Chapter 135: Side Story: One Day In Qi Yu Life (Part 2)

He was a complicated person, but Qi Yu didn’t mind that.

"I actually brought a little something with me," Qi Yu said. "I had tea with a friend from the Dragon Man yesterday. They gave me some leftover sweets. Want to have tea?"

At that, Nabe flinched ever so slightly.

He knew exactly how rare and delicious Shen Xinghui’s sweets were.

Shen Xinghui is the queen of the Black Dragon Royal family and just like Qi Yu, he is also someone who had come from another world.

They had met by chance during the time Qi Yu was desperately trying to break Malrik’s curse.

Overwhelmed by nostalgia, they’d shared many things about themselves, and Shen Xinghui, moved by concern, had continued inviting Qi Yu to his tea party ever since.

Before long, the two of them were seated in the garden for their little tea party.

A variety of sweets were laid out in front of them: fruit tarts with orange and grapefruit, brownies, black tea chiffon cake, and strawberry daifuku.

Shen Xinghui truly had a knack for baking and cooking.

And perhaps under the influence of his fellow mom-friend and sweets enthusiast, Nikolai, his skills had only continued to grow.

"These are really delicious," Nabe murmured.

"I’ll be sure to tell him," Qi Yu replied.

Shen Xinghui would surely be delighted to hear it.

As they sipped tea and nibbled on sweets, conversation flowed naturally—light, unassuming.

But then Nabe’s tone shifted slightly, as he brought up something that caught Qi Yu’s attention.

"There’s some unrest in the forest along the border, isn’t there?"

Qi Yu tilted his head. "Is there?"

Nabe nodded his head, looking troubled.

"According to Noel, there’s movement from both large and mid-sized monsters. Although it’s just Rank B monsters, but still."

Noel was the commander in charge of the monster subjugation unit in the Republic of Mara.

Among the typically calm, courteous demon race, Noel stood out for being aggressive, lazy, and seductive.

Qi Yu liked him—after all, Noel used to be his partner back in his darker days.

"Shall we have a go for old times’ sake?" Qi Yu asked casually.

"You’re actually going out there?"

"That guy probably passed that intel to you expecting I’d come to him."

With a small laugh, Qi Yu finished his tea and headed straight to the demon army headquarters.

Although the demon race disliked conflict, the same couldn’t be said for the lands surrounding them.

This region was steeped in dark-type energy, and it regularly drew in powerful monsters with darkness attributes.

The military was split into two main groups: the City Guard, which maintained public order within the city, and the Monster Subjugation Unit, which dealt with threats outside the city limits.

A barrier stood between the city and the surrounding forest, making it rare for any creature to breach it and cause damage.

Qi Yu was looking for someone in the subjugation unit.

At headquarters—where most of the night-shift personnel were still present—Qi Yu finally found him.

The man had loose black hair and curved, horn-like protrusions resembling those of a sheep, matching the same inky shade.

His face had an alluring, almost decadent beauty.

His eyes, a blend of violet and pink, looked toward Qi Yu and a smirk formed on his well-shaped lips.

"Well, well, long time no see, Yu," he purred.

"It has been a while, Noel," Qi Yu responded with a calm smile.

Tall and lean with a well-toned frame, the man greeted Qi Yu with an amused smile.

That subtly seductive presence could only belong to Noel, the squad leader of the Monster Subjugation Unit.

With traces of incubus blood in him, his very being seemed to radiate lustful charm.

"You’re quick to pick up intel," Noel said.

"Well, you leaked it to Nabe for that exact reason, didn’t you?" Qi Yu replied, grinning.

"As expected of you," Noel said with a faint smile. "So? Do you want to help me?"

Noel’s voice was laid-back and drawn out, but his gaze was razor-sharp.

Qi Yu gave a nod in return.

"Of course I’ll help. That’s why I came."

"Much appreciated."

"But first, I’ll pay my respects to Marx."

With that, Qi Yu decided to visit Marx, the Supreme Commander of the Demon Army, and brought Noel along for the greeting.

That night, a large-scale sweep operation was launched.

They had intentionally slain a monster beforehand and left its carcass out in the open to lure others in.

According to the scouts, the scent of blood had already begun attracting a crowd.

"We’ve confirmed four large-aize and six mid-size monsters."

"Surround them and set up a barrier," Noel ordered in his usual lazy tone. "Just don’t let any of them get out."

Behind him, Qi Yu readied his weapon, reacquainting himself with the familiar feel of the blade.

It had been a while, but it felt good in his hands.

"You look like you’re enjoying yourself," Noel said with a smirk. "You should come back, Qi Yu."

Qi Yu returned the smirk.

It was true—he felt the thrill in his chest.

But when he thought about the person who would greet him with furrowed brows and concern, he couldn’t fully agree with Noel’s sentiment.

"Being a queen must be boring, huh?" Noel continued. "If you came back, it’d make my life easier."

"It is boring," Qi Yu admitted. "But I want to avoid making Malrik sad if I can."

"So, what about tonight?"

"Let’s just call this a state of emergency."

With mischievous smiles, the two of them stepped inside the magical barrier.

Inside, it was already like a monster’s den.

Most of them were low-level monsters, but they were swarming.

"There’s a lot of them," Noel remarked.

"I’ll scatter them."

Without hesitation, Qi Yu darted into the horde of undead monsters.

The sword he wielded was a replica of one he had used in the past.

It was a long sword, it had a sharp, clean edge that sliced smoothly through the air.
