Chapter 137: Side Story: Morin in the Republic of Mara (Part 1)
After causing trouble at Gabriel’s estate, Morin was ordered by his parents to study abroad in the Republic of Mara.
Honestly, he was filled with nothing but anxiety—there was no source of comfort, no one he could rely on.
It was only natural to be afraid when being sent alone to a foreign country where he knew no one.
Morin had never been away from his parents’ side before.
The farthest he’d ever gone was to go to another Dragon Man Territory.
He had never expected to go somewhere so far away that returning on his own would be impossible.
"We’ve arrived."
Led by Sir Qi Yu, the Demon Queen of Republic of Mara who had come to escort him, Morin felt as though he had just passed through a long, dark tunnel.
In truth, it was a form of spatial transportation used by the Republic of Mara, but the sensation felt exactly like traveling through a tunnel.
When the space opened up before him, the view that entered his vision was entirely unfamiliar.
The city was very well-organized.
The streets were paved with stone, there were street lamps, and the houses looked immaculate.
However, there were no trees or plants.
The greenery could be seen in places that looked like parks, but elsewhere it was scarce.
The Drakthar Dominion where the Dragon Man lives was different.
There was an abundance of greenery even in the cities, it was filled with a bright and open atmosphere.
While major cities had paved roads, in many other areas the earth was bare.
Morin truly realized then that he had arrived somewhere entirely unknown.
The weight of that realization settled in his chest like fear, loneliness, and sorrow all at once.
"You look worried."
Suddenly being addressed, Morin turned toward the voice.
Qi Yu was smiling wryly.
He was a friend of his mother’s—someone who had also come to this world from another world.
But his aura was entirely different.
Unlike his mother, who was like a warm sunbeam, Qi Yu carried a sharpness about him.
He gave off the impression that someone who could never let their guard down around him.
"Are you feeling cautious?"
"It’s not that..."
"You’re just like Xinghui—unable to tell a lie."
Qi Yu chuckled gently and motioned for him to come inside from the castle terrace.
Morin followed his lead and stepped in.
The castles all shared similar construction, but the people walking through this one were entirely different.
The horns atop their heads marked them as a demons.
Their shapes varied greatly, and the colors ranged from white to black, silver to red.
The unfamiliarity drew Morin’s eyes, and he couldn’t help but stare.
"Are the demons really that fascinating?"
"Eh?"
"You’ve been staring—at their horns."
Being called out on it, Morin’s face flushed with heat.
The idea that he’d been gawking like a tourist made him want to sink into the floor.
"Each of those horns is a point of pride. In a way, they’re like sex symbols."
"Sex symbols?"
So, they were used to showcase one’s appeal?
As someone who are not from the Republic of Mara, Morin couldn’t quite understand the allure.
But still, the variety in shape and color was undeniably interesting to look at.
"Large, powerful horns are symbols of masculinity and strength. Twisted, singular horns can be beautiful, don’t you think? The ones curled like a ram’s come in various sizes and shapes, and are judged for their quality. Smaller ones are considered cute."
"So it’s a charm only the demons really understands?"
"More or less," Qi Yu said with a chuckle.
Despite being human—and from another world at that—he himself likely didn’t fully grasp the sexiness of horns either.
Eventually, Qi Yu led Morin into a large office inside the castle.
There were two demons already there.
One was a stately figure with long black hair, a dark complexion, and a stern expression.
His sharp purple eyes gave off a mysterious aura.
Standing beside him was another man with the same lustrous black hair and bronzed skin.
His cool purple eyes mirrored the first man’s, though his features carried a more androgynous beauty, with a refined air that even slightly resembled Qi Yu.
"Morin, let me introduce you," Qi Yu said.
"That’s my husband in the back—King Malrik, the ruler of this country."
The tall man with long hair stepped forward.
His golden, twisted horns resembled those of a mighty bull—strong and regal.
With a warm smile, he extended his hand for a handshake.
Morin, tense but polite, accepted it.
"Welcome to our Republic of Mara, Morin. Yu has told me about you. I’m sure you’ll find many aspects of our culture unfamiliar, but I hope you’ll have a fulfilling time studying here. If you ever need help, don’t hesitate to come to me."
"Thank you very much for your kind words," Morin replied.
Morin did his best to behave like royalty.
He wasn’t especially good at it, but as someone who would appear in public from time to time, he knew it was necessary.
"This is my son, Malvis."
At Qi Yu’s call, a man with dark hair and bronze skin approached.
His features were refined and graceful, with a quiet allure about him.
His purple eyes met Morin’s and, just for a moment, he gave a charming smile that seemed naturally warm and inviting.
"Nice to meet you, Morin. I’ve been looking forward to your arrival ever since I heard you’d be coming. I’ll be your guide while you’re here. We’ll also be living together, so I hope we get along well."
"Wait, living together?"
It made sense that he would act as a guide—they were both royalty, and while Malvis looked a bit older, the age gap wasn’t too large.
That arrangement seemed natural.
But living together?
"The truth is, no one is allowed to stay in the castle without special permission," Qi Yu explained.
"There’s a gate connecting us to the Lux Theocracy, and certain rules come with that. But don’t worry, we always make arrangements for guests to stay with trustworthy people. It would be strange, though, to send someone off to stay with no one to receive them—so Malvis will accompany you."
