Chapter 607
Chapter 607: Chapter 607
Although Yang Fan had pretty much figured things out in his mind, he didn’t say anything on the spot and decided to have another look.
Huo Xiaorou’s tea was ready.
After arriving at her home, the feisty woman seemed to suddenly become gentle, her manners dignified and proper, her smile warm and gentle.
The way she looked now compared with her earlier confrontational demeanor with Yang Fan was like that of two different people.
"Are your parents dealing with some issues?" Yang Fan asked casually, choosing his words carefully.
He didn’t quite understand, but having dealt with such a sinister item for a long time, their health probably wasn’t in the best shape.
"My dad is hospitalized, and my mom is accompanying him at the hospital," Huo Xiaorou explained. "His health has always been quite good. I even take them both for full body check-ups twice a year. Suddenly this year, he’s having some heart problems."
Yang Fan nodded.
It was within expectations.
What puzzled him now was, despite being a Buddha head, why did it give off such an evil vibe?
After taking a couple of sips of tea, Yang Fan put it down.
"Let’s go see the other rooms in your house," Yang Fan suggested.
Huo Xiaorou glanced at the almost untouched tea and said, "There’s no need to rush. Have the tea, eat some pastries. You can look around at leisure afterward; there’s no hurry for this moment."
"No need, I’ll drink it later," Yang Fan stood up and said.
"Then sit for a while longer; I’ll prepare some food for you in a bit," Huo Xiaorou said with a smile. "Although we rub each other the wrong way, like we’re naturally antagonistic, I can’t neglect the polite formalities since you’re a guest in my home."
"That’s not necessary, just keep it casual," Yang Fan replied. "Come on, show me around."
Afterward, Huo Xiaorou led Yang Fan around to see all the rooms in their house.
Huo Xiaorou’s father was truly a collector maniac, really, every sort of thing was brought into the house.
In one of the rooms, Yang Fan even saw a religious statue.
"Your father does this, and none of you object?" Yang Fan asked, puzzled.
Huo Xiaorou said somewhat helplessly, "We can’t persuade him, so we just let him be."
"I can tell from your house that you could form a heavenly court here; it’s lively enough," Yang Fan commented with a shake of his head.
With such an array, it would be strange if there weren’t any problems.
Even without using the Heavenly Eye Technique, he could see that.
A religious statue is not something ordinary households would just have around, right?
It’s common knowledge to most people, yet Huo Xiaorou’s father not only disregarded it, but he also kept bringing home Buddha statues and religious figures. Whether it was something Buddhist monks or Tibetan lamas revered, he collected them all, sheer madness.
"My dad says these are holy statues, they only bring benefits to the house and no harm. My mom was initially not in agreement, but she was eventually persuaded. With both of them having no objections, even if I feel uncomfortable about it, there’s nothing I can do," Huo Xiaorou said with a wry smile.
"You really need to think of a solution. If you clean up your house, your problems should go away," Yang Fan said. "That’s the crux of the issue, and besides, most of the items in your house, except for the deity statue we just saw, seem to have come from dubious sources."
"Let me give you a simple analogy, think of it like they are home fighting each other every day. The religious statue is on the side of justice, and the rest are evil spirits and demons. Without this deity statue, the consequences could be more troublesome. That’s all there is to it, there’s nothing else. It’s up to you to decide what you make of it."
The task was simple, but the setup was really something.
This was the second collector that Yang Fan had met recently, but none of Wei Jin’s items were remotely related to these kinds; they were all various calligraphy and objects. Huo Xiaorou’s dad, on the other hand, only brought home items with a certain ’aura’.
"Is that all?" Huo Xiaorou asked.
She didn’t seem too surprised, as if she had expected it all along.
Yang Fan nodded and said with a smile, "That’s all there is to it; your home is so lively, other stuff has to stay well away."
Those mysterious things wouldn’t even think about causing trouble here; they’d probably take a detour just at the sight of this place.
Huo Xiaorou sighed, "I never thought these items would be the problem. I always felt very uncomfortable with these things at home, but I could never win my dad over. For his hobby, he has countless arguments. I say one thing, and he can nag at me for days."
"You better start thinking of a solution," Yang Fan said. "You want to fix the problem, and I want to earn your two ten thousand silver dollars."
"Can I just sneak them out and throw them away?" Huo Xiaorou seemed eager to try.
"It’s best not to do that. Better take them to a nearby temple," Yang Fan said. "The rest you can discard casually, but remember to find a good place for that deity statue; that’s it."
"I understand," Huo Xiaorou said. "You make earning money seem so easy."
"Today was indeed pretty easy," Yang Fan laughed. "Forget it, just a token of appreciation will do; it seems a bit embarrassing to take much for such a simple task."
"Wow, how merciful!" Huo Xiaorou exclaimed surprised, "Weren’t you the one who said there’s no bargaining?"
"That was specifically for you, but this is just too easy. If I still insisted on two ten thousand, it would feel slightly unjust, like I was taking advantage of you."
Huo Xiaorou gave Yang Fan a thumbs up. "Not easy, finally hearing some decent humanity coming from you. Here’s what we’ll do: you take a break, I’ll call a moving company, and then I’ll treat you to dinner tonight. Or if you want, I can cook for us, order whatever you fancy."
"I don’t really like staying at your place. I’ll accept the dinner invite, but let’s go out to eat," Yang Fan said.
He always felt on pins and needles here.
The sinister prying seemed to be desperately trying to burrow into his body.
"You think my place is too lowly?" Huo Xiaorou asked with a sideways glance.
"It’s not that; it’s your dad’s collection," Yang Fan shook his head and said, "Take your time to pack up; I’ll wait for you in the car with Old Wang. Or set up a table outside for me to rest. That works too."
"Is it that extreme?" Huo Xiaorou asked with furrowed brows.
"It’s hard to explain to you; just hurry up and pack," Yang Fan said.
Huo Xiaorou looked at Yang Fan suspiciously and asked, "Do you guys have a different sense and perspective?"
"You guessed right," Yang Fan smiled, then shouted to Wang Daqiang in the living room, "Old Wang, let’s go sit outside."
"Alright, coming."
Huo Xiaorou didn’t ask further but set up a table under the shade of the trees outside the yard, bringing out all the tea and pastries at once.
"Phew, man, this is finally comfortable," Yang Fan let out a breath of relief.
Inside the yard, he continually felt as if something was squeezing his neck, making it hard to breathe, creating a nauseating sensation that left his head spinning.
Once he stepped outside, the relief was immediate, and even the air seemed instantly much fresher.
