" Not bad. Cost quite a large amount of money but it’s worth it "

Kailen stared at the interior of the establishment and nodded in satisfaction. He had managed to leave the slum planet he was previously on through a teleportation gate .

Currently ,he was in one of the urban planets of the capital, a highly developed district of the capital.

The house he had bought was extremely large , and comfortable for him. It was also located around a beach and forest. After all,Kailen was someone who strangely preferred serene environments.

He would be staying here using his disguised identity till he enrolled in the Astral Empire Academy.

He slumped on the large sofa in the room and thought back to his encounter with the unknown assailant.

He remembered how she held the neck of the fellow and he died - turned into a dried husky version of his former self .

" Strange" He thought.

" Could the fellow’s affinity be similar to phantom’s?. I remember Phantom’s affinity has a similar effect on his opponents"

" No" The Time Dilation Artifact appeared before him.

Kailen almost slapped himself for being stupid.

He could ask her about it . But on second thought who could blame him.

She had been oddly silent at certain inquiries he made , claiming she was watching drama all the time.

Kailen figured she probably didn’t want to spoon-feed him all the time .

Anyways since she had made an appearance ,it meant she had something to say right?

" The affinity of Phantom is different. It’s a poison affinity. However the creature you just encountered is called a vimodial contractor "

Kailen listened with rapt attention.

The time dilation artifact ,continued-noticing his focused demeanor .

" Vimodials are strange creatures that have been a threat to all sentient races in the universe. They are beings that thrive on feeding on the life force of sentient lifeforms in the universe. It was due to Vimodials that the Universe Alliance, an alliance between all races in the universe aimed at getting rid of the vimodials was founded -despite the differences,discriminations and frictions between the races in the universe. It tells you how much of a threat they are- If races that may have been at each other’s throats even have to clench their teeth and set aside their differences for the sake of survival and band together against a singular entity"

"Vimodials do not have physical forms "

A hologram appeared before Kailen, showing him how a Vimodial looked like.

An ethereal looking humanoid figure floating above the ground, its body made of swirling mist. It had no solid flesh-just hazy outlines that shifted like smoke. Its eyes glowed faintly from within the fog, giving it an eerie presence. Every movement left trails of vapor in the air, like it was part ghost, part cloud.

Kailen stared at the creature in the hologram, engraving it in his mind.

"This is how they look like. In this form, they cannot harm anyone. However they become extremely troublesome after they form what is referred to as a contract with sentient lifeforms"

" Beings that have formed contracts with Vimodials are referred to as Vimodial Contractors ,or in simple terms ,contractors"

"The contract simply implies that the vimodial will channel its ability to the contractor to help the contractor grow stronger. All Vimodials though, have one ability, to devour life essence of beings to grow stronger. The vimodial contractor gains the ability to absorb the life essence of sentient lifeforms"

"The more life essence the contractor drains -the more the contractor uses the Vimodial’s ability, the stronger the contractor becomes and the more the Vimodial gain the ability to possess and take control of the contractor’s consciousness and body"

"After the individual uses the power of the vimodial to a certain point, the vimodial takes over completely, eroding the consciousness of the contractor, taking over the being of the contractor in their full form. If the contractor had an affinity before the Vimodial contract was formed,the Vimodial utilizes that affinity too ,in addition to their ability to absorb the life essence of sentient lifeforms in the universe to grow stronger "

"They traverse regions in the universe, causing mass destruction ,leaving the worlds in ruins. They plunder the life essence of the world core, living the world destroyed. In fact even the Vimodial contractors ,before the vimodials completely take over their beings, are very troublesome.

Usually, Vimodials rarely completely take over the beings of their contractors below the Dao level"

" The Vimodial contractors are therefore mostly fought on the front lines of the battlefield in low tier civilations,as beings at the dao level-be it sentient lifeforms or dao level vimodials who have taken over the sentience of their dao level contractors ,are not really seen in low tier civilations"

Kailen digested all the information ,extremely shocked.

" Terrifying" He couldn’t help but mutter when he thought of what would happen to his loved ones if a supreme stage galactic level vimodial contractor descended upon earth at his current level, and there was no one to intervene.

He couldn’t help but feel a strong sense of danger and urgency to grow stronger when he thought of what would have happened if the contractor he had encountered was a supreme stage galactic lifeform.

Kailen honestly didn’t care about what would happen to the universe as long as himself, his loved ones were safe.

To him, whether or not the Vimodials were a threat to the universe was not his business.

The universe was a dog eat dog place. The Vimodials simply had their path to power and he didn’t care about how it affected others in the universe.

But he cared about how it affected him and those he loved.

There was a possibility that Vimodials and their contractors woukd definitely come for him, those he loved and earthlings if he didn’t increase his strength.

If they have plundered civilisations and laid waste to regions in the universe, he would be an idiot to think it couldn’t happen to him and those he loved,and to earth.

It would be completely idiotic to rely on the empire for strength. The happenings in the slums was a perfect reminder that no one truly gave a fuck.

If the royal family was under the siege of the vimodial contractors and Vimodials one day, would they have the time to think about some planet?

Heck, they’d even sacrifice the citizens of the empire if it would mean their own survival .

Personal strength was always the surrest way to be safe in this crooked and savage universe.

Kailen felt so weak, so fucking weak.

He had to grow stronger.
