Chapter 436: The War Begins

The Skeletal Race under the Green Corpse Emperor might be the weakest race; however, for Ethan, it was still a powerful force that would consume a lot of the Ancient Heartwood Tree’s Lifespan.

When the Ancient Treant Guardian was dealing with an Undead Skeletal Legion, he would consume 2–3 years of the Ancient Heartwood Tree’s Lifespan.

Currently, there were 10,000 such Undead Skeletal Legions under Eduart, and not to mention, Eduart was a Great Skeletal General that might not be easy to take down without spending dozens of years of Lifespan.

However, with some words, he was able to stop the Skeletal Race from attacking the Ancient Heartwood Tree.

’Although they won’t be helping me fight against the Green Corpse Emperor, their neutral stance is already a great help to me.’

Ethan was happy with how things turned out with the Skeletal Race.

"Everyone, when I give you the signal, start storing your Undead Beings in the Undead Space."

Ethan... after descending his soul into the Dark Overlord, walked off the stronghold and started executing his plan.

"Yes, Abyssal Son."

By now, even without the title ’Abyssal Son’, Dark Overlord could be considered one of the high-level Skeletal Generals because he had the cultivation of Level-6 Nether Soul Realm.

Moreover, all the Skeletal Generals knew that it had been less than a month since Dark Overlord entered the [City of Bones] with a cultivation of Level-1 Death Core Realm and reached such a high level.

Also, adding the backing of the Great General, Dark Overlord, had naturally become the leader of those 10,000 Undead Generals.

Thus, hearing Dark Overlord’s words, everyone vigorously nodded their skulls.

The [Undead Space] was a racial skill of every Skeletal Being after reaching the Nether Soul Realm, which could be used to store their legion of 10,000 skeletal beings.

Currently, there were 100 million Undead Warriors standing outside the stronghold, and while they might fit inside, they would occupy more than half of the space, which was not an ideal thing to do.

Therefore, Ethan planned to let all 10,000 Undead Generals keep their legions in their Undead Space.

Of course, they had to wait for his signal.

"Arboris, you know what to do now, right?"

At the same time, through the main body, Ethan asked the Ancient Treant Commander with a slight smile on his face.

"Yes, Master Ethan."

The Treant Guardian nodded his head and communicated with the Ancient Heartwood Tree.

A moment later, the entire ground began to tremble.

BOOOOM—!!

Massive, ancient roots burst out from beneath the soil like monstrous serpents.

With thunderous force, they swung through the air and slammed against the ground, shaking the heavens with every impact. Explosive sounds echoed across the battlefield like the pounding of war drums.

"T-this... is that human trying to kill us?!"

Even the Great General Eduart was stunned by the sudden violence.

The other Undead Generals instinctively reached for their weapons, entering into action mode, their eyes flaring with flickers of betrayal.

The sudden movements of the Ancient Heartwood Tree had caught everyone off guard.

The immense roots, now thrashing wildly, looked like they were in the middle of a rampage.

Just as the Undead Legions prepared to counterattack—

"STOP!! What are you doing? Begin storing your Undead Warriors in your Undead Space!"

Dark Overlord’s voice rang out with authority, cutting through the chaos like a blade.

The Undead Generals froze, their hands tightening around their weapons as they turned to look at Dark Overlord with hesitation.

"That’s the signal," he added, his tone calm but commanding. "The one I told you about."

Only then did the truth start to dawn on them.

Even though the Ancient Heartwood Tree’s roots were thrashing violently, not a single Undead Warrior had been harmed.

Despite the terrifying force behind those slams, the roots hadn’t touched a single bone.

"...It’s to make the other two races believe we fought against the Ancient Heartwood Tree and perished in the battle."

Ethan, through his Undead Avatar, explained the plan.

"Is that so?"

Realisation flashed in the hollow sockets of the Undead Generals as their wariness faded, replaced by newfound understanding.

"It’s all an illusion to fool the Spectral Race and the Ghoul Race standing outside the Life Region."

One of them muttered, clutching his chest in silent admiration.

"Is it also the Abyssal Son’s plan?"

"Although it might sound harsh, I don’t think it is. This kind of intelligence... only humans are capable."

