Chapter 108: Survive
Chapter Hundred-Eight – Survive
Laurel carefully dropped the sleeping Bebe on the couch. Elma was still active so Laurel caught the scent of someone she had almost forgotten.
"What’s Jade doing here?" she asked Frida as she was about leaving.
Frida met her gaze. "Not your business."
Laurel narrowed her eyes at her. What foul game was she playing now? She brushed it off and continued towards Darren’s quarters.
She had never been to Silent River pack so she wasn’t sure where to go. She sighted an older man, with a young girl peeling oranges.
There was a gloomy atmosphere around the place, possibly because of the dead warriors. Why weren’t they stopped before they ventured into something so stupid?
"Good day sir. Excuse me. I’d like to—’"
The tray in the old man’s hand fell, scattering the orange and it’s peels on the ground. "P-Princess? Princess!"
Laurel looked away. "Uh... yes. Nice to meet you too." She didn’t expect they’d be some of her people who’d feel so excited to see her. It made her glad.
The little girl, by the man, left his back and held unto Laurel’s dress, nudging it so she’d look down. Laurel stared at her and the girl pointed herself. "Ella."
Did she mean her name was Ella? "I’m... Laurel? Please, I need to see Darren..., no, sir Darren?"
The old man’s excitement died down, he looked down at his hands. His lips quivered and he started sobbing.
Laurel regretted asking.
"Master Darren doesn’t want to see anyone. He warned them not to leave but Lady Frida convinced them of victory but she didn’t even go with them. It was a total fail."
Laurel heaved a sigh. It’s so like Frida to hype desperate wolves up then leave them stranded.
Her father was such a jerk, motivating the warriors to go to war but staying back. King Titus never fully trusted him.
"So, Master Darren can’t see me now. I understand. Honestly, I don’t know how to correct this. The Lycan Alpha might make problems with him later."
Darren’s place was the only safe place for the people till Stefan approved of Green Valleys as a pack under Black Claws. If Stefan deemed it a threat, he’d wipe it off.
"Master Darren has a plan for that, as long as the one that comes is Alpha Stefan. Alpha Stefan already knew he had refugees so he planned to blame the dead ones for their own actions."
Like saying the refugees decided to revolt? Laurel forced a smile. That was plausible. It was more of a truth anyway.
"Princess, stay with us for a while. The few that didn’t go with the warriors will get strength with you around." The old man said.
Laurel shook her head. "I plan to make Green Valleys a free pack under Black Claws. I can’t stay here."
The old man’s eyes widened in surprise. "W-Will they agree to that? A werewolf pack under them?"
"Their former pack was like that."
"Former pack? They had a pack? Why are they here?"
Laurel exhaled. Of course, the people didn’t know that the raid was a retaliation of what their King did.
And what their King did was a retaliation for what their Luna Queen did. A spiraling web of crimes and pain.
"Don’t worry. With current development, it’d be harder for them to agree but I’d do my best. We’d blame everything on the late warriors. The rest of us must survive."
The old man looked at her in admiration. "I’m grateful you survived the attack, princess. Keep helping this foolish people. Hopefully, we’d cause less trouble for you."
Laurel nodded firmly, then questioned if that should’ve been her response. She briskly walked away, ignoring the curious look the little girl gave her. She’d visit again.
She met Frida on the couch with Bebe. Bebe was awake now, staring curiously at the pretty redhead by her side.
"You are always curious about everyone." Laurel said, walking towards her. "And you don’t care about anyone." She told Frida.
The Beta’s daughter didn’t look concerned. "If you’re going to blame me for not stopping the warriors, then I don’t care. They were enraged, they deserved revenge."
"Yes, but not death!" Laurel snapped, stunning Bebe. "What they got was death, not revenge! There’s a damn difference between—"
"That’s only how you see it!" Frida left her seat. "I don’t really care about revenge but I lost my parents and I still don’t know where the hell my younger brother is!"
Laurel breathed in and out down. Truly, she hadn’t seen the Beta’s young son. Still, attacking a pack that had opponents stronger than they wasn’t advisable.
"You are not the only ones that lost parents, Frida."
"Maybe I’m the only one that care." Frida attacked again. "Your father was killed yet you seem to be accepting these Lycans. You are the weird one here, Laurel." Frida walked away.
Accepting the Lycans? Laurel eyes enlarged, she bit her lower lips tightly. She never knew there was a distinction between Lycans and Werewolves before.
Then the moon goddess gave her a Lycan as her mate. Any pack could have attacked their pack, be it a Werewolf pack or a Lycan pack.
"You are more of a coward than I thought."
Frida paused, slowly turning to the princess. "What?"
Laurel faced her squarely, feeling herself about to burst open. "Maybe I accepted the pain too fast! Heck, it could be the accumulation of what I stored that makes me break down! But I suffer alone. I try to make sure all around me don’t suffer too!"
Bebe glanced at the princess and then at the confused redhead.
"You!" Laurel pointed at Frida. "You are just pushing everything to the next person and playing victim! Maybe you’re scared after all!"
"What did you say—"
"Unlike me, you’ve always had your daddy’s back!" Laurel interrupted Frida. "I’m weird because I’m used to pain and disappointment so this, this is just one of them!"
Laurel wiped her face. "You, you are coward because you don’t adapt fast enough! You think these Lycans are your only threat?"
A low chuckle left her. "I also thought that if we somehow take care of these ones, we are okay. But there’s a whole load of them at the other part of our world and I dare you to look the King in the eye if you wouldn’t crumble! Frida, you are coward because—"
"It’s okay, princess." Bebe hugged her tightly. "Don’t cry."
