Chapter 435: When Tree Shelters Bones
The Great General Eduart has 10,000 Undead Skeletal Generals whose strength is around Level 5–9 Nether Soul Realm.
Each one of these 10,000 Undead Skeletal Generals has an Undead Legion that consists of 10 Skeletal Commanders whose strength is around Level 5–9 Death Core Realm and 10,000 Skeletal Warriors whose strength is around Level 5–9 Bone Foundation Realm.
With such a powerful army, although Eduart might not be able to destroy the Ancient Heartwood Tree, he could make the tree use all its trump cards and greatly weaken it, saving huge losses in their personal army.
Therefore, the Ghoul Warlords ordered Eduart to start the attack.
"What? Are you crazy?"
After hearing Ethan’s plan, Eduart was very shocked, and he immediately rejected it.
"It is your wish, Sir Eduart. As long as we are under the Green Corpse Emperor, there is no way we can rise to power."
Ethan had already expected this reaction, yet his voice remained calm.
He took a step forward, his voice echoing faintly across the deathly silent chamber.
"You’re saying that I am the hope of the Skeletal Race because I have the potential to become an Undead Emperor..."
Ethan’s voice was calm, yet it carried an underlying sharpness that made Eduart pause.
"Then tell me, Sir Eduart—what are the chances that I can actually become an Undead Emperor while still kneeling beneath the shadow of the Green Corpse Emperor?"
He didn’t wait for an answer and continued to ask one question after another.
"Let’s say I do manage to sneak my way through... avoid his eye, grow strong, ascend quietly, and reach that realm. What then?
Will he smile and congratulate me?
Will there be a celebration? Or will he crush me the moment I reveal my strength?"
The flickering flames in Ethan’s eye sockets grew brighter, fiercer.
"T-this..."
Hearing those words, Eduart was unable to say anything because everything that Ethan said was entirely true.
The Green Corpse Emperor has been an emperor for centuries, if not for a millennium, and when Ethan’s Undead Avatar becomes an Emperor, it won’t be hidden from the Corpse Emperor.
So, when they fought against each other, there was no way a newly ascended Undead Emperor could defeat an Undead Emperor who had ascended centuries ago.
"To change the fate of our Skeletal Race... we need to change the way we live. We need to stop crawling and start walking on a path no one has ever dared to walk. A path that even the Green Corpse Emperor wouldn’t think of."
On the other hand, the flickering flames in Ethan’s eye sockets grew brighter, fiercer, and struck the iron while it was still hot.
"But... your plan," Eduart hesitated, the weight of centuries pressing down on his bones. "You want us to ally with a human... with the Ancient Heartwood Tree? How is that possible? An Undead Race joined forces with a Living Race?"
That’s right!
The crazy plan that Ethan suggested to General Eduart was to team up with the human and the Ancient Heartwood Tree.
"So what if we belong to a completely different race? All we have to do is take the Ancient Heartwood Tree’s help to make the Green Corpse Emperor believe that we have died."
Ethan nodded and answered in a convincing tone.
"Since the Ancient Heartwood Tree could save its full energy, it will agree without hesitation. Once the Corpse Emperor’s army is taken care of, we can return to the [City of Bones] and slowly nurture our strength until I become an Undead Emperor."
"After that, I can become an apostle to an Undead God, and then, we can find a new Secret Realm that has nothing to do with the Corpse Emperor and start to increase the strength of our Skeletal Race."
"At that time, forget about one Undead Emperor, we might have dozens or even hundreds of Undead Emperors."
Of course, there were many things that Ethan didn’t mean, like becoming an apostle to an Undead God or actively invading other realms to turn them into Undead Realms.
Currently, his soul was temporarily residing inside the Undead Avatar, but his main body was a human... a living being. So, he was not interested in turning living beings into Undead Beings.
As for not becoming an apostle of an Undead God... Ethan has no interest as he already believes that his Godly Revival System is connected to a Godly Being.
"Everything sounds good... in words. But do you truly believe a human will side with us?"
Eduart nodded his head; however, he pointed out the major loophole in it.
Although the Ancient Heartwood Tree is the entity that needed to be taken down to gain control over the Greenheart Realm, they know it was the human who was ordering it.
So, they are forming an alliance with a human.
"Even if he agrees, what happens the moment we lower our guard? He will betray us. That’s what humans do."
Hearing that Eduart was pointing out worries from his plan, Ethan became excited because he knew his plan was working.
