Chapter 117: To Be A Leader

Chapter Hundred-Seventeen – To be a leader

Darren exhaled after Sorren left, he released his mind link and replied the men that had been nudging him since the past few minutes.

"Yes, don’t attack him. Let him go." He told the man.

That Sorren must be a haughty spoilt young Prince but Darren didn’t want to be in his brain so regularly.

"Master Darren?" The old man peeked into the room, he found it empty so strolled in. "Did your plan work?"

Darren flashed him a smile. "I guess so. And good news, the princess turned the tide and Green Valleys will be under Black Claws pack."

"Really?" the man’s knees gave way and he fell to the ground. "That’s such good news! That’s good news!"

Darren nodded. Indeed it were.

"That Alpha... he is really getting fond of our princess." He muttered. First, it was not killing her immediately and refusing to trade her for one-third of his land.

Then, he took her to an important meeting, like he worried of her safety in his absence and now, the princess convinced him to free her people and he did just that.

"I hope she’d keep having such effects on him till she successfully conquer the land."

Darren turn to the old man. He heard him?

He nodded. "I hope too. But it might not be. If the Alpha truly had a soft spot for the princess, his Beta and Delta wouldn’t have hurt her warriors that way."

Unless the Alpha’s feeling for the princess were still unknown. They’d be no good exposing that he had a soft spot for his enemy’s daughter anyway.

Darren ran his hands through his hair and fell on a couch. "At least, I can stop bothering Jessika with how the princess is doing. She’s doing good."

She had a royal blood after all, she had the heart of a fate changer so maybe he shouldn’t have worried much.

"But who’d lead the pack?"

Darren’s nearly closed eyes opened. Shouldn’t that be the princess? But she barely knew the basics. What will she do? How’d she start?

Darren turned to his side, ignoring the old man’s question but the man rushed to him, pulling his clothes.

"Master Darren, help our princess. We’d always be grateful to you." The old man pleaded. "The pack was attacked, she’d know nothing to do to restore it back."

Darren sighed. Why did the old man think he’d know? It was the first time he experienced such tragedy too.

"Master Darren, I’d give you my daughter’s hand in marriage if you—"

Darren left the couch, rubbing his head. "Please, don’t trade Anna without her permission. As always I’d do what I can to help. Everything depends on the princess."

The old man smiled, "This feat proved that the princess knew what she’s doing. I believe her now! Surely, she knows what next to do. Just keep waiting for news!"

Meanwhile at Black Claws, the maids at the quarters were celebrating and dancing about. Some even destroyed their brooms as they don’t get to be maids anymore.

But the only one with a fake plastered smile was the princess, the reason for the celebration. Beads of sweat dripped down Laurel’s head, she wiped it quickly.

"I’m so done, Elma." She cried internally. "So after rescuing the pack, what next?"

Her plan had only stopped there. She had concluded with ’when we get there, we handle it’, but there’s no ’handling’ she could think of now she got there.

"The pack members will officially need to hear from you that the Alpha accepted Green Valleys as a pack." Elma suggested. "And you’re the leader... not Alpha, leader."

Laurel remembered her bold claim to Stefan that’d she grow into being an Alpha. She exhaled. That was just wearing a bold front. Could she even do it?

"It’s taking me ages to break Delta rank, I’d be a grand mother before I’d reach Beta and Alpha rank will be just so impossible." She sobbed dramatically.

But if she should compliment herself for getting one thing, it’d be getting Cade to eat his words. She planned to do anything in her power to make Cade respect her pack.

"A pack he once treated as trash." Laurel smirked. "He and his survivors will have to depend on it."

In a way, this chance her pack was given was a trap for Black Claws, Laurel closed her eyes as thoughts flooded into her mind. "Green Valleys is still Green Valleys."

It’s now like a raid never happened. All they had was an additional leader, not even a change since the heir to Green Valleys still lived.

Stefan and his people will be living in THEIR Green Valleys not just in a ’land their Alpha conquered’. The people of Green Valleys still existed after all.

"Even if he sends his people to a High Mountains, they’d still need to come to Green Valleys to buy food, supplies, and other necessities."

They’d always be visitors here.

"To top it," Elma suggested again. "You have to become a powerful outspoken leader. Don’t tolerate any one pushing your people over. The packs will be equal now."

Laurel nodded firmly.

When she opened her eyes, which had been closed since she started her internal dialogue with Elma, she found the curious looks of the maids on her.

She flushed. Had they been watching her? Did they see those stupid smirks and nods she had been making?

"Hmm, we should stop bothering the Princess now. She has the whole Green Valleys on her shoulder." Lia told the girls with a proud smile. "We should let her think."

Laurel chuckled nervously. "Not really..."

A maid held her hand. "Thank you for freeing us, Princess. I’d do my best to support you if you need it."

Laurel gazed at the girl, feeling warm from her declaration. She tried to think of the girl’s name but felt guilty when she couldn’t place it. "Thank you too, I appreciate it—"

Another maid shoved the maid aside and held Laurel’s hand. "Th-That’s what I wanted to say... Princess if you need help, I am here alw—"

That one also got pushed. "I’m the one that’d be helping the princess..."

They began pushing each other, trying to get a hold of the Princess’ hand. Laurel tried to calm them down but against so many, her voice drowned.

She looked down, a smile creeping to her face.

Never in her thoughts, while staying in her high tower room or at the prison, did she think anyone would fight for her attention. She had truly come so far already.
