Chapter 101: Reeks
Chapter Hundred-One – Reeks
Could she read her mind? Laurel swallowed down a lump of saliva. She couldn’t avoid this, but what’d she say?
Her hands reached for her side, where the charm was but Zara’s eyes followed her movement so she paused.
This was a difficult situation, the Delta was still an official and could punish a werewolf if they find one. Was there even a rule to punish werewolves?
"I told you I’m new here." Laurel replied. She breathed in and out. She would handle the situation the only way she knew best. Negotiating and Bluffing.
It worked with all the people she knew, like Cade, even the new King, except Sorren though. She stared at Zara.
Zara had a bored expression. "I don’t think because you’re new hence you have no scent. What do you take me for?"
"A smart beautiful lady." Laurel smirked, moving closer. "And what I meant by I’m new is that coming to a new environment, I hide my scent to avoid unwanted gazes."
Zara’s expression lightened. That was it? She had heard of travelers hiding their scent so rogues won’t catch them.
There were also the Lycan Hunters who do it too, to sneak up on other Lycans.
Zara would have thought Laurel was the latter but she didn’t look it, and the criminal she sent was an average Lycan yet knocked her down, she wasn’t a Lucan hunter.
"Very well, I’d buy that. Come with me, there’s still more I want to know about you." Zara continued to another room.
A sigh of relief left Laurel as she followed. But shouldn’t the Beta’s daughter ask her what species she was to want to hide her scent? Or her rank? Didn’t she care?
"I don’t feel bloodlust from her." Elma said. "And it’s like, she’s a creature compatible with werewolves."
That was vague. Laurel thought. How could the Beta’s daughter be a creature that was compatible with werewolves.
"She gives the kind of feel Sorren gives sometimes. I’m never really tensed with Sorren since he’s part werewolf..." Elma continued.
Could that be it? Laurel rushed to Zara, coming in front of her. "Are you part werewolf?"
It was a moment of excitement for her. That she’s able to decipher that, but the scowl on Zara’s face told her that it would’ve not been advised to ask her the question.
But what was wrong with being part werewolf? Laurel felt her body pinned to the wall.
The movement was fast and what she realized next was she was between Zara and the hard wall.
"Are you a witch or something?" Zara glared down at her. "How could you decipher in one meeting? There’s nothing about me that reeks of werewolf."
Reeks of werewolf? That made Laurel frown. Was the lady ashamed of her werewolf part? Well, she was in a Kingdom of Lycans.
Laurel sighed audibly, acting unbothered by their position even if she was screaming in her head, worried about Zara’s next action.
"How do I know you’ve a werewolf part? Well, I’m always with a hybrid everyday so I sensed the same with you."
It wasn’t convincing enough but Zara reduced the force she used to pin her. "Hybrid? Those are rare. Where did you see one?"
Laurel blinked. Hybrids were rare? She remembered, Sorren’s father was amongst the few Lycans that accepted werewolves and Lycans as one. With his kingdom gone, hybrids will be rare again.
If she spoke of the hybrid she knew, it would lead to Zara knowing she was a werewolf.
Still Laurel would risk it to convince the lady that having a werewolf part wasn’t bad.
"Prince Sorren of Black Claws Pack. Younger Brother to Alpha Stefan of Black Claws Pack. I’m their guest."
Quickly, Zara retrieved her arm from Laurel’s body, like it was a crime to touch her. It should be. After all she was a guest to the Lycan males that had greatly piqued her interest.
It must be fate that she brought this girl to her then. She smirked. "Ah, so you were their guest. I didn’t see you at the ball though?"
Laurel adjusted her dress that had been crumpled by the awkward position Zara put her in.
"I was there, tasting every snack on the table. I saw you in your red dress surrounded by men so I let you be. We’re not friends, after all." She subtly gave the details of the ball and Zara’s dress as proof she was actually there.
Zara nodded, convinced. "We could be friends though. You are connected to Sorren and Stefan, so I want you."
What? Laurel backed away. "Want me for what?" How many creepy Lycans would she see in one day?
Zara licked her lips seductively, making Laurel panic more. "Tell me what kind of a woman Sorren likes."
"The type that hasn’t been born." was what Laurel wanted to say but she remained quiet.
"And yes," Zara continued, spreading her hands apart, "I am indeed part werewolf. A hybrid mother and Lycan father."
Laurel nodded in understanding.
"My mother was part of Sorren’s father Kingdom before she met my father. That’s how I knew of those two." Zara walked out of the room again. "Come with me."
Laurel’s eyes had begun looking around for an escape route. What good would she be to a lady that wanted Sorren? She didn’t know what type of ladies enticed him.
Her eyes landed on a window at the left, Zara was already ahead, swinging her hips excitedly as she walked.
Laurel narrowed her eyes down the building. It wasn’t high and there weren’t many people there. She didn’t want to look like a thief escaping the brothel.
When Zara cornered to another room, Laurel took the chance and dived down from the window. She landed on both feet and begun running.
She tapped strength from Elma and increased her pace.
"Laurel, I don’t think the chase is so serious that you’d borrow my strength—"
"We are dealing with a Beta’s daughter here! All the Beta daughters I’ve ever met were weird, really! We need to run!" Laurel informed.
Elma stayed quiet before asking. "You are only hurrying because you are hungry, right?"
At that moment, Laurel’s stomach grumbled, she sniffed. "Well, yes. That too."
