Chapter 682: Chapter 682

Yang Fan finally understood the reasons behind Lady Liu’s actions.

He had encountered that most ancient of plots: repaying kindness.

But some things do exist in reality, especially as the world in Yang Fan’s eyes became increasingly bizarre and outlandish, and as such, things naturally started to transcend common sense, overturning his previous understanding.

Lady Liu was very serious when she spoke these words, seemingly afraid that Yang Fan might not turn to her for help when in trouble, due to some fears or other reasons. She was almost baring her heart and soul to explain this to Yang Fan.

"Young fella, rest assured, I’m not afraid of trouble; what I fear is having no troubles at all," said Lady Liu, hands on hips and beaming with joy, "I’ve watched this forsaken place for a full three hundred springs and autumns. Do you know what has made me happiest over these years? It’s the arrival of strangers and unfamiliar Wandering Souls."

"These people are like the fleeting blooms in my life; their appearance allows me to hear their stories, adding some color to my unchanging existence. But once these people leave or become one of us here, my days return to their former stillness."

"Standing here, I can see the outside world’s vicissitudes; I’ve witnessed endless chaos, seen wars, observed the struggles of common folks and the decline of great houses, and ultimately witnessed the dawn of a new era, seen the rise of completely foreign things to me, seen those skyscrapers being built layer upon layer."

"However, all of that has nothing to do with me. I am merely an indifferent entity, or perhaps a bystander, to all these changes—anyway, it’s all the same notion. Your Grandmaster once told me that all I should do in the years to come is to manage this small place, cultivate diligently, and avoid getting involved in worldly affairs to evade karmic consequences, which I’ve taken very seriously."

"Three hundred years have passed, and I feel that now I should be able to step out, but alas, when your always scowling Grandmaster left, he did so in such a hurry that I didn’t even have the chance to ask him when exactly it would be the right time to leave."

"But regardless, I feel the time is now."

These were matters that Yang Fan didn’t understand and couldn’t offer any advice on.

"Senior, I understand what you’re saying, but honestly, my ability to attract trouble is top-notch," said Yang Fan.

Lady Liu couldn’t care less and waved her hand dismissively, "Don’t worry, young fella, I’m quite powerful now, and I’m not scared of trouble at all. In fact, I even hope that you could bring me some trouble right now. Did you know? I intend to help the Tianji Sect prosper once again."

At this point, her expression suddenly turned wistful, and she said softly, "When that time comes, I will pay homage at your Grandmaster’s grave..."

Looking into her profound eyes, Yang Fan suddenly felt that there might have been another relationship between his Grandmaster and Lady Liu. Her eyes were clearly filled with deep affection.

This time, he truly had exhausted the influence of his Grandmaster.

Without such a connection, not to mention reaping so many benefits, it would be questionable whether he could leave alive.

"Young fella, it’s okay to be greedy for wealth and pleasure, but you mustn’t be irresponsibly promiscuous. Otherwise, I will personally deal with you," Lady Liu suddenly became serious, her eyes twinkling with mirth as she cautioned Yang Fan.

Yang Fan quickly nodded his head vigorously.

Lady Liu must detest that sort of thing the most, having died over it.

"I’ve given you most of the instructions I needed to. You have chosen a couple of young girls here, so don’t keep the ladies waiting too long," Lady Liu said with a gentle voice.

Yang Fan shook his head repeatedly.

Even if Lady Liu’s tone was ever so gentle, under her watch, how could he dare to go through with it? That was a line he absolutely must not cross.

"No need to worry, I only despise men who frivolously start and end relationships, who toy with emotions, but I don’t object to men enjoying their drink and revelry. Young fella, think about the era I’m from, how could I possibly take such a big issue with it? I also know that in your era, such actions are illegal, but to me, it doesn’t matter," Lady Liu said.

"Of course, the most important thing is, you are my junior, and not a man, why would I have any objections to you doing these things. Don’t worry too much, what’s with you, how can you still be so estranged and fearful of me?"

"Predecessor, doing this under your watch, I feel uncomfortable." Yang Fan said, head bowed.

Lady Liu suddenly laughed merrily, "You, just go ahead, I won’t peek."

"Right, I will suppress the evil aura of this building a bit, just tell them that you have taken care of it. Recently, nature’s spiritual energy has become much denser, causing some fluctuations in my small building and making it difficult to stabilize the energy."

"Thank you, Predecessor." Yang Fan said earnestly.

Lady Liu smiled and waved her hand, "Then go, but remember the things I just told you."

"I remember them," Yang Fan said. "As long as Predecessor really doesn’t think I’m too much of a troublemaker, it’s fine."

"Put away your little concerns, it’s harmless," Lady Liu said with a warm smile, giving a slight nod to Yang Fan.

She seemed to truly treat Yang Fan as one of her own juniors.

That look in her eyes, Yang Fan was very familiar with.

It was the same look his sister-in-law always had when she looked at him.

But for a Ghost King who had just met him, and simply because of his Tianji Sect identity, to treat him like this, Yang Fan still found it somewhat incredible, even considering that Lady Liu had a close relationship with the Grandmaster.

Yang Fan could understand Lady Liu’s actions, but still felt that she was perhaps a bit too... caring.

But it was definitely a good thing.

Yang Fan was just overthinking it for a moment; if Lady Liu really wanted to do something harmful to him, she could have done so long ago without any trouble.

The scene before his eyes slowly faded away like ripples on water, including Lady Liu’s graceful and slender figure.

Yang Fan saw the tea house again. He was still in the hallway of the tea house, diagonally opposite to his private room, standing next to him was a tea-serving girl with a look of confusion.

"Sir... Sir..."

She didn’t know how many times she had called out already.

Just as she was about to reach out and poke Yang Fan to see if he was still alive, Yang Fan suddenly turned his head.

The girl was startled, taking a sharp step back and pressing her right hand against her chest.

"Sir, do you... do you have some sort of illness?" she asked softly, "If that’s the case, I suggest you don’t do anything too strenuous, take a rest, or choose something gentler to play with our girls."

Yang Fan smiled, "My health is fine, you can rest assured."

"Please go check if your boss has returned. I have some business to discuss with her."