"Don’t underestimate our Abyssal Son. His intelligence is no less than that of any human. Don’t forget who came up with the plan to take shelter under the Ancient Heartwood Tree."

"I am sure even the Green Corpse Emperor can’t come up with such a mind-blowing plan."

"Also, without enough intelligence, do you think our Abyssal Son could convince humans to give shelter to us?"

...

Without wasting another second, all 10,000 Undead Generals started storing their legions back into their [Undead Space] as they conversed with one another, sharing their thoughts about the recent turn of events.

In the blink of an eye, the massive army of 100 million skeletal warriors vanished from the battlefield, leaving behind only a few Undead Generals and Eduart himself.

...

Inside the Stronghold,

[The Ancient Heartwood Tree has sacrificed 100 years of its lifespan and created the second Ancient Treant Guardian.]

At that moment, Ethan received a long-expected notification from the system.

From the perspective of the Green Corpse Emperor’s army, stationed just outside the borders of the Life Region, it looked like a chaotic, deadly battle had erupted.

Explosions. Flying roots. Tremors. And the sudden disappearance of the Undead Army.

’It has to look real,’ Ethan reminded himself.

Even though the Ancient Heartwood Tree was swinging its roots, it wouldn’t consume any Lifespan because the tree was using Life Essence for its actions.

That was why he had specifically instructed the Ancient Heartwood Tree to create a new Ancient Treant Guardian, even though it would cost a full 100 years of its lifespan.

Because whenever the Ancient Heartwood Tree loses its lifespan, the Life Region’s percentage drops—and that... was irrefutable evidence of battle.

’Should I create another Ancient Treant Guardian?’

Ethan felt that in his story, 100 years of Lifespan to take care of the Skeletal Army might be too low, and he thought of creating another Ancient Treant Guardian.

’Let’s create another one.’

In the end, Ethan decided to create another.

[The Ancient Heartwood Tree has sacrificed 100 years of its lifespan and created the third Ancient Treant Guardian.]

[Ancient Heartwood Tree’s Current Lifespan: 853.2]

Although Ethan could create another Ancient Treant Guardian, he decided not to create it with the Lifespan.

’Two Ancient Treant Guardians are enough for now.’

With that thought in mind, Ethan went out of the stronghold and invited Eduart and the 10,000 Undead Generals into the stronghold.

......

Outside the Life Region,

The explosive sounds and tremors had come to an end in 30 minutes, meaning the fight between the Ancient Heartwood Tree and the Skeletal Army had finally ended.

"It looks like the Ancient Heartwood Tree has become much stronger than the first time we invaded the Greenheart Realm."

"Eduart... that b*stard is much weaker than we expected."

"Yeah... with such huge numbers, he was only able to reduce the Ancient Heartwood Tree’s Lifespan by only 200 years."

"The entire Skeletal Race is wasting the Corpse Emperor’s resources."

"Forget it... they are just cannon fodder for our wars anyway."

...

The three Ghoul Warlords scoffed at Eduart and his Skeletal Race and claimed that they were wasting the Corpse Emperor’s resources.

"Anyway, it is time for us to attack."

The cold voice of Ghoul Prime echoed across the decaying land, and instantly, the atmosphere shifted.

Soon, the three Ghoul Warlords stood tall, their deathly robes fluttering despite the still air, as they gazed at the vibrant region in front of them.

"Great Spectral Eaden, don’t worry about the Ancient Heartwood Tree."

Ghoul Prime spoke with an eerie calmness, turning slightly toward the cloaked Spectral Being standing behind them. "We will take care of it."

"As for you," he continued, his eyes glowing with violet malice, "your task is to enter the stronghold... and kill the human and the Greenfolk."

"Yes, Ghoul Prime,"

Spectral Eaden’s hollow voice responded without hesitation, the dark mist coiling around his skeletal fingers intensifying as the purple glow in his eye sockets brightened beneath the shadow of his hood.

"Let’s go," Ghoul Prime raised his rotten hands and roared, "Today, we destroy the Ancient Heartwood Tree at any cost."

The moment those words fell, the three Ghoul Warlords, Ghoul Prime, Ghoul Deuce, and Ghoul Trine, along with their army of a million ghouls, stepped into the Life Region.
