Chapter 102: Dress Up
Chapter Hundred-Two – Dress Up
Stefan sprang up from the couch again. The movement made Sorren look at him.
"You really like your mate. I would have forgotten she’s not here if not that you keep pacing about."
Stefan frowned but said nothing.
Then there was a groan and someone fell before them. Before Stefan could take it in, Sorren left where he sat and rushed to her.
"Princess, oh Goddess, where have you been? Thank Goddess! I have been so worried."
Laurel looked up at him, from the ground were she fell at. She couldn’t tell if he was acting or he meant it. From all she just went through, she really hoped he meant it.
"Indeed. It was hell but don’t worry, I’m okay now." She laid on the ground almost kissing it, happy to be back.
The Alpha could only stare at his younger brother in annoyance. He had been worried? Didn’t he just say the opposite of that before she came in?
"So where’s the food?" Sorren asked, a fake smile on his face. "You left us here to starve, didn’t you?"
Laurel chuckled nervously. She had hurried back, in case Zara chased after her. "I’d go get it—"
"I’d go."
Laurel and Sorren turned to a Stefan.
The Alpha folded his arms. "And Laurel, when I get back, you’d tell me where you have been."
His words had no commanding tone. Laurel thought it sounded like he had been worried. But that’d be impossible.
He’d prefer if some other Lycan killed her since he couldn’t because of the mate bond.
She left the ground, dusting her hair. "Okay."
She felt him get close and she lowered her head. There was a small pat on her head or did he only brush off the dust? He left for the kitchen afterwards.
"What was that?" she asked Sorren.
That one had an amused expression. "He could’ve just copied what I did. His feelings would’ve actually match."
Laurel frowned. So Sorren had only been acting and wasn’t worried? And Stefan’s feelings would’ve match? He was the one actually worried?
She brushed the thoughts away and faced Sorren. "It was because of you I got kidnaped."
Sorren’s eyes widened, he glared at the less than six foot creature. "Stefan would think I planned it to worry him, you should watch how you word your sentences, princess."
The princess flinched, taken aback by his sudden seriousness. It’s not like he was incapable of playing such pranks.
She cleared her throat. "Well, not exactly, but the one who kidnapped me wanted to know about you."
"Oh, interesting." Sorren’s mood became bright. "Tell me, what did they want to know?"
He liked the attention, didn’t he? Laurel folded her arms. "I’m too hungry to speak. When I’ve eaten, I’d speak. It was a very interesting question too."
Sorren’s brows furrowed. "Eh? Then say it."
Laurel turned to him. "I’ve been running. I should go and rest now. Please, excuse me."
From the corner of her eyes, she saw Soren frowning at her. She smirked. He should remain curious, it should burn him away.
She slammed the door, to emphasize that his curiosity wouldn’t be answered.
Someone jumped to the bed. Laurel turned behind her. "Oh, I’m sorry. I forgot you are still—" she trailed off. What was the girl doing?
The bag Laurel came with had been ransacked and the werewolfess wore one of her dresses and some jewelry.
Laurel hated to admit it but it fit the girl better than it did her. "Oh, where you playing dress up?" she asked, coming close to the girl.
The girl winced, closing her eyes tightly when Laurel raised her hand. But Laurel only took out the hairpin in her hair.
"This one doesn’t match your eyes or the dress." She pinned another one in her hair. "Brown matches your eyes better."
The werewolfess was surprised that she wasn’t hit, she opened her eye, looking at Laurel.
Laurel smiled on seeing the hair pin really complimented her eyes, she made a thumps up. "Hmm! Looks good."
The werewolfess finally tore eye contact, looking down. If it had been her stepmother who found her checking her clothes and jewelry, she’d been beaten at the spot.
Laurel packed back some of the dress back into her bag. At least, if the werewolfess can wear some of them, it will make the excess clothes she brought useful.
"I don’t even know if we’re returning home tomorrow or not." She muttered. "I’d ask those two, but after eating." She fell on her bed. "I can barely breathe anymore."
Elma scoffed at the drama. Laurel stayed calm, listening for any sound of Stefan being back.
She glanced at the werewolfess smiling, while putting pins on her hair. There was a small face mirror in their room, unlike the full length mirror Laurel had seen in Sorren’s room.
Laurel’s mind drifted to after the criminal had sprayed the powder that made her faint.
She thought hard on who had saved her. She knew it was probably someone sent by Zara. But how could they find her when they knew nothing about her?
"I guess I should bring back those memories." She mumbled, rising from the bed.
The last time she did it was at prison, since then, they hadn’t really been a need for it.
Sitting still on the bed, she closed her eyes trying to search her consciousness. It shouldn’t be that far off since it happened recently. She began sensing them.
"Ah, this job was a hard one." It was a crying voice of the criminal who attacked her. Those must have been his last words before fainting.
There was nothing else but Laurel kept her concentration. Then she heard footsteps, but strangely on the wall.
The alley was tight so she could tell where the sound came from. There weren’t much space for a third person to walk freely after she and the criminal were passed out of the ground.
And the footsteps sounded like they were brushing against a soft surface, like the walls.
"She’s the one, huh?" it was a male voice.
"Honestly, why is Lady Zara interested in some random girl... huh? What’s that on her waist?"
Laurel’s brows furrowed as she felt that her dress was lifted and the charm was touched. Such a pervert! So she had seen three on one day?!
"Isn’t this a charm? To hide her scent? Then is she..." he sniffed. "She is. She’s a werewolf."
Laurel panicked. All the man had to do was sniff and he knew she was a werewolf?! What about the charm?
Even if it was in his hand, it was still attached to her body! Someone knew her secret but she didn’t even know him!
