Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Lyra’s temptation

Eiden and Lyra walked side by side, their bodies so close that half of them were touching, almost like a couple lost in their own world. Eiden could feel the softness of her figure against him the subtle warmth of her body radiating through the thin layers of clothing. And Lyra? She could feel it all too. The tension, the butterflies, the heat. Her heart was racing faster than her steps.

As they continued through the winding haunted house maze, the atmosphere shifted from eerie silence to sudden fright again and again. Sometimes they encountered dead ends, other times they triggered hidden traps spring-loaded ghosts, mannequins with distorted faces, shrieking horror creatures leaping from shadows. Eiden, after a while, had grown mostly used to it. The sudden surprises barely made him flinch now. But Lyra? Her reactions never changed. Every time something popped out, she screamed like it was her first time, clutching Eiden’s arm like a lifeline.

Eiden glanced at her, puzzled. Huh? I thought she said she was okay with horror stuff. Was she just pretending to be brave earlier?

Meanwhile, Lyra’s thoughts were spiraling in a different direction entirely. I’m such a bad girl... I can’t believe I’m taking advantage of Eiden’s kindness. I’ve already gotten used to these jumpscares, but I keep pretending just so I can jump into his arms again. I know it’s wrong... but I just can’t resist... Alright, alright I’ll stop now. For real.

But temptation had a mind of its own. A few more cautious steps into the dim hallway and suddenly Snap! Eiden stepped on a hidden tripwire. "BOOO!!!" A ghostly figure sprang out from the wall beside him. Before Eiden could even blink properly, Lyra had already jumped onto him again, her arms wrapped tightly around him. Eiden blinked, mildly startled by the ghost, but far more curious about the girl clinging to him.

Wait a second... the ghost popped out from my side. Then... shouldn’t she have turned the other way? Lyra, pressing her cheek against his chest, silently screamed in her mind. Oh nooo! I did it again! I said I’d stop and yet...

But her guilt melted under the comfort of Eiden’s presence. The rhythm of his calm heartbeat, the warmth of his chest it was addicting. Her thoughts drifted.

How I wish he’d hug me like this forever...

After a few seconds, Eiden cleared his throat. "Lyra... the ghost is gone now." Reluctantly, she lifted her head, her face flushed as she gave him a small nod. They resumed walking, this time in silence. The path grew less complex now, fewer corners and branching routes signs that they were nearing the end of the haunted maze.

Eiden increased his pace a little, eager to exit, but Lyra, on the other hand, slowed down. She was hoping praying even for just one more jumpscare. One more chance to cling to him again.

But fate had something better in store. Just as they rounded the final corridor, the floor trembled beneath their feet. Panels shifted and clicked, and a loud distorted voice echoed through the chamber:

"ESCAPE BEFORE THE CHAINSAW MAN CATCHES YOU!"

A sudden BLOP! a figure in a grimy apron and metal mask dropped from the ceiling, revving a chainsaw that roared louder than the screams that followed. The floor began shaking violently, making it difficult to keep balance. Eiden and Lyra exchanged a glance one part fear, one part excitement and bolted forward.

The Chainsaw Man lunged after them. Eiden ran ahead, weaving as best he could despite the trembling ground. Lyra followed closely, occasionally stumbling. Eiden reached out to steady her once or twice, and she grabbed onto his hand without thinking. The sound of the chainsaw roared closer. Every misstep made their hearts pound louder.

"Almost there!" Eiden shouted. With one final push, they both dove through the exit curtain, rolling onto the ground just outside. The doors behind them slammed shut, muffling the sound of the mechanical terror within.

Both of them lay there on the pavement, panting heavily, lungs burning but spirits exhilarated. "Haaa... That... was intense," Eiden managed between breaths. Lyra nodded rapidly, her chest rising and falling. "I thought we were goners!"

They turned to each other at the same time. Their eyes met, and in that shared moment of adrenaline-fueled survival, they both burst into laughter. Real, genuine, from-the-heart laughter. "He looked so fake though!" Eiden laughed. "But the chainsaw! It was real!" Lyra added through giggles.

Their laughter echoed for a few moments longer until Eiden stood up and extended his hand to her. Lyra, smiling warmly now, placed her palm in his and stood.

The air between them felt different lighter, warmer. "That was fun," Eiden said, rubbing the back of his neck. "Wanna rest for a bit?"

Lyra hesitated for only a second, her earlier shyness briefly returning, but she smiled and nodded. "Sure." They made their way to a nearby bench and sat down, their shoulders just barely brushing once again. "So," Eiden began, turning slightly toward her with a teasing grin, "you said you were okay with horror stuff. But no matter how I look at it, that didn’t seem very okay."

Lyra pouted slightly and nudged him with her elbow. "I was just surprised, alright? I’m fine watching horror movies." Eiden smirked. "Yeah, watching movies while crying." She glared at him playfully, causing Eiden to break into another chuckle. She tried to hold back, but ended up laughing too. There was a warmth between them now, born not just from fear or clinging during jump scares, but from laughter, shared moments, and the strange magic of amusement park chaos.

After a few minutes of chatting and watching the night sky settle above, they stood up together. "Wanna go see a movie?" Eiden asked. Lyra’s eyes lit up. "Yeah, let’s go."

Inside the cinema hall, the ambiance shifted again this time to soft lighting, cool air, and a cozy atmosphere. They found their seats and settled in. Eiden sat to Lyra’s left. As the movie began, their hands rested on the shared armrest awkwardly close.

Eiden noticed her fingers twitching slightly, as if unsure whether to retreat or reach out , she couldn’t make an excuse to hold his hands as they weren’t walking and no chance or being lost and yhey weren’t watching haunted movie so she had no idea how to approach. He turned his head just a bit and caught the way she peeked at his hand from the corner of her eye. He smiled softly. Without a word, Eiden reached out and gently took her hand, interlocking their fingers.

Lyra stiffened at first surprised but then her lips slowly parted into a delighted smile. Her heart thumped in her chest as she held back the giddiness blooming inside her. She turned her eyes back to the screen, but it was clear she was no longer paying attention to the film.

Her focus was on the hand she now held warm, steady, real. And for the rest of the movie, Lyra sat there quietly, hand in hand with Eiden, a happy gleam in her eyes.
