Chapter 60: Chapter 60 : Accidentally success

Hand in hand, they enjoyed the movie. Eiden was genuinely immersed, eyes flicking across the screen as the plot unfolded. He chuckled at the right parts, tensed at the suspenseful moments, and even whispered an occasional comment under his breath. But while the film played a prominent role for him, Lyra’s enjoyment stemmed from something far more delicate.

For Lyra, eighty percent of the joy came from simply holding Eiden’s hand. Her fingers were interlocked with his, warm and trembling ever so slightly. Her heart was thumping loudly, almost embarrassingly so, and her face refused to hide the happiness bubbling inside her. A grin curled at her lips, refusing to disappear, and her eyes shone like little stars reflecting the movie’s glow. To anyone watching, she looked like a girl living her dream moment and that wouldn’t be far from the truth.

When the movie finally ended, the lights brightened and people began shuffling out of the theater. Eiden stood up first, casually but what Lyra noticed most was that he didn’t let go of her hand. Not even for a second.

Still holding her hand with the same gentle grip, he turned to her and led the way out. She obediently followed, her heartbeat picking up again. They stepped out of the theater into the cooling air of the early evening. The sky had begun shifting from golden to shades of deep orange and purple the sun slowly dipping beyond the horizon, painting the world in a warm farewell.

Eiden looked up at the sky, then glanced at Lyra beside him. "Wanna go to a high place and see the sunset?" Her eyes lit up immediately. "Yes! I want to!" She replied with such enthusiasm that even Eiden chuckled slightly. Without a second thought, they made their way to a nearby tower one used for bird-viewing during the day, now serving as a perfect quiet spot for sunset watching.

Once they reached the top, the view was stunning. The orange light bathed everything below them. The trees cast long shadows, the roofs glowed like fire-tinted glass, and the clouds rolled lazily across the sky. It felt like time had slowed.

Eiden and Lyra leaned against the railing side by side, taking in the vast view. As Lyra stared at the glowing horizon in awe, Eiden’s gaze drifted toward her. With the soft, warm light of the sunset hitting her face, and the wind gently blowing her hair, she looked almost magical. There was a calm grace in the way her eyes shimmered with wonder.

Eiden smiled naturally, saying nothing, simply turning his gaze back toward the horizon. But Lyra noticed. She, too, glanced at him in return, her heart skipping again. But she couldn’t bring herself to stare long she got shy, cheeks tinting pink, and quickly looked away.

As the sun slowly vanished and darkness began to fall, they remained at the tower. The world below them, instead of darkening, began to glow with vibrant life.

The park below was illuminated brighter than before. Rides spun in glimmering arcs, stalls beamed with multicolored lights, and hanging lamps shimmered like stars suspended at eye-level. Benches were glowing softly, even the floor tiles radiated a faint neon shine. It was breathtaking.

They decided to stay a bit longer, to wait for the fireworks. To pass the time, they descended and strolled through the park. It had turned into a festival of color. They explored several stalls, sampled snacks, and played games ust like any ordinary couple might do on a magical night.

One of the stalls caught their attention: a shooting game, lined with plush dolls and colorful prizes. "Let’s try this one," Lyra said, eyes twinkling.

The game was simple: seven targets. Four large ones would reward the player with couple keychains two cute characters holding hands. Then there were two smaller targets that would earn a doll of the shooter’s choice. And finally, a tiny target so small it seemed impossible to hit. The prize for that one was unknown.

Lyra stepped up with determination. She aimed carefully and tried her luck at the easiest of the four big targets. Her goal was clear she wanted those couple keychains.

Bang. Miss. Bang. Miss again.

She continued firing, one after another ten bullets in total. Her focus was intense, her posture firm but somehow, every shot barely missed. "Awww..." Lyra pouted, lips curving into disappointment. "I missed all of them..."

She lowered the gun, clearly disheartened. Her shoulders slumped, and she bit her lip to stop a sigh.

Eiden stood behind her, watching it all unfold. His expression shifted into a mixture of guilt and awkwardness. As a man, I’d really love to help her out here... he thought. But if I step up and miss every shot, that’d just be embarrassing... I’m bad at shooting games let alone real shooting...

He walked closer and tried to cheer her up. "It’s okay. I think I saw something familiar at a shop earlier... maybe we can just buy one?"

Lyra looked up at him. Though she still looked a little disappointed, she nodded slowly. "Okay." As they turned to walk away, the game stall owner called out. "There’s one bullet left."

Eiden paused. "Huh?" He looked back and pointed at the sign. "But I thought it said ten bullets?"

The man grinned and said, "That’s for normal players. But for couples like you two, it’s eleven."

"Oh... I see," Eiden nodded casually, unfazed.

But beside him, Lyra froze. Her hands immediately flew to her cheeks. Her face turned scarlet. Her mind was spinning.

C-c-couples... The word echoed like a chant inside her brain. Couple. Couple. Eiden and me. Coupleeeeee... She peeked at Eiden shyly. Her imagination had taken off wild and unrestrained. Her thoughts leapt far ahead into the future. Suddenly, she was daydreaming of naming their children. Then thinking of how many they’d have. And then

No! Before kids... marriage! Her inner monologue went into overdrive, picturing the wedding venue, color schemes, dress designs, and Eiden in a sharp suit waiting at the altar.

Meanwhile, Eiden had picked up the gun. He turned toward the stall, aiming. "Well?" he asked, glancing at Lyra. But she didn’t respond. She was far away, lost in her fantasy, mentally rehearsing the wedding vows in her head. Her fingers clutched at her skirt as she smiled goofily to herself, completely unaware of the world around her.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

Suddenly, a bright flashing light hit her face.

She blinked, snapping out of her daydream, and quickly looked toward the stall. The lights were blinking madly the game stall was going off like it had just witnessed a miracle.

She turned her head toward Eiden, and froze.

There he stood, calm and composed, the toy gun still raised in his hand. His eyes were locked onto the targets. He hadn’t moved an inch.
