Chapter 134: Side Story: One Day In Qi Yu Life (Part 1)

Qi Yu always woke a little after the sun had risen.

The very first joy of his day was sitting up and quietly savoring the sleeping face of the beloved Demon King beside him.

His husband, Malrik—the king of the demon race—had a remarkably handsome face.

His features were sharply defined, with deep yet elegant contours that felt just right, never too strong.

His skin was dusky, and his long black hair cascaded over a body as chiseled as a sculpture.

Watching him sleep was, in a word, beautiful.

No one had ever slept so vulnerably beside Qi Yu before.

After all, he had lived a life as an assassin—most who lay beside him were cold by the next morning.

That was always his doing, of course.

For someone like him, who had used even his body as a weapon, this warm presence beside him each morning was a rare and precious thing.

Malrik was the first person who had ever needed him.

The first to tell him, "I love you."

Qi Yu, who had been hidden away at birth, unregistered, and whose very existence had never been acknowledged—alive or dead—had, for the first time, been treated as a person in this world.

Malrik had been bewildered by how Qi Yu was startled and confused by even the most ordinary kindnesses.

Perhaps that was why Qi Yu, for the first time in his life, felt a truly human emotion: the desire to live for someone else.

At the time, Malrik had been afflicted by a curse.

If he ever conceived a child with someone he loved, the moment the child was born, the mother would die in a brutal, agonizing death.

Qi Yu had not expected his own demise to come from being torn apart from within and having his heart crushed.

It had certainly been a rare experience.

Not knowing of the curse, Malrik had lost his first partner and their child.

Qi Yu, half-threatening him, insisted on bearing a child for him—and thus died.

But through that death, he was able to meet the origin of the curse.

It had been cast by a god—the Sovereign of the Skies, and Malrik’s divine counterpart.

Qi Yu had expected someone rigid and unfeeling, but the Sovereign of the Skies turned out to be fragile and kind.

Overcome by emotion, he had cast the curse without fully understanding its consequences and now wept, unable to undo it.

The curse’s complexity mirrored the Sovereign of the Skies’s tangled emotions, and the strength of those feelings had fueled the curse’s intensity.

When Malrik lost his first partner, he had lashed out in fury and obliterated the Sovereign of the Skies’s physical form, leaving him too damaged to manifest in the mortal world.

Qi Yu had comforted the weeping god, curled up and sobbing in his divine realm, and together they had slowly unraveled the curse.

At last, the two divine beings reconciled.

Qi Yu’s current body was originally one that the Sovereign of the Skies had been reconstructing to serve as his new vessel.

Qi Yu’s soul was transferred into it, allowing him to now remain by Malrik’s side.

As he smiled at the memory, he lightly poked Malrik’s cheek.

The Demon King’s amethyst-colored eyes opened faintly and gazed at him.

Qi Yu let himself be drawn into an embrace, the soft touch of Malrik’s lips bringing him a sweet comfort.

This, too, was part of his morning happiness.

"You’re up early, Yu," Malrik murmured.

"Am I?" Qi Yu chuckled. "Good morning, Malrik."

"Yeah. Good morning."

Qi Yu brushed a lock of hair from Malrik’s forehead and gently touched his regal golden horns.

When he stroked the base—clearly a sensitive spot—Malrik’s fierce eyes narrowed slightly, and then he pulled Qi Yu in for a deeper kiss.

"Don’t tease me like that in the morning," Malrik growled, voice thick and sultry. "It makes me want you."

"We have a morning meeting," Qi Yu reminded him.

"I know. But when you keep rubbing the base of my horns like that, it’s hard to resist. Save it for tonight."

That velvety tone was intoxicating, and if the morning meeting weren’t in two hours, Qi Yu might have gladly given in.

Still, he returned Malrik’s kisses with indulgent affection, letting their tongues intertwine before reluctantly drawing the line for the morning.

"You really are a bad boy," Malrik said with a smirk.

"I’ll make it up to you properly when we have more time," Qi Yu replied with a playful smile.

With a small laugh, Malrik watched as Qi Yu swiftly got ready for the day.

While Malrik handled his royal duties, Qi Yu was typically left with little to do.

Although he bore the title of a Demon Queen, he didn’t often involve himself in the affairs of state.

His role lay in a different realm entirely.

At times like this, Qi Yu often made his way to an apartment along the main street.

On its rooftop lived a retired high-ranking official—though more accurately, a meddlesome man who had always taken care of him.

Despite grumbling every time Qi Yu showed up, the man always ended up letting him in.

"Qi Yu, you shouldn’t travel through the darkness like that. You’re only human. What if you couldn’t make it back?"

"I’ll be fine, Nabe. If that ever happens, I’m sure my beloved Demon King will come find me."

Qi Yu disliked walking around in public, so he often used the same transportation methods as the demon race, that’s by tearing open space itself and creating portals to jump from one location to another.

In addition to the assassin skills he’d originally possessed, Qi Yu had gained an overwhelming affinity for dark magic in this world.

Once he grasped the basics, he could use even the highest-tier dark magic with ease.

It came in handy more often than not.

Nabe, whose full name is Naberius was a striking man with silver-white hair, whose refined appearance gave off a cold impression.
