell on the bed again. "As a gift from the Alpha to get on her good side, a lead warrior’s quarters was built."

Laurel smiled. Her father had good cards up his sleeve. "And she gave it to your father when she became Luna?"

"Yep! She termed it the lead warrior’s quarters instead of hers so all lead warriors to come will have a place." Valkyrie stood up. "She’s really amazing, right?"

Laurel made an ’hmm’ sound. She wondered if she could ever live up to the deeds of her mother or the strength of her father.

She’d have to walk in her own pace till then.
