Chapter 138: Side Story: Morin in the Republic of Mara (Part 2)

"I see..."

It wasn’t perfect, but the logic more or less connected.

Morin looked up at Malvis again.

Their eyes met, and Malvis gave him a playful smile and a wink.

It suited him so well that Morin’s heart skipped a beat.

"Well then, let’s get going. A spatial jump would be the fastest."

"Mother, doesn’t that kind of defeat the purpose of a study abroad?"

Malvis chuckled at Qi Yu’s immediate suggestion to teleport them.

Then he stepped beside Morin, who still looked unsure.

"Exploring the city is part of the experience, isn’t it? We’ll walk."

"It’s a hassle, though."

"If you think walking fifteen minutes is a hassle, you won’t get anywhere in this country," Malvis said with a soft smile, gazing down at him.

His gentle purple eyes were focused only on Morin, and it made Morin’s heart flutter again.

"Do you tired, Morin?"

"Huh? No, I’m okay."

"Good. I’ll give you a brief tour of the city as we walk. Your lodging is right off the main street, so you won’t get lost."

Although they weren’t holding hands or anything, Morin naturally found himself following behind Malvis.

He gave a respectful bow to Qi Yu and Malrik, then joined Malvis’s side.

The streets of the city left Morin feeling uneasy.

The carriages were sleek and black, the roads paved neatly with stone.

It was orderly, clean—even beautiful—but maybe too beautiful.

It lacked warmth.

"You keep glancing around. Is everything that unusual?" Malvis asked from beside him.

"Huh?"

Malvis was watching him closely, almost as if peering into his thoughts.

Morin quickly looked away, feeling exposed.

"The layout is just so different from the cities in the Drakhtar Dominion. It makes me a little restless."

"My mother told me the cities in the Drakhtar Dominion are full of greenery. However, I wouldn’t know myself, since I’ve never left this city."

"Really?"

That struck a chord.

Morin hadn’t left his homeland either.

The thought brought a strange sense of closeness, and for the first time, Malvis didn’t feel quite so far away or out of reach.

Morin looked up at him and smiled, happy with the connection.

"I’ve never been outside my own country either. So I get it... It’s scary. But if you’re like me, then that makes me feel a little better."

When he smiled, Malvis’s eyes widened slightly in surprise.

Then he quickly looked away.

Morin felt a twinge of disappointment.

Did I say something wrong? Maybe calling them the same was too much?

"Malvis, did I say something that upset you?"

"Huh?"

"You looked away... Sorry. I’m not always good at reading things like that. If I said something weird, tell me. I want to fix it."

Morin remembered how his older brother, Kaelion, always told him to be more considerate of others’ feelings.

"Words can hurt, even if you don’t mean them to," Kaelion had said. "People forgive you because you’re still a child and don’t mean harm—but that won’t always be the case."

Did I upset him? Morin glance at Malvis again, worried.

Malvis seemed to mumble something softly, his ears just faintly tinged red.

Morin couldn’t catch the words, though.

"It’s nothing bad," Malvis finally said. "You just caught me off guard, that’s all. I wasn’t expecting that. I thought maybe you’d traveled before—for diplomacy or a vacation or something."

"Nope. I haven’t. My eldest brother is the talented one. With someone like me—the spoiled youngest kid in the family—it’d only get in the way."

As he spoke, Morin felt ashamed of himself.

In the end, he didn’t have the power to stand as a true prince.

The people who gathered around him always felt shallow—just background noise, never anything more.

While he stood there, his head lowered, a hand gently landed on his hair.

Looking up, he saw Malvis watching him with a look full of quiet concern.

"Don’t make that face," Malvis said softly. "We’ve only just met, but I really want you to enjoy yourself here. I want you to grow to love this country."

Malvis was far more composed and dependable than Morin.

They might be close in age, but Malvis seemed so much more mature.

Morin couldn’t lift his head.

He didn’t even know why he had come to this place anymore.

Of course, it was partly a form of reflection.

But when his father had told him, "Go and learn something important," Morin still hadn’t been able to grasp what that really meant.

They arrived at a building facing the main street—an apartment complex, with four buildings arranged in a square around a central courtyard, each rising four stories high.

But Malvis led Morin further, climbing past the fourth floor to a space on the rooftop.

When the door opened, it was hard to believe this was the top of a building.

"Whoa..."

A breath escaped him in awe.

A vast sky garden stretched out before him—an open rooftop filled with carefully manicured hedges and flower beds, all surrounding a flowing fountain.

At the center stood a pristine white mansion.

"This is your lodging for the year," Malvis said.

"This is incredible... Is it one of your mother’s private estates?"

Or maybe even the crown prince’s residence?

But Malvis shook his head with a laugh.

"No, this used to be the residence of a former royal official. If I remember right, he’s over 800 years old now."

"800!?"

That had to be some ancient, creaky old grandpa!

The Dragon Man didn’t live nearly that long.

Only demons, with their average lifespan of around a thousand years, could make that kind of age seem normal.

Morin braced himself, nervous about what kind of elder would appear.

But the person who greeted them at the entrance blew all of Morin’s expectations away.

"Well, so this is the little dragon boy? Quite the charming sight, isn’t he?"

The man who greeted them looked like he was in his thirties—young, handsome, and entirely elegant.

He had long white hair, flawless pale skin, and small golden horns like a bull’s, sprouting from his high forehead.
