Chapter Hundred-Ten – Her punishment

That one had stayed too long in there.

Laurel paced around Sorren’s yard. He acted like he wanted to speak to her but then went to his room.

Could it be...?

Bebe opened the door quietly, she ran to Laurel, looking amused. "Princess, Master Sorren is fast asleep."

Her fist clenched and a low hiss left Laurel’s lips. It made Bebe laugh loudly, holding unto the princess.

"Just as I thought. That little..." Even if his body was tired from the long journey, he didn’t need to leave her waiting. She still needed to check on the maids and Jessika.

"Take care then." She told Bebe. "I’d come back later."

The maid quarters had an eerie silence to it. Laurel braced her heart for the worst. Elma came to the surface as they walked into the quarters. No guards in front.

The quarters had no one moving inside. Laurel could feel they were hurdled inside their rooms. Did the recent tragedy affect them that much?

She exhaled, going towards her room. She realized she didn’t have the keys so turned back to the girls’ rooms. They all needed time out but she needed rest too.

"Valkyrie?" she knocked on her door. "Valk—"

A door opposite Valkyrie’s opened. The princess froze, then turned to her. "Did I wake you, Lisa—"

The girl rushed to hug her, burying her face in her chest as she sobbed silently. Laurel got worried.

Those didn’t seem like tears of joy on seeing her. Neither were they tears of sorrow for the warriors that died.

"Lisa? Lisa!" the other doors opened one by one and they all stared at Lisa, not even the princess. "What happened to her?" Laurel had to ask.

Valkyrie’s door opened at that point.

Laurel noticed the eyes bags under her eyes, she looked terrible. "What really happened here?"

Since Jade got locked up, she assumed life would be bearable for the maids. Had she been wrong? The maids finally noticed her and smiled.

Laurel couldn’t smile back. "Apart from the attack from our warriors, did any other thing happen?" she asked again.

"Frida happened!" Lia snapped and the others agreed.

"Well, it’s still connected to the attack from our warriors." Valkyrie stooped to the ground. "Frida had stolen Jade before the attack. Later, Lisa got punished for it."

The maids suddenly had hateful expressions as Valkyrie explained, they added.

"It’s because Lisa was in charge of Jade that day."

"I knew we shouldn’t have allowed that dumb Frida in!"

"And Beta Cade was the one who punished Lisa."

Laurel racked her head for responses. She still couldn’t phantom why Frida had needed Jade.

Jade had been an official in the pack. Did Frida really think her disappearance wouldn’t be noticed?

"We don’t know how Lisa was punished." Valkyrie added. "She has been crying and locked herself in. This is the first time she’s coming out."

The maids became quiet but it became obvious to Laurel what they thought.

After all, rape was a known way Cade usually handled females he didn’t care for. Giving them to the warriors to play with.

That’d be enough to traumatize the girl. Laurel still hoped it wasn’t it. She raised Lisa’s head from her chest gently. "Lisa?"

The girl’s face was red all over, her body shook as she took fast breaths in. "Princess..." she kept on crying.

Laurel hugged her again and forced a smile to the maids. "It’s okay. As long as we are alive, we’d survive anything."

Some maids smiled while others nodded to themselves. Valkyrie threw the key to her room and Laurel caught it. "When you rest, tell us about your trip."

"Sure." Laurel moved with Lisa into her room. She locked it and collapsed on her bed, the girl till wrapped around her.

Laurel didn’t have the words to comfort a rape victim. "So I’d hope it’s not rape."

"It’s not." Elma stated. "Cade knew Lisa didn’t take Jade so he only punished her for negligence. Also, if it’s rape, she would be dead or can’t walk. She walks fine."

Laurel could see the sense in it. Cade’s method of raping happened during the time of the raid. There’s no need to use such practice especially on a frail weak girl like Lisa.

"That’s not why he didn’t do it. Cade is a monster." Elma huffed. "He still traumatized her, nevertheless."

The princess finger tapped the bed, pondering on what to say next. She gazed down at Lisa and noticed she no longer sobbed. She rubbed her head to console her.

"Delta Sigma saved me."

The princess stayed quiet, wanting to her to express herself first.

"Well, not exactly saved me." Lisa added, then made a sniff. "He just stopped Beta Cade from going further. He called me weak and all. I could’ve died."

That did say much about the kind of punishment but if it sounded like something someone else could see then it’d not rape. Laurel didn’t know if it was her cue to speak.

"I got beaten by guards, completely naked." Lisa sobbed again, "I kept saying... sorry, sorry. It’s so embarrassing that they watched..." her cries became louder.

Laurel gulped down nothing. Contrary to her earlier thoughts, the punishment was actually what no one should watch. She held the girl tightly.

That was traumatizing, especially for a girl child. How far would Cade had gone?

Demand that she be raped? Beat her to death? All for Jade’s disappearance or he also vented for the warriors attack?

And those guards would be so inappropriate while beating her. Laurel felt warm blood stream down her palm as her clenched fists ruptured her skin.

"I’m truly sorry you had to go through that. I’m sure Frida didn’t want you to go through that either." Laurel said.

There was no need to speak for Frida but Laurel wanted Lisa not to hold so much hate in her heart.

The girl soon fell asleep, curled up on the princess’ body and Laurel’s hand wrapped around her.

Laurel couldn’t rest like that but she was glad that she was a comfort to someone.

"Stefan should really release my pack. My score with Cade keeps increasing."