When he told the plan, Eduart directly rejected it, but now, he was hearing and pointing out the problems that might arise from his plans.
"You speak of betrayal, Sir Eduart. Then let me ask you—within two days, when you lead our Skeletal Race into the Life Region as cannon fodder... won’t we be dying anyway?"
Ethan took another step closer.
"Tell me, what’s the difference between being betrayed... and being knowingly sacrificed?"
The chamber fell into silence again.
"By the way, I have a way to make sure that the human keeps his end of the deal."
Soon, Ethan explained his best and finally convinced Great General Eduart to go with his plan.
"Dark Overlord... I really hope this plan goes as we planned."
Taking a deep breath, Eduart said those words with a mix of both excitement and worry.
If everything goes well, they will rise to power, and if not, they will get destroyed.
"I will go and make preparations for now, and I will inform you when we leave the City of Bones. Until then, cultivate."
After leaving those words, Eduart left the Special Death Chamber to start executing the plan made by Ethan.
"I will be waiting for Sir Eduart until then."
...
Time continued to pass, and in a flash, two days were gone.
The day had finally arrived.
The day General Eduart was ordered to march into the Life Region and launch the first strike on the Ancient Heartwood Tree’s stronghold.
"Eduart, are you... even bringing the 100,000 Skeletal Commanders under your command?"
The three Ghoul Warlords, who had just arrived at the staging point outside the Life Region, were momentarily stunned.
Their lifeless eyes narrowed as they saw an overwhelming tide of Skeletal Commanders lined up in formation, each backed by a small army of one thousand Skeletal Warriors.
The battlefield looked like an ocean of bones.
However, Eduart remained unfazed.
"Since His Majesty wants the Ancient Heartwood Tree destroyed, I will give it everything I’ve got. Damaging it as much as possible is the least I can do."
His tone was respectful, yet hollow.
Without waiting for their reaction, Eduart waved his bony hand and turned away.
With steady steps, he led his forces into the Life Region.
Within just a couple of hours, the endless army of bones reached the outer perimeter of the stronghold guarded by the Ancient Treant Guardian.
"Sir Eduart, please wait here."
Ethan’s Undead Avatar, the Dark Overlord, stepped forward.
"I need to speak with your Hero... the Human who has descended to the Greenheart Realm to protect the Ancient Heartwood Tree and the Greenfolk People. Could you ask him to come out?"
Dark Overlord bowed slightly to the Ancient Treant Guardian, his tone respectful, yet calm.
His voice didn’t carry arrogance, only the sincerity of a strange request from an unexpected visitor.
"Interesting... a Skeletal Being dares to request an audience?"
Before the Ancient Treant Guardian could even respond, a deep voice boomed from within the stronghold.
"If you’re not afraid of death, enter."
The words were sharp, carrying both vigilance and curiosity.
"Dark Overlord, there is no—"
"What is there to fear... when both our fates might be destroyed at any moment?"
His voice cut clean through the Guardian’s hesitation. Without waiting for anyone’s approval, without glancing back, the Dark Overlord stepped into the stronghold.
Eduart instinctively raised a hand, as though to stop him.
But in the end, he clenched his fist and lowered it.
’You’ve already entrusted him with the Skeletal Race’s hope... so, just trust him now.’
Time passed slowly.
The Skeletal Generals stood like statues, their deathly flames flickering with unease. Eduart’s gaze never left the stronghold’s entrance.
Finally, after thirty long minutes, the gates creaked open.
The Dark Overlord emerged without a single scratch on his skeletal body.
"The deal has been made," he spoke, his voice echoing like a cold wind through a crypt.
"We are permitted to rest within the stronghold in exchange for staying out of the war."
For a moment, silence ruled the Skeletal Army.
And then, flames of disbelief and excitement surged in the eyes of every General.
"He really did it... the alliance between Life and Death," one of them muttered.
As for Eduart, he stood frozen.
But in the next breath, his shoulders trembled, not in fear, but in awe.
’As expected of the Abyssal Son... turning the impossible... into reality.’
His eyes locked onto the Dark Overlord, and for the first time in centuries, Eduart felt a sliver of hope that perhaps... just perhaps... their fate could change much sooner than he had anticipated.
However, what the Skeletal Race didn’t know was that the mastermind behind the entire alliance was excitedly clenching his fists.
"I took care of one of the two Undead Races under the Corpse Emperor just like that."
